Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani has decided not to run for governor next year - but will run for U.S. Senate instead, sources told the Daily News.

A source familiar with Giuliani's thinking said the failed presidential candidate has been telling people he plans to run against Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in 2010 to fill out the remaining two years of Hillary Clinton's term.

He WOULD be an improvement in the Senate, but only if we cannot do better.

How about DOUG HOFFMAN. He is a true conservative, not a rino like Rudy.

Who cares if he tries to run for president.
he screwed up his last bid about as badly as you can scew up any presidential run.
who would assume 2012 would be any different?

VP ? ... maybe, but only on a strongly conservative ticket

Hell no.

Let us not forget that we do not simply vote for a President; we vote for an entire administration with a particular governing (or ruling) philosophy (i.e., what Reagan called "certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers").

It does no good if the President is conservative but all the advisers and department heads are nanny-statists, RINOs, and Big Government "compassionate conservatives", since the President will inevitably take advice from his (or her) advisers. Furthermore, the administration must be filled with people who are actually willing to back up their words with actions, rather than simply paying lip service to those "certain fundamental beliefs."

I’d rather he took Hillary’s seat and stayed there

This is Hillary's seat. Gillibrand replaced her when she became secretary of state.

I agree. There are times when I begin to see that it is futile to push for Conservatism. Hell, folks on our own side don’t even get it.

Mumbles to self as he walks away from the keyboard...

Personally, I would like a Cheney/Rudy or Rudy/Cheney team.

It would be the “take no prisoners” ticket.

I didn't think that Dame Judith would be happy with a stinkin' Governor's Mansion.

Rugged, you are in the wrong forum.

This forum and its owner have time and time and time again renounced Rudy Giuliani, and at one point actually purged his supporters from the site to make a statement. The only thing supporting Rudy Giuliani for President will get you at Free Republic is a new screen name from a new IP address.

You need to find a much more moderate site, because this is a Conservative site, and you are NOT - NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT - a Conservative. A Republican, maybe; but not a Conservative. No CONSERVATIVE would support a gun-grabbing, Hate-Crimes-supporting, Gay-rights-championing, Partial-Birth-Abortion-supporting, NARAL “Champion of Choice” for President of the United States of America. Not in a million years, even IF there's still a Democratic Party. Yet you proudly tout your support for him, which makes you an enemy of the 2nd Amendment Defenders, Pro-Lifers, Pro-Traditional Family supporters, Judicial Conservatives, and folks who oppose thought crimes. You would willingly empower one of the most ardent enemies these groups have had in the last two decades, which no Conservative could ever bring themselves to do.

Just because you weren't Liberal enough for the Huffington Post doesn't mean you belong at Free Republic. You need to find a more middle-of-the-road site.

D’Amato was elected when Reagan won New York State. The last election he won was 16 years ago and he was replaced 10 years ago by the vile, utterly loathsome Chuck Schumer. New York has taken a hard left since the days Al D’Amato.

Guiliani is the best we can hope for in New York right now.

In my book, Giuliani is another liberal POS too and he should be kicked to the curb along with Obama, where all the crap belongs. Any politico who can't bring themselves to defend the most vulnerable and innocent in our society -— the unborn -— doesn't deserve to be elected to any position of public trust. Not to mention supporting big government, curbing the rights of gun owners by regulating the 2nd amendment, giving special rights to gays and illegals and promoting the anthropogenic factor on the issue of global warming. No thanks!

This is not the modus operandi of FR. If it is, then this is not a conservative site. Because conservatives value the free exchange of ideas. Democrats purge and silence people. They are the Stalinists. If this gets me banned, then count one less Freepathon contributor. The free exchange of ideas is what is happening in the Republican Party. The MSM calls it "infighting" but it is more properly understood as retaking the conservative ideology for the Republican Party, the largest vessel of conservatism and our only hope.

You obviously didn't even read the article, so I won't even bother to respond. Deroy Murdock (if you've read any of his articles) should take your excommunication of him to heart, since you're conservative credentials obviously far exceed his. /sarc

You remind me of the people who despised Reagan in the late 1970s and called him a RINO. If it were up to those people, we would've had a second term of Carter. A Guiliani presidency, in practice, would be a battle royale with liberalism. How do I know? He's already done it and whipped them. Or, more properly, "waged war".

Guiliani-Palin 2012, in either order. Make Olbermann's head explode.

Sorry, but Mayor Giussolini (a has-been) should be disqualified due to his association with Kerick and Ray Harding alone. A center-left control freak who was VOTED IN BY NEW YORK LIBERALS doesn’t deserve to be on a national ticket. Nothing but a spoiled brat from Lawn Guyland pretending to be tough for the sheeple watching Fox.

You didn't read the article, either.

I tell you what, I'll make the link extra large this time so you won't miss it. You can go read how Guiliani saved New York City from the ravages of David Dinkins and re-made the financial center of the world. I understand you hate NYC because it's populated by plenty of liberals, but even liberals will eventually become conservative if faced with malaise and decline. Which is why Barack Hussein Obama (mmmmm-mmmmm-mmmmm!) is a one-termer and why Guiliani can clean up after Obama just like he did David Dinkins, along the way "waging war" with liberalism. Okay, hopefully this link is long enough.

In all seriousness, I am not impressed at all with the contenders outside of Palin and Guiliani. They are both deadly serious about defeating the Left. Guiliani just has more experience doing so. Either of them would bring us back from the brink of Obamageddon. Either of them would be a street-fighter against the Left.

Sorry, but I prefer FR to ANY of the cable news networks. Fox is preferable to most, but I can't stomach the tabloid BS.

The "sheeple" I am referring to are the fools who are taken in by Giussolini the law and order Liberal's "tough guy" act on said network. I wish he would go back to his white trash bubble headed mistress/wife and stop infecting America.

Rudy is not a “street fighter.” He is a spoiled child from suburban Lawn Guyland who, with his corrupt associations, shouldn’t spoil our Republic with his greasy hands on anything. I have lived in NY most of my life, appreciate much of what Rudy did as Mayor (although Bloomberg is little different ideologically and in practice, he is different in that he isn’t a grandstanding attention whore), but he is way too left-wing for America. His ideology and way of thinking is foreign to the Classical Liberalism of the founding fathers, and is rooted in European statism.

This guy has the governorship if he wants it. That’s the traditional platform to the Presidency. Not that I would vote for him for the latter.
