Abstract
For more than a year, Sarah Palin has been a national Rorschach test. The views expressed about her reveal the distinctions and conflicting perceptions of often antagonistic groups of Americansthe religious and the secular, the conservative and the liberal, the urban and the small town, the elitist and the populist.
And now, with the publication of her autobiography, Going Rogue, and Matthew Continettis The Persecution of Sarah Palin, the Rorschach tests are being administered anew, and with increasing fervor.
For her conservative admirers, she continues to exemplify independence, moxie, common sense, the superiority of the common American over the nations elites, and the embodiment of modern womanhood and Christian faith.
For her detractors, both conservative and liberal, she is uncouth, unschooled, a hick, anti-science and anti-intellectual, an upstart, and a religious fanatic. There is no group so firmly in the latter camp as American Jews. And there is much to learn in their reaction to Palin, both about her and about the sociological makeup of American Jewry today. While Palin enjoys support from some prominent Jewish conservatives, it is not an exaggeration to say that, more so than any other major political figure in recent memory (with the possible exception of Patrick J. Buchanan), she rubs Jews the wrong way . . .
Ask an average American Jew about Palin and you are likely to get a nonverbal responsea shiver, a shudder, a roll of the eyes, or a guffaw. Naomi Wolf, the feminist writer, sputtered that Palin was the FrankenBarbie of the Rove-Cheney cabal, articulating the mixture of contempt and fear that seemed to grip many Jewish women.
The disdain is palpable and largely emotional. While 78 percent of American Jews voted for the Obama-Biden ticket, it is fair to say that most did not harbor animosity toward or contempt for Senator John McCain; the same cannot be said of their view of Palin . . .
Most Jews like most Christians are Jews or Christians by tradition only. They call themselves Jews or Christians because it is their heritage. They are not Jews or Christians that subscribe to the faith of their Scriptures. Palin does subscribe to the Scriptures she professes to follow. This article could have been written for instance titled: Why members of the United Church of Christ hate Palin. As Obama’s chosen church the UCC is for same sex marriage, a woman’s right to abort her child (supporter of NARAL) and numerous other liberal social agendas that does not conform to Christian Scripture. Liberals are liberals - I guarantee the percentage of UCC, Episcopal, Presbyterian Church USA, etc church subscribers that voted for Obama/Biden would be similar to the percentage of Jews that did.
I always bring her name up if the conversation turns to politics, and I always get the same set of reactions: idiot-redneck-biblethumping-cretin.
The well of top drawer opinion has been thoroughly poisoned, and that crowd will never see her as the radiant, patriotic, pro-freedom, pro-family force she is.

My Mom’s entire family is from Israel, but my cousins, they act like they can give a rats behind about Israel, even though they have visited the country on numerous occasions..even before the election I told one of them “Don’t you care that Obama doesn’t care about Israel” and he said “Oh that’s not my problem” most Jews are self hating jews, they hate their religion
Post #5 you nailed it!
Could that be because that well of elite opinion is unanimously bitter, unpatriotic, anti-freedom and anti-family?
“While 78 percent of American Jews voted for the Obama-Biden ticket, it is fair to say that most did not harbor animosity toward or contempt for Senator John McCain”
++++++++++++++++
Just read between the lines...here’s the ‘why’ right there. 78% of American Jews are hopelessly infested with RAT/RINO thinking...If they start thinking logically, maybe they will also think logically about Palin.
Another logical fallacy. “Anti-intellectual”
Translation: “We’re the experts, you don’t know s@$t, we’ll decide what’s best for you.”
As a denizen of flyover country, have been constantly amazed at just how ill-educated some of the ivory tower folks are. This characterization if it ever was true, is much less increasingly so today. It is true that most people should instinctively dislike pseudo-intellectuals, but that’s not news.
Thank you for your support. Now please tell us why 78% of the Jewish voters supported Obama? I have asked my Jewish friends who brag about voting for him and they have the standard answer because we wanted change. When I ask them if they are happy now with what they got there is no answer. It does not speak well for their collective mentality and unfortunately the sins of the father are visited upon the sons.
Liberal American Jews hate Isreal.
I saw no answer in this commentary.
It seems to say she is not liked because she is not liked.
It could improve credibility to, at the same time, explain the affection for the schwarz goyim elevated by the Jewish community to the highest office.
The most important question is, how can the highly intellectual Jewish Community be so stupid and foolish!?
What is even more bizarre is that American Jews living in Israel voted for McCain/Palin over Obama/Biden by a 3 to 1 margin.
It sounds like your cousins are too enamored of their own liberal-americanism to care about Isreal. Which is a shame, because if they’d embrace Isreal and their people, they would be identifying themselves with some of the most courageous people in human history.
You hit the nail on the head. Liberalism is the prevailing religion. And its sacraments are sodomy & abortion.
Most of any people aren’t all that smart. There are many Jews who like her. I also think the title of the article was designed to be catchy/edgy instead of totally truthful (most titles are). I’m a Huckabee supporter, who I agree with more and who seems to be our best candidate for a lot of reasons, but Palin is in the top 10 and as I tell libs, a look at her governing record paints a very, very different picture than the one the media has portrayed. Why do liberal Jews hate Palin? The same reason all liberals hate Palin. Because they’re illogical, group thinking kool-aid drinkers who will hate anyone the media projects their hatred and biases on, period.
Jews in Israel are aborting their demographic out of existence.
In other words, that well is poisoned.
Bingo! To liberal women, abortion is the core of their existence.
It can be stated simply. The Jews of whom Jennifer speaks are liberals. Liberals despise anyone they find to be different from themselves.
And I don’t buy the claim that they didn’t despise McCain. I’m sure they did, though they probably were content to bask in the ironic pleasure that he angered conservatives even more by his conflicting views and actions than he angered liberals for being unlike them.
They are, like all liberals, practitioners of the “religion of tolerance” (for me but not for thee).
