Not all Muslims interpret their religion the same way just as all Christians don’t. Perhaps that makes them bad Muslims from the perspective of the Fundamentalists and maybe they are all just fooling themselves and ignoring their own religion, but they exist. And let’s not forget that a large number of Christians believe that all non-Christians (if not all people who don’t belong to their particular sect of Christianity) are going to burn in Hell for eternity and that has been used, throughout the ages, to justify behavior every bit as murderous as that practiced by the Muslims. Look up the Rape of Constantinople, the Albigensian Crusade, the Saint Bartholomew’s Day Massacre, and I can go on and on, if you want. It’s not difficult to find anti-Christian and anti-religious atheists making the same argument that you are making, but directed at Christianity and/or Judaism.
Do we really want to be in the business of declaring religions, ideologies, and beliefs permissible or not and allow the persecution of people based on what they believe rather than what they’ve done? Really?
I’m not suggesting that Muslims get special protection. I’m frankly saddened by the cowardice of the media when it comes ot thinkgs like the Muhammed cartoons. What I’m suggesting is that we don’t go to the other extreme and deny them essential liberties (what’s that Franklin quote about liberty and safety, again?) and persecute people who have done nothing wrong and do not intend to do anything wrong solely on the basis of their religion or ethnicity in a broad and indiscriminate way.
me neither but that guy just made it a lot harder for them to be trusted and thats not an easy thing. How are soldiers going to be able to trust any other serving muslim soldiers when this happens on a base?

BOSTON (AP) - A pharmacy college graduate was indicted Thursday on new charges in an alleged terror plot to kill two prominent U.S. politicians and shoot people at American shopping malls.
Tarek Mehanna, of Sudbury, Mass., is accused of conspiring with two other men—Ahmad Abousamra, who authorities say is now in Syria, and an unnamed man who is now cooperating with authorities.

That is a freaking stupid rule, and one which has cost the lives of at least 12 people today.
Gun free zones do not work; neither in major urban areas, universities, or sadly, as shown today, on military bases.

Most Americans are not Amish or Quakers and let's not forget that one of the biggest losses of American lives was the Civil War, fought by American against American (and despite that, the secession and Confederacy are still romanticized by many). And let's also not forget that the left would just love for people to think of every one of us as a potential Timothy McVeigh. Not every conservative is a potential Timothy McVeigh. Not every Muslim is a potential Muhammed Atta.
