exactly. they saw/heard it all first hand, and made their verdict. but we have the amateur lawyers on FR who know better, having read newspaper and internet accounts.

“She changed her story so many times, she proved herself a liar.”
********

This is the first I have heard of this story. I read all the articles that were linked on this thread. She is a beautiful looking girl and I’d like to think she was not guilty, but I suspect her own inconsistent stories may have done her in, and that there was a compelling reason why she couldnt keep her story straight.

On the other hand, the prosecution’s case and its own credibility appears to be greatly compromised as well.

The BF’s alibi didnt pan out with his internet provider.

The dude who is already convicted and in jail appears to be the most culpable.

I am not convinced that her DNA that was found in her apt means anything. I have knives in my kitchen that have my DNA on them, but I havent injured anyone with them.

I also think the motives given by the State are WEAK, but her inconsistent stories are problematic for me.

I really do hope young people learn some lessons from this. So much future & promise for these young people - wasted & destroyed.

Wild lifestyles in foreign countries are a bit more dangerous than here at home. my daughter lived in a dorm on the campus of her small US Catholic University, in the outskirts of Rome. She had a wonderful experience and never encountered any of the sort of activities that Amanda Knox partook in. The systems of justice in other countries are very different than our’s.

I thought the world had forgiven us since the ascension of the 'One' to the American throne...

I feel for Amanda's parents. It's something I know about. Having to deal with the a failure of a child is the most painful thing there is.

Thanks Onyx, I’ll try to catch up. I do remember one of the explanations about the knife that I think her father gave this morning——she did cook and her DNA would have naturally been on the knife anyway.

The explanation made perfect sense to me too, mupcat. I forgot to watch the Dateline on the case, not that I’d put much value into anything nbc. I just watched the abc 20/20. Sympathetic to Amanda Knox and her family. More on Nightline.

I don’t know if we’ll hear from jurors like we sometimes or usually do here, but I would be interested to hear from some of them, particularly the two judges.

It's also helpful to read papers outside the US.

The murder victim was a UK citizen. Here is The TIMES UK news story.

I've looked at the fact. What Iook for in a case like this is for evidence that one or more of the people involved is a psychopath. the Facebook quote “I don’t get embarrassed and therefore have very few social inhibitions.” is a bad sign. doing cartwheels and the splits is a bad sign. showing strange behavior, no emotions, and cuddling while waiting to be questioned as well as the "casual, almost amused tone" used to discuss a a pink rabbit-shaped vibrator in the house are bad signs. The shark stare and creepy smile in quite a few of the pictures is a bad sign. There are other things, too. And her father is in serious denial if he interprets her reaction to the vibrator story as trying to let the jury know she's "not a promiscuous young lady" when her alibi for the killing was that she was smoking marijuana and having sex with her boyfriend.

No, I can't guarantee to you that she's guilty but there is plenty of evidence suggesting that something is just not right with her.

I spent a lot of time in Italy. It is hardly a developing nation like some here act.

the only thing I can say about their courts with certainty is that they have a lot of cops, prosecutors and judges killed by the various mafia groups...something we have rarely ever had to endure.

I do not want to make a judgment, but if I do, it certainly won’t be based on what the family’s PR reps or pundits on CNN or even FOX NEWS tell me. Just because the American media says the Italian media is messed up...does not mean we should trust what our own messed up American media says.

We are only getting one side of the story, we are not getting the Italian judges’ side, or the jurors’ side, or the prosecutor’s side, or witnesses(?), etc...etc...

AT the end of the day, none of us were in the courtroom.

Ultimately, GOD will be her judge and I take comfort in that.

".i don't know much about it...it's damned curious"

I've been following the case. I have spent some time in Italy including Perugia. But even I can say, "I still don't know much about it".

A lot of conflicting information, stories that prove not to be true and unexplained behavior by all involved. Still a real mystery to me as to what exactly happened.

Would there have been enough evidence to convict in an American court? No. Was there any real evidence to link Amanda or her boyfriend (of one week) to the immediate murder scene? No. But did Amanda and her boyfriend tell stories that were dis-proven? Yes. Do I think that one or both of them knew more than they stated? Yes. But that leaves us all with the idea that, "What could have been more important to hide than clearing ourselves of murder?" Nothing. So why didn't they just tell the truth about everything if they weren't involved? Have absolutely no idea, and that's what leads many to think that they are guilty and me to wonder what the heck happened.

Like I said, a real mystery.

NO one, so far, has actually addressed the difference between European (Napoleonic) Law and US Law. In the US, the accused is presumed innocent whereas in Europe the accused is presumed guilty and must prove innocence. It is much more difficult to prove a crime was NOT committed by you than to prove a particular individual committed the crime.

DNA evidence is fragile and if not handled properly can produce erroneous results. Just look at all the cases here in the US where people have had the DNA evidence re-examined by properly credentialed professionals with no stake in the outcome and lo and behold, they have been exonerated!

Interrogation techniques can yield false positives as well. A person under duress will say anything to make the interrogation stop. The bill of rights we have here in the US does NOT apply in Europe. They can do anything to anyone and not be held to account for any of it. Power confers right over there. Please understand that fact. The accused has no power, and therefore can never be right.

Whether Amanda Knox is actually innocent or guilty the question still remains: did she get a FAIR trial? or did the media and the Italians looking for publicity screw her over? We don’t know, do we?

The city of Perugia has benefited tremendously from this high profile trial, both financially and in propaganda. Career minded police and prosecutors love the stage and will do anything to be seen as “heroes.” This overly sensationalized trial has been a well staged international drama full of evil designed to titillate a bored audience. More bread and circuses for the masses. Just eat it up and be fat and happy. Tomorrow you could be on trial and you won’t be laughing then, I guarantee it!
