Glenn Beck tonight: "I contend that most people are libertarian"
02/26/2010

Posted on 02/26/2010 2:51:42 PM PST by Brugmansian

Beck just said he thinks "I contend that most Americans are libertarians because they want that freedom . . ."

So why don't they vote that way Glenn? Why do we have abortion laws? Why aren't drugs legal? Why do voters reject gay marriage? Why do we have laws regulating banks? Why has every proposal to privatize Social Security much less abolish it been rejected? Why do we have "entangling" foreign relationships? Why do we have trade and immigration laws?

Same here. Contractual agreements aren’t enough. One general principle and “reason” cannot perfect man or society. Culture, not law or lack of law, is what does or does not ensure a successful society.

Well said. I would like to add that big L libertarians have never met a pc shout down mob they do not love. They are not really for individual freedom. They are for liberalism politically correct sameness; obedience to “progressive” group think. No speech or thought outside the amoral box of atheist humanism can be tolerated. That is why Big L’s vote Democrat if they can’t vote for their party.

how accurate and where was the poll without perot running from then? That is mind boggling and sad what Perod did if accurate.

I remember reading that according to polls the perot voters were evenly split but i believe you over what i read considering the liberal slant of most everything you read in print and online.

You won’t get a flame out of me — I agree with you 100%!

He is all about ratings and money and yet people on here fall for it because he outed a few Czars that anyone with a computer could have discovered the same thing.

Learned all I needed to know about him when he was on the radio from Tampa. Thought he was over the edge then, but he is worse now.

Libertarians are anarchists who bathe.

That is the best description I have seen yet -- that one is a keeper. Rules and laws don't apply to them!

The only way to outlaw these problems on the Federal level is by amending the Constitution. The States and cities can do so at will as long as it is Constitutional.

You’re both right!

The problem with pure libertarians is precisely the same one the leftists have- they ignore or neglect to take into accout, human nature.

Without a skeleton, the muscles have nothing to support them. Utter mush.

Try to relax Brugsy, Glenn is not referring to the Libertarian PARTY or their platform but is using the term in it's more common application as a general attitude of 'live and let live'

The Libertarian PARTY is as out of touch as is the Republican PARTY and we'll soon be seeing the Republicans achieving similar results if they don't shift more toward the conservative / libertarian philosophies.

Glenn is correct

You would probably be labeled as a ‘conservative libertarian’ by that Nolan quiz...probably about where I would fall.

So have you taken it?

Give it a try. You might be amazed.

And, by all means, be sure and read the FAQ, regardless of how you score on the quiz.

The "left-right" model is something that I've never yet heard Glenn Beck or any other national talk-show host discuss to date. They really need to before the election in November.

But he didn't say that, did he? I don't believe that is the more common application either. Most people associate libertarian with Ayn Rand and/or the Libertarian party and all that association entails. He could have said "live and let live" if that is what he meant.

The correct statement to make would be most Americans are republican and then explain the difference between small "r" republicans which includes Democrats and Republicans and the Republican party.

Very well said!

Most of the problem is that they want to take over and mold Conservative Republicans to fit their agenda when almost all Conservative Republicans I know are very pro-military and support the War on Terror. In fact, most of us have been disgusted that this Administration took away the words War on Terror. We are NOT isolationists. The day the conservative movement becomes isolationists is the day they lose me and a lot of people like me.

Only as often as Kerry told us he served in Viet Nam.

He is wrong. A majority of Americans are conservatives, not libtardtarians. There is a big difference.

Actually, that's exactly what he said, "...that most people are libertarian" (note that absence of the word "party"

It's your active imagination (normally a good thing) that leaps to add the word "party" and that instantly makes the deft association with Ayn Rand :-)

Just relax, it's going to be all right. And yes, most people ARE in fact libertarian in this sense of the word, but no... most Americans are NOT Republican, even if you add the small and large "R" together.

I for one, will never again consider myself a Republican, not after they gave us that traitorous bastard John McCain who seems to still curry favor with the party leadership.

oh and by the way, Ayn Rand and the movement she inspired is normally referred to as Objectivism not libertarian. While many people who consider themselves libertarian do enjoy the musings of Ayn Rand, there is no direct connection between Rand and the Libertarian party.

There is a decided move toward democracy on the left but even most Democrats still believe in a republican form of government. I for one, will never again consider myself a Republican, not after they gave us that traitorous bastard John McCain who seems to still curry favor with the party leadership.

Makes as much sense as Obama not considering himself a Democrat because JFK stood for everything he is against. John McCain is not the party. The leadership is not the party. The leadership now won't even be the leadership next year and it isn't what it was in the summer of 2008 either.

Yes, I believe most everyone is aware of the nomenclature. Mostly the only people I hear make the distinction are Ojectivists however. Term just denotes a higher level of arrogance in my opinion.
