Breitbart Busts Birther at Tea Party Confab

by Charles Cooper
Attending the Tea Party Convention in Nashville this weekend, The Washington Independent's always-excellent David Weigel recounts an extraordinary hallway confrontation between online publisher Andrew Breitbart and WorldNetDaily Editor-in-Chief Joseph Farah over the question of President Obama's citizenship.

*snip*

"Prove your case."

"I should prove, what, a birth certificate that may or may not exist?" Farah had gotten irritated. "That’s ridiculous. You don’t even understand the fundamental tenets of what journalism is about, Andrew. It’s not about proving things. It’s about asking questions and seeking truth."

Breitbart tensed up after that insult. "Right."

"I know you’re not a journalist, so that’s fine. But don’t diminish people who’ve been doing this for 35 years."

"So you’re going to go on record saying that I’m not a journalist?"

"Are you? I’ve never heard you claim to be. Are you?"

"I’ll let it be answered by you."

"Well, I knew [Matt]Drudge didn’t consider himself a journalist, so I assumed that you were. … I don’t know, I’m not trying to insult you."

"You did."

The problem with Joseph Farah and WND isn’t that they’re questioning the Article II, Section I qualifications of Obama, it’s that they aren’t asking the right question - which citizenships did you have when you were born, and if they were dual - British (Kenyan)/American - how can you qualify under the USC?

Then the matter of whether he was born in HI becomes a subpoint, under the larger issue.

We all know that bammy has lied about his entire past. It wouldn’t shock me if he were born in Kenya or Hawaii...but who cares, it’s not that main issue.

He’s hiding ALL of this also:
The List:
1 Certified copy of original birth certificate
2 Columbia University transcripts
3 Columbia thesis paper
4 Campaign donor analysis requested by 7 major watchdog groups
5 Harvard University transcripts
6 Illinois State Senate records
7 Illinois State Senate schedule
8 Law practice client list and billing records/summary
9 Locations and names of all half-siblings and step-mothers
10 Medical records (only the one page summary released so far)
11 Occidental College Transcripts
12 Parent’s marriage Certificate
13 Record of baptism
14 Selective Service registration records
15 Schedules for trips outside of the United States before 2007
16 Passport records for all passports
17 Scholarly articles
18 Access to his grandmother in Kenya
19 List of all campaign workers that are lobbyists
20 Punahou grade school records

Anyhow, Farah and Breitbart could quit fighting if they both just asked the larger question - Was Obama a dual citizen (even if born in HI) and what do our laws and the USC tell us about that?

Of course sadly 50% of this nation could care less about what the USC says about anything...

That’s part of the huge dilemma in this nation. We need to educate and recapture the next generation, as patriots and Constitutionalists.

If Obama had submitted a job application with me, and was unable to establish his credentials I’d reject him immediately.

“I believe the only claims being made by “birthers” is that obama refuses to provide a copy of his BC and any documentation from Occidental, Columbia, Harvard. There’s nothing to dispute about that.”

Since the RATS and the RAT press have decided to make being a birther indicative of being in the loonie bin, we just need to turn the tables on them and ask them to defend their anti-Constitutional law position that you shouldn’t have to defend your qualifications for POTUS. And the focus should be on Natural Born Citizenship and not Hawaii - to take away their little pet, knee jerk issue.

If they want to argue against the USC, now that’s truly loonie bin time. Nothing like the RATS accusing us of being the loons, when they really are.

But let’s take the wind out of their tiny, little sails, by being wise about this...

Argue NBC and the USC and get off of HI...(I know it’s tough as we’ve simply asked them about the birth certificate.) So recast this - go a few steps higher - and watch the silly RATS scramble..

the Clintons would have let the rest of us know what it was.

They would have let you know if they knew before Obama locked up the nomination.

That’s pretty good, chopperman. I’ve been searching for the definition of “natural born”...any definition, that has some legal and logical heft.

There are not that many clear cut cases I can hang my hat on, but yours is pretty clear.

While I have some skepticm with regard to the application, at least it provides another stepping stone in my research.

Thanks for posting it.

Yep. It’s just not a long-term issue. Obama may be voted out of office by 2013 — and who knows, maybe better legislation requiring better birth documents for presidential candidates will be on the books by then.

Finding that he is not eligible is not going to resolve our problem of today, which is to keep him from passing any more Marxist legislation and appointing Marxists to high office.

His ineligibility goes to the very core of this Constitutional crisis. It's ludicrous to suggest the American people can't focus on two issues simultaneously. We have already forced the bottleneck of several socialist bills while the outcry for BO's/BS's birth certificate grows.

So it is my opinion, obviously not agreed to here, that proving him to be not eligible should be done quietly and without tying the conservative movement to it because that distracts from the immediate goal.

