When I get a chance to go to daily morning Mass (when I have a day off from school) he invites a group of us to have coffee with him. He has had concerns about Obama and his faith for a long time.

The more I analyze political history, I've learned that yes: people who speak well on issues, people who get A's on their Phd level dissertations on economic and political theory--are GREAT when it comes to putting their thoughts on paper and getting to express their ideas in settings like this Professor Obama-initiated summit. They make good legislators as well.

However, merely being eloquent in this or that policy does not reflect on whether that person can make an effective *EXECUTIVE.* It does not make one a LEADER. It does not reflect on one's ability to be Commander in Chief.

Being President and being a policy-wonk who happens to be in Congress are two different things.

Despite how well thought out someone's ideas may sound and how many "yays" or "nays" they can vote--that does not mean they will be able to effectively put their ideas into action and run a country and forge a strong cabinet. It does not mean they have the shrewdness, intuition into people's motives/pscyhology, and even that pinch of charm necessary to forge alliances and handle diplomatic relations.

Communication savvy is vital as well, and savvy isn't determined by how well you can talk with political geeks. It's how well you can communicate with the greater public and culture. VOTERS must feel that they can trust and connect with you. You can't expect to motivate and win over the hearts and minds of the majority of voters merely by treating them like law school professors.
