It could jeopardize counterterror programs and thereby endanger Americans, but who cares? "9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to go on trial in New York," from the Telegraph, November 13 (thanks to Anne Crockett):
President Barack Obama said the September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be put on trial in New York City. Speaking in Tokyo, Mr Obama said Mohammed, the self-proclaimed organiser of the al-Qaeda terrorist plot that killed almost 3,000 people in 2001, would face "exacting" US justice.
Bringing such notorious suspects to US soil to face trial would be a key step in Mr Obama's plan to close the US detention centre at Guantanamo Bay.
Mr Obama initially planned to close the centre at the US naval base on Cuba by Jan 22 next year, but his administration is no longer expected to meet that deadline.
It is also a major legal and political test of Mr Obama's overall approach to terrorism. If the case suffers legal setbacks, the administration will face second-guessing from those who never wanted it in a civilian courtroom.

The New York case may force the court system to confront a host of difficult legal issues surrounding counter-terrorism programmes begun after the 2001 attacks, including the harsh interrogation techniques once used on some of the suspects while in CIA custody. The most severe method - waterboarding, or simulated drowning - was used on Mohammed 183 times in 2003, before the practice was banned.... It's up to you, New York, New York!
Sorry to have sounded dumb on just what this Administration is. I saw through this guy during his campaign. If anyone really listened to him he told us everything that he is now doing. I also remember Michelle saying “Barack will never let you live your life as you have known it” Still think he should be impeached or tried for treason ( dreaming I know)

This is a really brilliant move. Paint another giant bullseye on NYC for every lunatic jihadist out there while this trial is going on. Then, when the bastards are acquitted or serve about two years, they can be let loose here.

Sheesh, don’t get cranky with me because you slept through the Nidal Malik Hasan (mmm mmm mmm!) statement from Chairman Obamao.
It’s hard to put into words the feelings this news elicits: rage, shock, incredulity and even resignation. My initial anger and disdain is, of course, directed at Obama, but also at those that voted for him.
As I try to examine this decision further, I think it is important to consider this action in the context of what we KNOW about BHO. He is a radical leftist. Not one that involves gulags or secret police, but one that honestly believes the underlying tenants of Marxism, coupled with a superiority complex of truly historical proportions. Sort a hedonistic, pacifistic Marxist if you will. He wants to show the world that we will react to world events in measured, thoughtful tones - as HE alone determines what those reactions (and actions) should be. Whether it be global wealth redistribution or bringing the bad people of the world to “justice.”
One of the things he lacks, other than an appreciation for American history, sacrifice, leadership and excellence, is most Americans’ preferred treatment of our true enemies - not political or idealogical opponents, but enemies. And that is, those evil vermin must be exterminated, not treated as “mere” criminals. This view is wholly supported by our collective and idividual views of morality, whether it be the concept of a “just war” or the Constitutional duty of the Commander in Chief and those he commands to protect us from all enemies foreign and domestic. In short, he just doesn’t understand, or, more likely, believe, that we are at WAR. History will judge him and those who eneable him. In the meantime, God help us.
if evidence is thrown out and he walks, I imagine he’ll walk over to the site of the Twin Towers and gloat. (then I hope the Ron Jeremy Chiapet lookalike gets his ass kicked into a coma.)
Or put him in a vacant 50th story office, start a controlled fire, and give him the same choice he gave the “jumpers” on 9/11: Leap out the window or painfully burn to death.
Change of venue will be the first battle, then the defense will seek dismissal of testimony extracted by “enhanced” methods, it’ll make the OJ trial look speedy.

Today Barack Obama is going to announce that the terrorist mastermind of September 11th, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, will be sent to New York City for a criminal trial in a civilian court.
In that trial, the terrorist will get all the rights afforded an American citizen in a criminal trial, including the right to a fair trial, the right to a taxpayer funded attorney, the right to review all the evidence against him, potentially including classified intelligence matters, the right to exclude evidence against him including, potentially, any confession obtained through enhanced interrogation techniques, etc.
At best, this will be a show trial fit not for the American Republic, but a third world kleptocratic totalitarian regime. At worse, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will gain access to classified material he can then leak to other terrorists while New York yet again becomes a target for terrorists. We have already had occasions in this country where terrorists’ sympathetic lawyers have conveyed information, orders, and plans to other terrorists.
