Tunes For The Troops

**Artist Showcase**

Eithne Patricia Ní Bhraonáin (born 17 May 1961), better known as Enya, is an Irish vocalist, instrumentalist and composer. Her name is sometimes presented in the media as Enya Brennan; Enya is an approximate transliteration of how Eithne is pronounced in the Irish language, her native tongue.

She began her musical career in 1980, when she briefly joined her family band Clannad, before leaving to pursue her solo career. Her album Watermark, which was released in 1988, propelled her to international recognition and Enya became known for her unique sound, which was characterised by voice-layering, folk melodies, synthesised backdrops and ethereal reverberations.

This music is provided for the entertainment of our Troops, Veterans, Allies & their families!

Enjoy the variety of musical selections that the Canteen Deejays have provided throughout the thread. Please ping any DJ with your requests for the Troops.

All music is removed on Monday.
Thanks to all the DeeJay's for their time & effort providing entertainment for the Troops!

REST IN PEACE, FALLEN BROTHER!

Spc. David A. Croft, Jr., USA, KIA Iraq 5JAN2010

I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

God Of Our Fathers

Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in peace!
We who remain hold you in high honor.
Rest, fallen brother, in this sacred precinct;
We who remain keep this place sacred.
Rest, fallen brother, among these, your comrades;
We who remain keep the watch.
Rest, fallen brother, among these who answered the Nation’s call;
We who remain press the fight forward in your name.
Rest, fallen brother, lay down thy burden;
We who remain have taken up the torch.
Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in eternal peace!

Alex Chilton, lead singer of the Box Tops, was a prodigy who could sing -- at the tender age of 16 -- like an old black singer of the blues. He was also egotistical and self-destructive. As early as 1967 his producers were kicking around an idea for a kind of up-tempo country music that would later be known as Hot Country -- and would take over country-and-western totally.

The producers had teamed up with some the best young songwriters in Nashville, to include Wayne Carson Thompson, Eddie Rabbit and Mark James. They attempted to make Chilton the first hit singer of Hot Country, and the Box Tops' "Cry Like a Baby", written by Thompson, was supposed to be the first shot in a war to update country music. Chilton wanted nothing much to do with it, although in 1969 he recorded "Soul Deep", the Box Tops' last hit, which was also written by Thompson.

With the teenage Chilton showing his usual immaturity, the production team approached "Colonel" Tom Parker, Elvis' manager, with a proposition. Presley's career had been in the tank since the British Invasion of 1964-65. The production team told Parker they could revive Elvis' career and make him the avatar of Hot Country. All he had to do was to work with a new generation of Nashville producers and writers who had a vision. Parker bought in.

"In the Ghetto" was the first item recorded in the Nashville sessions, and it immediately brought Elvis' career back. Later he would record "Suspicious Minds" (Mark James) and "Kentucky Rain" (Eddie Rabbit).

Mark James also wrote "Hooked on a Feeling" which was recorded by B.J. Thomas. Thompson wrote "Bit by Bit" which was recorded by Merging Traffic, a Kansas City Hot Country band.

"In the Ghetto" started a whole new sound.

Nice pics alfa 6. Love that Lancaster. I got to tour one and watch it fly a few years ago at a PA airshow. That thing is remarkable, big and slow. Those guys that flew and crewed those deserve a big salute.

Thanks,
AR
