I mean the symbolism and downright mirrored portrayals are startlingly appropriate.

The original mini-series from the 80s has the same ominous tone. Were it not for the obvious 80s style, one could watch it today and think it was about the current state of affairs.

Yes, I agree. That would be very destructive to the original intent of the work though. A comparison of the ‘changed’ plot, would reveal a lot in and of itself, but not as many people would catch it.

We’d be charged with trying to get the word out then.

I particularly liked the “so basically, you’re offering us universal health care?” line. If that wasn’t a clear and deliberate shot across the bow of the S.S. Obama I don’t know what is.

I watched it back then, but didn’t see the obvious parallels I do now. Back then it was still unthinkable that something like this would happen here.

I agree that the old one is dated. This new one is pretty slick.

I watched it last night, too. It was great when the tv reporter was expressing remorse for selling out in his first tv interview with the leader.
