Every time I walk through the mall I feel this stab of pain in my gut. It also happens in Target, Wal-Mart, the doctors office, the grocery store; it even happens in church. I dont need medication for this pain. Its not a disease its grief. Im mourning the death of modesty.
Last week I read the most perfect definition of modesty on the website for the Archdiocese of Washington. Msgr. Charles Pope wrote that modesty is reverence for mystery. I cant imagine a better way to define it. And sadly, in our culture, the mystery is GONE. And with it has gone all reverence, dignity, and respect.
Im just so sick of seeing women on display everywhere I go. Its inescapable and its gotten trashy. I feel sorry for men today at least the men who are attempting to be gentlemen. Men are visual creatures by design, and now the poor guys can hardly raise their eyes off their shoes without being confronted by half-naked women theyre then not supposed to look at. Its more than inconsiderate; its irresponsible and disrespectful.

Samuel Adams "It is high Time for the people of this country to declare, whether they will be freemen or slaves? It is an important question which ought to be decided. It concerns us more that anything in this life. The Salvation of our souls is interested in this event. For wherever tyranny is established immorality of every kind comes in like a torrent. It is in the interest of tyrants to reduce the people to ignorance and vice. For they cannot live in a country where virtue and knowledge prevail. The religion and public liberty of a people are intimately connected; their interests are interwoven, they cannot subsist separately; therefore they rise and fall together. For this reason, it is always observable, that those who are combined to destroy the people's liberties, practice every art to poison their morals. How greatly then does it concern us, at all events, to put a stop to the progress of tyranny." --
Wow. Just... Wow.
>>>Don’t worry, if what I’ve heard about the 1970s is true, things are already improving.<<<
I was a teenager and young adult in that era, and to say that it resembled an old-fashioned Roman orgy isn’t far from the truth. Glad I managed to get out without any STDs and with only a tinge of regret.
Damn. Now I have to wash my eyes out....with bleach!
Modesty died a loooong tme ago.
how much was the doctor’s bill to fix your eyes after?
Hough is usually pronounced Huff. I have known people who spelled their names that way.
Too subtle for this lowly one.
I thought it was a pastor casting out the tobacco demon.
"Huff High School" is not a terrific concept, either!
“Why does anyone pay attention to these people?”
Well, the father of lies is clearly a very skilled liar.
Perhaps so, but these parents weren’t objecting to Huff High I can assure you.
Thanks for the book suggestion.
Great poster! LOL :)
Are kids still huffing? I thought all these offspring of late baby boomers are just smoking pot with their parents. :D
Agreed. Preferably, my bedroom.
The Dean of Furman University stands out in the field at the start of a football game chanting FU! FU! FU!
I don’t know, actually. Bill says none of his friends inhales solvents. He seems to be suggesting that some smoke pot, though.
I think it’s a German pronunciation from the early Moravian influence.
