'Good Jobs Now!' campaign can help NY state be strong again
Albany Times-Union ^ | January 3, 2010 | By ANDREAS KRIEFAL

We have heard a lot from Gov. David Paterson about the terrible shape of the state budget.

But New York has a chance to do this better right now. It has $27 billion in federal stimulus funds to spend over two years, the bulk of which has not yet been used. The primary purpose of that money is job creation.

The state also has received (in two parts) an additional $500 million windfall from the federal welfare contingency fund. This money can be used to draw down additional stimulus dollars for job training and work activity.

Finally, state lawmakers enacted the Green Jobs, Green NY program, which aims to weatherize 1 million homes in the next five years, paid for with energy savings in those same homes. The program is designed to create 14,000 permanent jobs.

I may have missed it, but if I’m not mistaken the author, in an opinion piece about creating good jobs, did not mention private employers once. The only good jobs this fellow is interested in are those for he and his cronies - sponging off of taxpayer money.

Nothing can help New York State be strong again, save the dissolution of unions and the firing of every single Dem and RINO from government positions and the adoption of rational tax codes.

Buuuuuuut, instead they’ll blow it all by using it cover for unreformed overspending. Oh, and they’ll raise taxes too.

What happens when the “stimulus” money runs out? New York’s problems are systemic. Feeding the beast doesn’t change the system. In fact it will only make it more hungry. Caulking windows as a means of getting out of near depression is a pathetic solution almost akin to having the community organizer telling you to check your tire pressure.

This has to be one of the most economically illiterate statements ever to appear in print, other than "Das Kapital" and "The Communist Manifesto".

Ditto to your point as well.

Ye ole: Spend a dollar to save 10 cents.

I winterized all the windows in my place. $7 for 3 mil plastic...$3 for tape.

Caulk is stupid cheap, too.

Too many sheisters (sp) in the home remodeling business.

Amen. That is it, This state must also end the wide corruption that is bleeding it to death, but since there are so many on the take, this will not happen. My prediction, bankruptcy bu April 1st.

Speaking of tax payer dollars, The tolls for the Thruway went up today. It’s the fourth hike in the past five years. Since 2005, Thruway tolls are up 45 percent.
Everything the author spoke of is taxpayer dollars. There has been so much “job training” in NY that it should have citizens splitting atoms

These people will NEVER get it.

A “non-profit” cannot produce jobs; jobs come from profit-making enterprises.

BTW, it’s a pretty good bet the rag that published this tripe is well on the way to becoming a “non-profit” itself :)

You get what you pay for.

Which is why NYS is fixing to lose at least one House seat after the next census. My money's on two, unless the census takers manage to pad the rolls with enough illegals.

Upstate needs its own state.
