I didn’t read through all the comments, and this may have been addressed, but look at NY-23 this way:

Dede really did us a favor. By putting her support behind the Democrat (Owens), she displayed what RINO’s are really all about...SCREWING THEIR OWN PARTY! Scazz has effectively blown the cover of RINO’s!

The silence from McCain and Graham is deafning!

“The MSM is spining the one victory of democrats as the only race.”

Didn’t the Dems pick up another congressional seat in CA. as well.

There hasn’t been a Democrat in that seat for 100 years. It’s never even been close. A lot of people just voted for Obama last year who would otherwise never vote Dem.

Steele should immediatly resign.

There is no leadership at the RNC.

There is no leadership at the RNCC.

There is no leadershipa at the NY23 GOP Club.

Conservatives who supported Hoffman should purge NY23’s GOP club.

Worth a repost.

“the thing to do is regroup and unite around a single candidate for 2012 - maybe Hoffman, maybe another Conservative - and get the seat back.”

There is no getting the seat back! The NY RATS have already said that the district ( NY 23 ) will be eliminated by combining it with the surrounding districts. Even if Hoffman had won, the district is gone in 2010!

Why the RAT won... one factor might be that Scozza threw her endorsement to Owens, including her union affiliations, then painted Hoffman as waaay right. Next she was still on the ballot and scarfed up a critical 5% of the votes. Next, possibly, Owens made a fair case that Hoffman was “too conservative” for New York... which might be true. A NY republican is very different from a republican in say Va or Alabama. Since Scozza dropped out so close to the election, there was little time for Hoffman to woo her supporters. And perhaps there was case made that “outsiders” need to stay out of NY elections. That’s my opinion.

I don’t think it helped much that Hoffman looked and sounded more like Wally Cox, than he did Ronald Reagan ;-)

What happened in New York was a mess. it shouldn’t have gone down like it did. Hoffman should have been the candidate from the start not Dede.

I suspect the Dem coming out of the Rep closet played a major role in this.

It figures that that traitorous woman was still on the ballot so of course she would get some votes and of course those votes could have gone to Hoffman.

The majority of people in this district are liberal. Many conservatives have left this hell hole.

Owens will represent the 23rd for one year.

You're right, and that is GREAT news. He'll be a cornered rat trembling with fright, barely able to move for the next 12 months. The Democrats will try to shield him by putting him on some committees important to the district. But he still has to come out and vote for Obama's liberal agenda.

We have a time to find a large hungry conservative Republican cat to face him. Let's do this right and send him packing next November.

This election was just to fill the seat until next year. By the time November rolls around again even the brain dead voters of the 23rd will have had their fill of Democrats. There will be so many battles the Democrats will have to fight next year that they won’t be able to pour the money and resources into the NY-23 that they did this time. This seat will return to the Republicans in 12 months.

This may be a bit optimistic. Republicans have lost many traditionally Republican seats in New York in the past ten years and have regained none of them, whether metro or upstate. Incumbency is powerful, and the NYGOP comes up with poor candidates.

Romans 14:8
For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

Whether we win, we win unto the Lord; and whether we lose, we lose unto the Lord: whether we win therefore or lose we are the Lord's.
