The conservative activist accused this week in a plot to tamper with telephones in the office of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) admitted to the scheme Friday....
Federal prosecutors allege that James O'Keefe helped carry out a plot in which two friends impersonated telephone repairmen to get access to Landrieu's office in downtown New Orleans. O'Keefe, 25, waited inside the office and used his cellphone to record his two colleagues saying that the senator's phone was not receiving calls, according to charges unsealed Tuesday....
If convicted, O'Keefe could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. Under a judge's order, he is required to reside with his parents in New Jersey pending future court hearings.

The article is written by Carol D. Leonnig. She has a history of getting things factually wrong about O’Keefe.
I’m surprised the Post is letting her cover this story given her history. Oh, wait, its the Post - I’m not surprised.
That is so poorly written it is hard to know exactly what it means. It sounds like O'Keefe was standing somewhere near Landrieu's phone while his friends called Landrieu's number so he could see if it rang or not.
If he’s convicted of a “plot” to get in to see if her phones were working, that’s got to carry some pretty hefty penalties, huh? Absolutely heinous. Imagine if he’d “broken into” the Congressional rest rooms to find out whether the toilets flushed or not!
Meanwhile, the New Black Panther goons walk the streets with impunity!
Only lobbyists’ calls get through.
They’re authorized ~ “concern for property” ~ part of the job description.
Hell, the president on down, does that every day...!
Good one. ;-0
Judging from his thread posting history, "steve-b" also appears to be the resident gay-rights issues sympathy troll on FR.

Hmmmm...Cruel and unusual punishment?
No reflection on his parents..just NJ...
Cheers!
It was the landrieu people who had tampered with the phones. Is it tampering if you do it to your own phones?
He’s a lefty dirtbag but not all that stealthy.
What about the black panthers that were intimidating the voters at the polling place?
charged with entering federal property on false pretenses....Geees, Senator Bob Casey could be up for 3,000 years if this charge is real.
Convicted of what? Impersonating a phone company tech? If nobody asked to see any ID, and just let them into the phone closet, they were given implicit consent.
Not that they really need consent to look at phone equipment in this case. This is the office of a public servant, and if citizens suspect their servant is misdirecting phone calls from citizens, that's not being a good servant.
I hope these guys lawyer-up, and counter-sue for malicious prosecution. This stunt doesn't even rise to the occasion of Rahm Emmanuel and his dead fish in Chicago. Just some merry pranksters.
Of course this report is a collection of half truths and outright lies.
Sounds like “punishment by process”; i.e., “we know you’ll be acquited, but we plan to cost you as much grief and money as possible before that happens.”
Hang tough, J.O’K.
PING
So he’s charged with entering a Federal office under false pretense?
Hell, I can think of thousands of federal workers who do this everyday. And they get paid for it.
