FC, there are some R here in AZ, that can only see what JMc has done and how he sacrificed. For that I salute him.

But like JD said it is time for him to come home.

Thanks for the laugh........

It doesn’t appear he was born on a US military base

Correct me if I am wrong but that is now a moot issue because the Constitution doesn't impose a natural-born citizen requirement on a U.S. Senator. Correct?

Rush and Sean H are in JD’s corner. He has had a radio show for the last 3 years and he will lots of support with his stand against amnesty.

I know they will be good in bringing in the $$$$, nation wide and I also know that the border towns here in AZ are tired of the illegals coming across. AZ Mar

Yep. He wanted to two years ago, and was persuaded to run again. Maybe he will run for an office in-state. Like Governor.

I think there’s a way for her to leave her options open if a primary fight develops between McCain and JD. That changes everything.

That is a very encouraging scenario. Thank you!

To me, this was her only tactical mistake. Then again, I'm sure McCain pushed this timetable on her for reasons she didn't see coming (face it, she's still a rookie as to palace intrigue at this level).

If he were running unopposed in the primary, it looked like she would just be supporting him against a worse Rat.

That's acceptable to me.

With JD in the race, she'll find a way to recalibrate.

This might be a true test for her. I will be interested to see how she handles the situation.

More information on this from around 12/3/2009 on FR:

Again, I’ve reached no conclusions and don’t wish to snipe JD. I am interested in the truth.

greyfoxx, I have been a huge Fred Head for a long, long time.

Regarding the earmarks, 2006 took them, and us, to the woodshed on that issue, and is one of the reasons why the GOP lost as big as they did. By 2006, the GOP was playing the same games as the Dems.

I don’t believe I “trashed” or “slammed” JD.

I pointed out that he lost his seat in 2006, after winning the re-districted seat in 2004, and after 12 years in Congress.

I pointed out that he was at the end of his run, an Earmark King, and big spender...all true.

I also posted facts about his PAC, and his connection to Abramoff.

I never once called him a name, nor posted an ad hominem comment about him. Nor do I subject posters who disagree with me to ad hominem attacks.

Certainly, he could have been subjected to a dirty campaign and Soros money, but that isn’t going to abate simply because he’s running for Senator.

As far as whom you Arizonans choose, McCain or Hayworth, its a toss-up to me (although it wouldn’t hurt me at all to see McCain off the stage.) I realize JD has taken a strong stance against amnesty now, but that is a relatively recent conversion for him.

I take an interest in politics throughout the country. I am from California, after all, and we don’t have much to be cheerful about...yet.

Just got back from the Arizona GOP Convention at which McCain was a guest. When he got up to speak, he was met with a chorus of JD, JD, JD, JD.....

He has seen his day and now it is time for the last of the Keating-Five to retire. JD was at the convention and received wonderful applause and promises of support.

Write to Sarah and ask her to stay out of this battle at:

Tell me about it...I have a son in San Jose.

Truce, OK? I think JD is the best candidate to beat McCain at this point and I thought he was a good rep for me.

I don’t defend earmarks..but amnesty is a clear threat to our country. Dems will have permanent majority and it will reward criminality.

“I have to admire her loyalty as well, I just think she will get burned. McCain will drop her like a hot potato if it is to his advantage. I think she just believes in goodness of people, until they do a Couric. Naive is more the word, can’t fault her for that either. She is just a very nice person, and I hate to see her hurt again.”

compassionate conservatism again...

“Certainly, I think he is a one issue guy, immigration. I am against illegals, but its not the whole world to me. I match the two together and McCain has done more for my state.”

yup, like cap and trade, opposing the Bush tax cuts, supporting the bailout, against waterboarding and Gitmo...but illegals will be the whole world for you once they are able to vote.

I agree. My attitude about earmarks is that some are wasteful, but many are worthwhile and provide funds for projects smaller areas could never afford. And, since (before Obama at least) they usually run around $30 billion in a $3 trillion+ budget, they are a tiny amount to receive so much loud attention.

They're a cheap applause line, while few dare mention entitlements where hundreds of billions are spent on several different programs. And it is well known that Medicare and Medicaid fraud cost more each year than all the earmarks.

But they have become a very popular cheap applause line, so we'll continue to hear it unless someone is brave enough and capable enough to put it in context.

Indeed, that expectation became reality. the National Center for Policy Analysis estimates that Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse cost about $44 billion each year

I see a definite silver lining in your statement about immigration reform.
The lefties keep trying to push the idea that a majority of Americans are for amnesty when FReepers contend that the opposite is so.
We can have a drawn out fight to the finish in Arizona over this very issue and make it a referendum on McCains amnesty stance.
If a border state like AZ votes for Hayworth over McCain, then we know that immigration reform is a loser for Obama on the national stage.

Sarah owes him her very political life. Where would she be without McCain? Still an unknown governor in Alaska.

The whole point is that it is time for politics to not be about payback but about principle.

++++++++++++++++

Right - important to keep focused on the vital, urgent issues at hand.

There are some distractions that Hayworth brings to the table. I must say, using a PAC as a bit of a piggy bank for your wife does bother me. I hope they’ve changed their ways...Even if JD and his wife had a past conflict of interest or two (Abramoff money to his TEAM PAC or some earmarks), and face it no politician is pure as the driven snow, there’s probably 98% of the sitting RAT caucus and 1/4 of sitting Republicans (recall McCain was one of the Keating five!) that are worse. Also, the Justice Department and the FBI didn’t think JD’s issues raised enough concern to pursue.
