WASHINGTON -- Senate Democrats are poised to pass a landmark health care bill that could define President Barack Obama's legacy and usher in near-universal medical coverage for the first time in U.S. history.
Ahead lie complex talks with the House to reach final legislation in the new year.
"We stand on the doorstep of history," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat. "We recognize that, but much more importantly, we stand so close to making so many individual lives better."
The vote Thursday on the bill extending health care coverage to some 31 million uninsured Americans brings Obama closer to achieving his top domestic priority. The White House and Congress have now come farther toward the goal of a comprehensive overhaul of the U.S. health care system than any of their predecessors.
But the final step may be the hardest: reconciling the Senate bill with a significantly different version already approved in November by the House of Representatives.

Didn’t hear a vote from Hutchison.......
Nelson of Nebraska “Aye”.
I had to turn off the tv. I’m weepy and nauseous at what is happening to our country.
Hutchinson voted no.
Reid gestures—brings down the house—yuk,yuk, a-hole.
Something just happened, they all started laughing.
Glad you turned off the TV . . . when they called Reid’s name, the place applauded.
Snow No.
Spector—Aye. Another traitor.
As an aside, I find it difficult to fathom their hatred for the children, Christmas and for our culture. It is obvious they are the spawn of evil. Pox on them all.
and at 0712, America died.

May God Have Mercy on America
Webb—Aye.
The end is near.
This is their big historical moment. Let’s all celebrate the loss of our freedom. May they all have the worst New Year possible.
That was the bill, and it passed.
Hutchison—No. late vote.
That was in response to Reid's name being called . . . when the laughter subsided, they started clapping.
Can't wait for his "retirement".
I keep teelling people that about LIEberman. For some reason, they wont believe me.
Democrats are the enemy of freedom.
They have drawn a line in the political sands.
We must step across and take back OUR country.
That is our task from now until November 2, 2010.
Lord God, give us the strength, so that we will not fail.
He was on the ticket with Gore. That's tells me all I need to know about Lieberman.
All I can say is that physically there are many more of us than them but as throughout history for whatever reason people tend just to take it. We work as slaves for the oligarchs and others who cast votes for them.
The founders roll..
