It could jeopardize counterterror programs and thereby endanger Americans, but who cares? "9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to go on trial in New York," from the Telegraph, November 13 (thanks to Anne Crockett):
President Barack Obama said the September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be put on trial in New York City. Speaking in Tokyo, Mr Obama said Mohammed, the self-proclaimed organiser of the al-Qaeda terrorist plot that killed almost 3,000 people in 2001, would face "exacting" US justice.
Bringing such notorious suspects to US soil to face trial would be a key step in Mr Obama's plan to close the US detention centre at Guantanamo Bay.
Mr Obama initially planned to close the centre at the US naval base on Cuba by Jan 22 next year, but his administration is no longer expected to meet that deadline.
It is also a major legal and political test of Mr Obama's overall approach to terrorism. If the case suffers legal setbacks, the administration will face second-guessing from those who never wanted it in a civilian courtroom.
Indeed.
The New York case may force the court system to confront a host of difficult legal issues surrounding counter-terrorism programmes begun after the 2001 attacks, including the harsh interrogation techniques once used on some of the suspects while in CIA custody. The most severe method - waterboarding, or simulated drowning - was used on Mohammed 183 times in 2003, before the practice was banned.... It's up to you, New York, New York!
Thanks
AG Eric Holder Press Conference anytime now...
I like your idea better.
Part of me would like to see this POS found Not Guilty by a jury of maniacs. If that were to happen and this clown walked out of the court a free man I believe it would be a turning point against liberal/ACLU types. The rage would engulf the city. What a sight it would be.
Can we dip him in bacon grease, too?
I like it.
Dip him in hot bacon grease, light him on fire, and throw him off the Empire State Building. Do it just after sunset, and sell it live on pay-per-view.
I wish to God they were not coming here but what the heck can we do to stop it now? They are coming and theres not a da*n thing we can do about it. Holder on TV right now announcing their arrival.
There is no way that these SOB’s will see freedom because someone will take the law into their own hands. Will it be me? No I doubt I’d ever see these scum face to face, but I can promise you this, someone will. This is what I believe.
The second thing any defense lawyer states about his client is that he cannot get a fair trial in the venue where the crime was committed.
There is method in the Justice Dept decision, to make this a show trial, shades of the OJ trial - something for the masses to observe while the Obama Regime continues to destroy our country from within.
Maybe Greg Craig is resigning as WH counsel so he can defend them.
####
Very likely. I bet he has close professional associations with lawyers who have been defending gitmo detainees pro bono.
Catherine Herridge on FNC now reporting that it could take ten years for the case to go to trial.
Then, why aren’t we asking congresscritters to impeach him for his offenses against the country?
Couldn’t we start a group to take our case to the Supreme Court? This crap needs to stop now!!!
Instead of chasing after his birth cert., we need to demand that our rights be protected against this dictator. Who else but the Supreme Court can stop him?
Well, really! His peers are murderous scumbags just like him!
We don't have 'standing'. But it's a nice thought.
“that believe in the 9-11 conspiracy theories.” Does Rosie O’Donnell still live in NYC? This is insane!
Let’s see who has “standing” on april 15th!
Perhaps we should get serious about this thing and refuse to pay taxes until we have representation!
How many of us could they throw in jail? We need millions of folks to get on this bandwagon and just choke them off of all funds. Starve the beast.
Gosh, I wonder how that is going to turn out?
I say release him and don't bother spending the money on the NYC trial. He's going free anyway. We would be better off sending the money to ACORN than enduring the painful circus of trying to get a conviction on this fiend!
First sentence out of Rush’s mouth today was concerning this trial in NY. He called it “insidious”.
“Disgusting travesty” is what Rush is calling it. Notes that Obama is out of town - as usual when bad news is revealed.
