Bill Gates has made his scholarship fund off limits to white teenagers. The Gates Millennium Scholarship fund is financed by a $1 Billion endowment Bill Gates made in 1999. The fund explicitly denies eligibility to white students.
Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they: Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian and Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American;"

There are 50 predominately black colleges in the United States and nearly all offer “white only scholarships”. They are looking for diversity on the campus. So there you go.

To: HiTech RedNeck Excuse me, the software was the operating system for the first IBM pcs. It was not written by Gates he bought it. Hi mommy was on a charity board with the president of IBM and established the connection. His daddy, a corporate lawyer wrote the contract so Microsoft would own the code, not IBM. Gates is smart. He is also very arrogant. But, he did not write the operating system that launched Microsoft. 70 posted on 02/04/2010 9:59:33 PM PST by gleneagle M. You are right that he's not a coding wizard, but he was a hard-knuckled business genius. As I recall he wrote a very early simple BASIC --maybe he didn't do it himself. Why IBM gave Gates a monopoly on DOS seems a mystery--the old line IBM wouldn't have done that, but the skunk-works group who put together the original IBM PC was just trying to slap together something to compete with Apple and the other early micro makers, and weren't thinking too many steps into the future. Gates was. Gates had a lot of ego invested in MS-BASIC. I purchased the original 128 Macintosh computer, Apple had developed a very nice BASIC for it but Gates told Jobs that if Apple released it MicroSoft would not release any software for the Mac, so Macintosh BASIC never shipped. Instead I had a useless, worthless MS-BASIC interpreter. I was very pissed.

What’s a “real” scholarship?
My daughter went to a private Christian college, and had zero student loans because of her academic and other grants and scholarships, the largest was $2,000. I would say 90% were less than $500.

Gates millenium scholarship is for minorities only. The more prestigious Gates Cambridge scholarship is open to anyone. It’s a reasonable system.

Frankly, how Bill and Melinda Gates choose to spend their money isn’t any of my or your business. They are both left leaning uberCapitalists.

“Gates millenium scholarship is for minorities only.”
Yes, that why we’re having this discussion.
“Its a reasonable system.”
Would it be just as reasonable had Blacks been specifically barred from qualifying?

Look he sets scholarships for underprivileged minorities and everyone. The one only for underprivileged minorities is the less prestigious of the two. Are you seriously arguing that private individuals don’t have the right to spend their money as they please? That’s a very poorly reasoned stance.
To: Conservativism
I’ll ask again since you obviously missed it before.
