Barney Frank (D-MA) released this statement following Brown's win tonight. (Transcribed by me from MSNBC):
"I have two reactions to the election in Massachusetts. One, I am disappointed. Two, I feel strongly that the Democratic majority in Congress must respect the process and make no effort to bypass the electoral results.
If Martha Coakley had won, I believe we could have worked out a reasonable compromise between the House and Senate health care bills. But since Scott Brown has won and the Republicans now have 41 votes in the Senate, that approach is no longer appropriate.
I am hopeful that some Republican senators will be willing to discuss a revised version of health care reform because I do not think that the country would be well served by the healthcare status quo.
But our respect for democratic procedures must rule out any effort to pass a health care bill as if the Massachusetts election had not happened.
Going forward, I hope there will be a serious effort to change the Senate rule which means that 59 votes are not enough to pass major legislation, but those are the rules by which the health care bill was considered, and it would be wrong to change them in the middle of this process."
I don't know if Frank has said anything similar before, but this is the first I am hearing it. It sounds to me like at least some Democrats have gotten the message and don't want to own this stinker of a health care bill.

Barney will face voters from the same pool that voted against Obama today.
If Nelson is being heckled in restaurants for his vote imagine what life would be like for a Rino who changed sides now. They’d have to seek asylum in Cuba to lead a normal life!
I said this on a couple of other Freeper posts:
Watch Rahm Emmanuel. That will be the key. If 0zer0 and the other dumbcrats throw him under the bus, that will mean that he is the fall guy, and expect triangulation ala rapist Clinton.
If Emmanuel stays, expect the Narcissist 0zer0 to double down on his Fascist Agenda.
It sounds to me like he just found out that a credible opponent has decided it’s reasonable to run against him, and he’s been getting screamed at over his Freddie / Fannie shenanigans.
There are a lot of Democrats breathing a huge sigh of relief right now. More than a handful luke-warmly committed to Mengelecare (some after having their kneecaps shot) and they want OUT of this nightmare in time to recover for November. Brown’s victory gave them just the excuse they needed to bail.
Communist health care reform is dead as Ted.
WHAT A COWARD, THE PROGRESSSIVES AIN’T GONNA BE HAPPY WITH BARNEY.
Some might try the 51 vote nuclear solution, others might try recruiting some more liberal RINOs. We must stay on the offensive
Wait till the "Botox Queen" gets a hold of him, it ain't going to be pretty ;^)
This may be the first time I have ever agreed with Bwwrany Fwrank on anything!!! A miracle must have happened tonight!!! I still hope & pray he is soundly defeated in the upcoming elections, the immoral reprobate!!!
It’s “every man for himself” in the democrat ranks now, as expected. I’m loving it!
Great minds think alike, I had the same thoughts....
How do they just get rid of her? Can they just say?... “we don’t want you as speaker of the house any more.”
He’s the smartest man in D.C. according to 60 minutes.
Looks like Barney has decided to seek a new career as a stand-up comic...
Of course in his previous career he was a "stand-up Commie"...
Barney says...look over here while I pocket some more Fanny May and Freddie Mac money.
Republicans need to get their act together. The people are angry at the incumbents in Washington. Lots of pubbies voted for tarp and other things that the people do not want.
If they do not get with it, they could be out as well. Challengers in the primaries with the right message could replace incumbents.
At the last election, my husband just voted against all incumbents republican or democrat, and I know a lot of people who feel the same way. They feel that all of Congress responds only to the lobbyists-not the people they are supposed to represent.
Party tonight. Ted Kennedy’s grave. There Will Be Dancing.
