Pelosi aide says Dems have a legislative "trick" to pass Obamacare; So why have a summit?
Washington Examiner ^ | 02/10/10 | Mark Tapscott

Posted on 02/10/2010 3:19:05 PM PST by Mrs. Don-o

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's senior health care advisor has told Congress Daily that congressional Democratic leaders have settled on a strategy they believe will allow them to make changes in both Senate and House Obamacare bills, then send a single, revised version to President Obama for signature.

Congress Daily is a subscription-only publication, but LifeNews.com has these details:

"In comments reported by Congress Daily, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s top health care aide Wendell Primus admitted top Democrats have already decided on the strategy to pass the Senate's pro-abortion, government-run health care bill.

"Primus explained that the Senate will use the controversial reconciliation strategy that will have the House approve the Senate bill and both the House and Senate okaying changes to the bill that the Senate will sign off on by preventing Republicans from filibustering.

“'The trick in all of this is that the president would have to sign the Senate bill first, then the reconciliation bill second, and the reconciliation bill would trump the Senate bill,' Primus said at the National Health Policy Conference hosted by Academy Health and Health Affairs.

“'There's a certain skill, there's a trick, but I think we'll get it done,' he said."

The comments from Primus raise an obvious question: Since it is inconveible that Democratic congressional leaders are moving in this direction without the knowledge of the White House, why call a health care summit and challenge congressional Republicans to come with their best ideas when the plan is already in place to use legislative trickery to pass Obamacare?

The most logical answer would seem to be that the summit is part and parcel of a White House/congressional Democratic strategy to distract attention from what is about to happen on the Hill. It's the classic magician's trick of distracting you with the left hand while the right hand does the "trick."

Thanks for the ping!

well, since our Pubbies also suffer from the same delusions of power as the Dems, I suggest the Tea Party issue a rather strongly worded statement on behalf of it’s members.

If this ‘summit’ goes forward, it should be hijacked to discuss punative legislative action to take against health insurers such as BlueCross/BlueShield for raising their individual policy rates in California by 30% on a whim and MEGA raising them by 20% (blackmail to get the vote for dems? since we can be reasonably assured BC/BS will be one of the ‘government approved’ policyissuers?)

A trick? A trick? The Dems want to pass this huge monstrosity by means of a trick? Bring it on, Dems. We will work to ensure not only a Congressional change in power, but an impeachment to boot. Obama's already been making friends on the SCOTUS.

The back and forth by GOP leaders as to this absurd summit is deliberate to keep the White House off-balance.

Ultimately, the GOP is winning the PR battle and they should not reject an invitation from the President of the United States. The public is with the GOP, not BO, and if they are afraid to articulate their principles, then they shouldn’t be ready to be in the majority in 2011.

Every day that these stupid RATS whine and talk and bellow about health care gets us closer to November and electoral disaster for the RATS. They are in the process of imploding; the whole RAT majority is going thru a slow-motion train wreck.

The GOP must have on-camera the stacked 3,000 page bills from both House and Senate as a visual for any Republican speaking at this “summit.” Showcase this legislative monstrosity and ridicule it.

Zero’s call for another televised “debate” with Republicans is all show - serious work isn’t done by politicians in front of cameras.

Zero will lecture Republicans as being heartless, obstructing the healthcare needs of millions of Americans. Republicans need to say that Zero is obstructing the WILL of the people - that a clear majority of Americans doesn’t want this bill, for one reason or another, and it’s pure arrogance to thrust it on them!

Otherwise, let them pass it. The will of the people will be deafening.

I agree with posters who suggest that the GOP should call the RATS bluff; as noted, the RATS likely don’t have the votes in the House to pass anything. It’s now every RAT for himself. The Senate is more dicey if they go with reconciliation. It’s political suicide for the RATS but they might decide it’s worth the cost to put us on a road to ruin.

Every day that goes by with no health care bill is a good day, especially if the RATS and their media handmaidens continue to talk about it while unemployment grows.

This much is absolutely clear: the GOP is not going to let the RATS off the hook in an election year by giving them any cover for either of these disastrous bills.

No, we can’t. Once it is law, we would need 60 votes in the Senate to repeal it. That is what the Rats are counting on. They are going kamikaze figuring that once this is passed, they are over the hump and the country is irreversibly on the path to socialism.

Does not matter if we do not have enough votes to repeal it, simply defund it.

That could be true and would be a bigger trick by nobama on his followers than a trick on us.

I was referring to the Reconciliation process itself, I have heard that it is to soon expire and would require 60 Senate votes to re-enact it, so the dems may have a rapidly shrinking window anyway. I beleive it dies this April, but could be way wrong.

I think they underestimate the disgust many in this country have for them, and I think many MORE can be convinced to vote them out in November.

The word is that the House held some votes in reserve when Obamacare was passed. Some vulnerable Rats were allowed to vote no. That is not unusual for controversial legislation.

That's definite.

At least this can start to flush out those pseudo-conservative Dems.

This is a GREAT song & video. Brought many tears to my eyes! We have the greatest country in the history of civilization for the last 230 or so years, and the socialist demoRAT bastards, led by the chief commie pig bastard 0bozo, want to destroy it, in their pursuit of failed socialist policies & ideology.

If the demoRAT bastards pull this off and slam this 0bozoDeathCare monstrosity down the throats of the American people, it will be time to go to war against the demoRATs. Patriots on one side, socialist demoRAT pigs on the other side. Per 0bozo the commie pig....."I welcome that fight".

“So go ahead and pass it, Dems, and stop yakking about it.

We’ll handle it in November.”

If they pass the bill there is no way republicans could win a large enough majority to repeal the bill, not over Obama’s veto.

By the time we get a president that wont veto the repeal and the chance of a large enough majority to repeal the health-care bill. The bill will already have taken effect.

Our only option will be a nullification fight in our States.

True, but congress could refuse to fund it.