I couldn't disagree more. The Constitution is based on Conservative values. it is the reason we have a conservative ideology in this country. Pushing the Constitution aside is to push conservatism aside and thereby defeat the very purpose of advancing the conservative cause. Your thinking as based on the false premise focusing on a Constitutional crisis is somehow a hindrance. Failing to make it the paramount issue will make all other issues irrelevant. This is not a matter that can be temporarily swept under the rug. Our founding fathers paid a far greater sacrifice to implement it than we will to preserve the Constitution.

It also insulates the conservative movement from looking like idiots in case he really is eligible or more likely, in the event that it is not possible to prove that he is ineligible.

We don’t want to look like Prince Charles and the GW nut cases.

The Conservative movement does not need to be insulated! That is the same type of thinking that has caused the OP(formerly the GOP) to incrementally go down the socialist path over the years. On the contrary, c it is time for conservatives to be more assertive by defending the Constitution! It is absolutely astounding how you and others actually feel a sense of embarrassment and associate upholding the Constitution as being idiotic by demanding first and foremost BO/BS obey the very document he is trying to destroy in as little time as possible! This issue cannot wait in the background. The degree of complxity should not be a deterrent. It must be addressed now!!!!

REALITY: The ship B.O.B.C. sailed years ago, and you’re just dog-paddling in its wake...while he laughs at you from the fantail.

Then you are giving up on the Constitution and will allow a socialist/communist who seek its destruction to run you life. Speak for yourself. Your defeatist attitude only empowers those who want to replace our Democratic Republic with socialism. Those demanding BO/BS obey the Constitution is growing.

Yep, or it might say that his father was Frank Marshall Davis.

My only reply to you is: Don’t forget O. J.

You are so positive that you are going to save the Constitution by proving Obummer, the Marxist now posing as a Fascist, is not eligible.

Remember that what you knew had nothing to do with the outcome of the O. J. case.

And there are thousands of similar cases every year.

We have two problems. It is a lot smarter to treat them as two entirely separate issues..

“You are either all in or all out. If your gonna waffle on the very core of your movement then you might end up with a name like “TINO” (tea partyer in name only)!”

Wow.

If I were a liberal intent on neutralizing the tea party movement, what you’re trying to say would be a sure-fire way to do it. Postulating that a foundational requirement to be REAL tea-party member is to embrace the birther issue is TOXIC.

I would not be surprised to find out that many who are most vocal about keeping this issue alive are Democrat operatives. THEY are the only ones who are benefitting from the Birth Certificate issue continuing to poison the political landscape.

Their only plan for stemming the tide of conservatism: Divide, Discourage, Deflect, Distract. Keeping the birth certificate alive satisfies all of these. I’m not falling for it.

Breitbart made an ass of himself in that exchange. lol

That is a laughable remark, worth a big LOL!

Your front man Farah stumbled around and could only attack Andrew about if he was a journalist or not.

Farah bragged about his years as a journalist, and has been outed as a marginal fringe semi-wacko for years.

Breitbart had it right when he said this:

"You don’t recognize it as a fundamentally controversial issue that forces a unified group of people to have to break into different parts? It is a schism of the highest order."
Breitbart make Joe look like a little kid.

“Breitbart is correct; it is not a winning issue.”

“If the goal is to defeat Hussein’s agenda, prattling on and on about his birth certificate is not going to move the electorate in that direction.”

Seems like your name Recovering Democrat is apt. Get back to us when you have “recovered.” The Democrats have been evil since Truman who was probably the last good Democrat. This was in the late 1940s.

OJ? I couldn't care less about OJ! You're comparing a murder tril on the same level as a Constitutional crisis makes your position all the more ludicrous.

We have two problems. It is a lot smarter to treat them as two entirely separate issues..

Your method puts the Constitutional crisis on the back burner. The Constitution will be eviscerated by the time you are ready to address it.

The problem with the entire birther arguement is the lack of a smoking gun.

I happen to believe that it is highly likely Obama was NOT born in Hawaii -- for a lot of reasons.

The only thing we can say definitely is that Obama is not forthcoming with the American people by hiding his birth certificate. (The Annenberg document is clearly a fake.)

I don’t think McCain and Hillary blew it by not pursuing the birth certificte issue during the campaign. I think pressure was brought to bear and they folded. We are now living in a Thugocracy, and our so called leaders, and the media, are craven cowards. They might get a surprise in the future to find “we, the people” not so much.

I wish more people here got what you are saying.

If it were a winning issue, the election would have been a lot different.

There are tons of other things about Obama’s agenda that already resonate negatively with conservative and independent voters.

Would those "some" include the framers of the Constitution?

To many of those framers, a Kenyan father would make the off spring property.
