As Gov. Paterson and legislative lead ers meet today to tackle a multibil lion-dollar budget shortfall, they should note a new report's warning: New Yorkers are fleeing in droves -- and it's wreaking havoc with the public fisc.
The report, by the Empire Center for New York State Policy, shows that some 1.5 million people left the state between 2000 and 2008 -- including 1.1 million from New York City alone.

This is all very well if you retire. But New York is the only place where large numbers of not exceptionally talented people make $200-500K a year.

It's the highest taxed state in the union. Leftists have been in charge for too long, and the state is dying. The left is running out of other peoples money.

Yes. I witnessed their exodus to the south where they began voting the same way that got them into the mess up there. Now they are ruining conservative spots in the south by overwhelming the land and then electing the same type of idiots they ran from, thus recreating New York in the south. It’s almost made me become prejudice toward anybody coming from north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Yes, indeed. They move to the triangel in C and then think, well, I can afford to pay higher taxes to “impove” the way they do things down here in Hicksville. They won’t leave until they have fouled their new nest!

I hear some old parts of the Berlin Wall are still for sale and they can erect them at border spots. Any NY tax payers who trys to move out will be shot.
They’re raising the cost of a fishing license from $19 to $29 next season. New York also ends the season on September 30th, making you buy 2 licenses in a year. Add a $10 stamp for each species you want to fish for and I am now considering just sitting on the bank with the diversity crowd, whom the DEC never checks for licenses.
Not to worry, they’ll pass a law making it illegal to leave the state. There, that should take care of the problem.
They will probably chase those who left the state for tax money like they did Rush.
Lots of the leftists in NYC go to New Jersey. That way, they can keep their jobs and commute. When they retire, they go to Florida.
The more Conservative people Upstate move to Pennsylvania and commute. When they retire, they stay there, or maybe vacation in Florida.
