Pelosi aide says Dems have a legislative "trick" to pass Obamacare; So why have a summit?
Washington Examiner ^ | 02/10/10 | Mark Tapscott

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's senior health care advisor has told Congress Daily that congressional Democratic leaders have settled on a strategy they believe will allow them to make changes in both Senate and House Obamacare bills, then send a single, revised version to President Obama for signature.

Congress Daily is a subscription-only publication, but LifeNews.com has these details:

"In comments reported by Congress Daily, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s top health care aide Wendell Primus admitted top Democrats have already decided on the strategy to pass the Senate's pro-abortion, government-run health care bill.

"Primus explained that the Senate will use the controversial reconciliation strategy that will have the House approve the Senate bill and both the House and Senate okaying changes to the bill that the Senate will sign off on by preventing Republicans from filibustering.

“'The trick in all of this is that the president would have to sign the Senate bill first, then the reconciliation bill second, and the reconciliation bill would trump the Senate bill,' Primus said at the National Health Policy Conference hosted by Academy Health and Health Affairs.

“'There's a certain skill, there's a trick, but I think we'll get it done,' he said."

The comments from Primus raise an obvious question: Since it is inconveible that Democratic congressional leaders are moving in this direction without the knowledge of the White House, why call a health care summit and challenge congressional Republicans to come with their best ideas when the plan is already in place to use legislative trickery to pass Obamacare?

The most logical answer would seem to be that the summit is part and parcel of a White House/congressional Democratic strategy to distract attention from what is about to happen on the Hill. It's the classic magician's trick of distracting you with the left hand while the right hand does the "trick."

It could be that Obama wants to hold the photo op meeting to portray the Reps as obstructionists leaving the Dems their only choice, the nuclear option, i.e., reconciliation. Then the Dems could invite the Reps to join in the amendment process to perfect the passed legislation.

This Bipartisan/Summit crap is like a glass full of Arsenic. Even if you dilute it (ie compromise) it is still poison

I agree with your analysis. And don’t forget that the reconciliation process is just the first stage. The House will then start amending the passed legislation to placate their constituencies. The Reps will then be faced with a fait acompli and must choose whether to participate in the amendment process.

Republicans say no to healthcare summit...Democrats say they HAVE TO go nuclear.

That's a very perceptive point ... and one of the dangers of boycotting the meeting.

The Dim Rats have a choice. Kill the bill and start over in a TRUE, above board, honest fashion. That would be reasonable if they were interested in healthcare, per se. But they are not. This entire fiasco is about the socialist takeover of America and its citizens and the destruction of their rights under the Constitution. Healthcare, my arse.

You say you want a revolution....well you know we all want to change the world....

The democrat criminals in the US Congress, Obama and the White House cadre don’t seem to understand that they are playing with fire doing this. We have the guns, we have the numbers, we have right on our side.

Yeah, send a couple of conservative members of the financial services committee, one each to represent the House and Senate GOP caucuses.

Some vulnerable Rats were allowed to vote no.

And why would they not be vunerable now?

It’s all down to Axelrod’s political analysis. He’s their Karl Rove. If they follow his advice, they pull the trigger.

I think it will come down to the judgment of a few Rat senators, whether they agree with Axelrod.

As for House Rats who lose their seats, they will be given lucrative positions at Fannie or Freddie or SEIU or an ambassadorship or some such thing.

Somebody explain to me how this could happen.

Easy -- pork. You think the House of all places can't buy off a few representatives with pork? They can, easily, and will.

Unless the Republicans in congress have some tricks up their sleeve... it's game over. Say goodbye to healthcare as we know it.

Dick Morris described this weeks ago. Supposedly 52 Dem Senators have signed a letter promising House Dems that if they pass the Senate bill as is, then the President signs it; then, under budget reconciliation rules, the Dem Senators have promised to do away with provisions the House doesn’t like, such as tax on Union “Cadillac” plans. I’m not sure how it gets past Stupak, since these wink and nod provisions would be tailored to appeal to the leftist House members.
