Still, though, we won in preventing a RINO from giving aid and comfort to the enemies in Congress. We won in demonstrating that Newt, lost in triangulation, has lost his political bearings (we got the first clue in his personal life). With the victories in New Jersey and Virginia, we won by demonstrating that the combination of a clear-cut conservative message and being GOP is not a losing proposition and that the RNC has only itself to blame for NY23.

That had nothing to do with why did the voters of this supposedly Republican district choose to vote for the RAT in the general election.

Obama gave a plum appointment to the GOPer who held this office previously giving an opening for the Dem to pick up this seat. Local Republican leaders appointed a liberal to run. National conservatives outed her and supported the real conservative in the race. Result, Obama strategy worked and they get another seat at least until next November. I guess you have to grudgingly say it is a short term victory for Obama.

Hoffman will hereby be known as "Sarah Palin's failed congressional choice, Doug Hoffman." Problem is, establishment GOP and Dems will both use it, the bassturds. I'm disappointed about Hoffman, but the fact is that over 50% of the voters up there voted against Owens. Scozzafava's name on the ballot ensured many brain-dead would vote for the R, and think of all the absentee ballots already turned in for her, prior to her betrayal. I think conservatives can and should be encouraged by Hoffman's standing. And then to see NJ go R -- that was the real story last night.

This is at the very least a good turn of events for republican's.

Exactly. There were two benefits:

- GOP learned that the conservative base will not stand for "moderate" (read: liberal) nominees.

- Conservatives avoided another Arlen Specter-esque RINO. Someone who would have most certainly voted with dems on healthcare, cap and trade, etc... Owens will still support these things, but he'll do so as a democrat. This hurts the dem congress' ability to claim bi-partisan support for its insanity.

hte only real opposition was from the Conservative party
the R was a liberal. basically the R vote was split between the official R who dropped out and endorsed the Democrat and the Conservative candidate. some people had already voted for the R. this was just one messed up race.

The local party does lean left so the National need to clean the local up first.

It WAS narrow! Had Hoffman been the R candidate and Scozzafa not on the ballot he would have won.

Corzine lost by 4 points in New Jersey in a three way race as well. Would you call that narrow? I don't; Corzine got his head handed to him. Well, Hoffman lost by the same percentage point in New York. So he lost, and not by a narrow margin. For him to have won all of Scozzafava's votes would have had to go to him, and I don't think that's a given. Instead of wringing our hands and saying "We would have won but..." the thing to do is regroup and unite around a single candidate for 2012 - maybe Hoffman, maybe another Conservative - and get the seat back.

This particular election served as a WARNING NOTICE.

A warning to the GOP

AND

A warning to those who would vote the partyline

AND

A warning to the rest of the nation about parties winning & losing.

Thousands, perhaps millions have learned a valuable lesson of how low the GOP will go to win a seat. A win for the “party” and a loss for America.
