ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Democrat Bill Owens has captured the special election for a New York congressional seat that became a fight over the identity of the Republican Party.

Ironic we would lose this one. I was thinking they would take NJ.
Long-time Repubs just habitually pull the lever for the “R” (Scuzzy was still on the ballot.) It was a strategic loss, not a referendum on conservatism.
Steele should immediatly resign.
There is no leadership at the RNC.
There is no leadership at the RNCC.
There is no leadershipa at the NY23 GOP Club.
Conservatives who supported Hoffman should purge NY23’s GOP club.
The GOP really screwed the pooch on this one.
Heavily GOP area? I thought that last time around that area went for Obama?
WHY did the RAT win?
But at least they’ll blame us Conservatives for being a bunch of Puritans.
So heavily Republican it was won by both Obama and Gore.
It wouldn’t have been close, but a Hoffman victory, had the GOP thrown it’s support earlier (and fully) behind him, instead of propping up Scozzafava who effectively stole the absentee ballots and siphoned off enough votes to spoil Hoffman’s victory.
Big Losers are
all johnny endorse latelies.
Mr. Steele
the MSM
Busy body old ladies of the local GOP that put in their RINO friend.
It will do none of us any good to come to wrong conclusions as to WHY this happened.
WHY did the voters of this district choose the RAT?
Amazing this AM, for every thread about the VA and NJ governors races there are 3 NY23 threads. Well I guess we have our share half full types and cranky mopes.
Bump for later reading...
Owens will represent the 23rd for one year. Come next November, after another year of The Messiah leading us, that district will be ready for Doug Hoffman...assuming the local Republicans aren’t so mad over his showing them to be buffoons and RINOs that they block him from the primary somehow.
Now if Scozzafava loses her Assembly seat in 2010 on top of that...sweet, sweet schadenfreude.

Obama has a history of removing opponents before an election.
Obama played hardball in first Chicago campaign
As a community organizer, he had helped register thousands of voters. But when it came time to run for office, he employed Chicago rules to invalidate the voting petition signatures of three of his challengers. Obama's past battlesThe move denied each of them, including incumbent Alice Palmer, a longtime Chicago activist, a place on the ballot. It cleared the way for Obama to run unopposed on the Democratic ticket in a heavily Democrat district.
So is this why the RAT won? I'm serious. I want to know WHY the RAT won.
See my previous comment. It was a very narrow Owens victory. The absentee votes were cast long before Hoffman gained momentum and were wasted on Scozzafava, who additionally sucked away a few thousand votes that could have gone to Hoffman, had he been the GOP candidate in the first place.
The RNC wasted almost 100,000 Dollars on Scuzzy attacks against Hoffman.
It is amazing that within a few weeks Hoffman came close to victory.
