Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams is set to undergo heart surgery this week in the United States.
CBC News confirmed Monday that Williams, 60, left the province earlier in the day and will have surgery later in the week.
The premier's office provided few details, beyond confirming that he would have heart surgery and saying that it was not necessarily a routine procedure.
Deputy Premier Kathy Dunderdale is scheduled to hold a news conference Tuesday morning.
She's expected to provide more details about Williams's condition, as well as how the provincial government will function during his absence.
CBC reporter David Cochrane said Williams appeared to be in good health recently. He described the premier as "fairly active," playing pick-up hockey at least once a week when work permits.
This is nothing new — way back when I was on a tour of Moscow and (then) Leningrad, we saw the buildings within the Kremlin walls where the dear leaders went for special medical treatments and to shop for ‘western’ goods, etc.
At that time, 1977, times were REALLY tough for average citizens and the big dept. store, GUM, looked worse than a swap meet and smelled like one giant urinal.
Now it’s been all gussied up and Russians have access to whatever they want — but you can bet ‘leaders’ will still leave the country for crucial medical treatments by doctors in the west.
In 1977 it was well known that Russian doctors earned the same ‘salary’ as did taxi drivers! How’s that for equality!
In Canada, good health care is not for the `little people`.
Special waivers are needed to pay for private care in the USA. The crooked socialist ruling class obviously gets these waivers, not the enslaved taxpayers of Canada.
Elites will always get the health care they require.
The hospital and doctors should waive the fees in exchange for PR from him as to why he bypassed the Canadian system.

No need. This is extremely common these days.
Put the puck in the net, eh?
priceless.... hypocrisy is thy name... bwhahahahahaha... just priceless.
An oxymoron.

“Crooked democrats/socialists will NEVER permit themselves of their loved ones be treated with the same third rate medical care they coerce on the proletariat.”
Heh. I’m willing to trade Canada—our President to anywhere he wishes in Canada for medical treatment, in exchange for the Premier being treated here.
A sent this link to a liberal friend of mine, and she wrote back:
“Don’t the members of Congress get their health insurance through the Federal Employees Health Plan that insures 8.5 million federal employees and dependents? It’s certainly a great health plan by the standards of non federal employees options, but it isn’t “just” for Congress.
Maybe we should do away entirely with employer sponsored health insurance. I don’t think many people have a good idea what their health insurance costs their employer and what it would cost them to obtain it on their own. Hence, a false sense of security about our current largely employer sponsored system.”
Yes -
On the one hand, a person has the right to spend their own money on an expensive treatment. IF, however, Canadian insurance is paying for Canadians to come here, they should a) be charged full price and b) NOT be choosing who gets to come here based on social standing, i.e., being high in government, but solely based on medical need. Canadians should be in an uproar if the Premier went to the head of the line.
Eventually, as our system will continually improve it’s capabilities and theirs will denigrate even more, they’ll become very hooked on our services and their system will become obsolete.
It’s the picking and choosing that’s the bad part in any system. We do have indigent care available here, but no one wants to talk about it now, because they want Federal (from our taxes) dollars to pay for insurance for them, so they can pay a bigger bill than Fed/State reimbursement pays for their actual costs now. Hey, everybody wants this new system, insurer, medical professional, device manufacturer, pharmaceutical, EXCEPT the taxpayer, who will foot the insurance premium bill. If the medical industry had any sense, they’d think more long term and continue to provide care to indigent using the current system, as it will come back to bite them when the gov’t runs out of money to pay for how much they want to bill. The patients (again, us!) would really suffer then, since the legal perspective and popular opinion is being prepared now to accept this down the road.
Why isn’t this sc*mbag partaking of the wonderful health-care they have in Canada? It is after all a modern country that should be able have the most modern facilities. But we know the answer don’t we? They have wonderful socialized medicine for the masses. The elites? Thy come here. Question where will Obama and his minions go after they socialize our medicine and screw it up like the Canadians? Cuba?
Thanks for your thoughtful post.
A) Congress has a five star hospital IN THE CAPITOL BUILDING feet away from their offices, plus instant access to state of the art High tech at Bethesda Naval and Walter Reid Hospitals.
You know, all the care and access Obama/Reid/Pelosi want to deny you and your family.
B)Medical Savings Accounts and Catastropphic care insurance are a market solution, but anathema to socialist thugs.
They will will continue to use their parallel private system for the Ruling Socialist Elite.
PING!
