Social Upheaval, How Close Are We?

Politics / Social Issues
Oct 24, 2009 - 02:33 AM
By: Michael_T_Bucci

Many authors who have contributed to The Market Oracle have expressed concern - some overtly and some in passing - about the possibility of social upheavals in the US caused by economic dislocations and what impact these events would have on the markets.
How close are we?
An excellent synopsis by Mr Andre Damon of the current status of economic conditions extant in the US and the world on the eve of the G20 conference contains a prescient conclusion: "These different factors set the stage for the inevitable eruption of open social conflict." Having written elsewhere this same conclusion and finding it raised by political writers both on the Left and Right using identical economic and social data and yardsticks, I firmly believe that open conflict MAY BE UPON US and needs only a small (or large, I believe) catalyst to erupt. Hopefully, this won't occur.

Regrettably, the American far-right has hijacked both the minds of workers who would otherwise galvanize behind self-defensive and pro-social agendas, and of Republican moderates and centrists; while the Democrats, Progressives and Left-leaners remain mesmerized and paralyzed in a residual stupor of Obamania (frozen in denial).
President Barrack Obama serves the purpose (knowingly or unknowingly) of neutralizing the center- to left-coalitions whereby the Bush agenda would and did continue without dissent; his administration, however, now is being drowned by assaults from the far-right (paraphrasing Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit's comments about the NPD) who are "daring to do things that endanger our democracy".

Many of these agenda-setters (along with gunners at Obama rallies) are seeking majority rule in 2010 when they should be sought for aiding and abetting insurrection and endangering the life of a President.
Republican moderates and centrists did not stop this momentum, but instead allowed extremists to control their party and vie for future control of America in what seems a "by any means possible" manner. These are critical times for this Democracy.

Sorry, but that’s only dealing with violent crimes, not burglary, auto theft, theft etc...Look at your own link.

One other thing, your link is for “America’s Safest Cities”, with car accidents, and work place accidents, natural disasters, etc., thrown in to the mix....I was speaking strictly about “crime rates”.

Me, personally?

I'm about 5.56mm away from social upheaval.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

I know but that was an overall safety rating including natural disaster risk. For this discussion it's the violent crime score that's pertinent. I think the cesspool of Detroit scored like a 46 in VC; the worst city on the list for VC or close to it.

I'll take my chances in DFW before Detroit thank you very much.

I think you’re right. None of the “Wolverines” here on FR will do jack when the New Order is complete, because no one is willing to do what it takes to stop it. Standing up to the New Order in any meaningful way means getting wacoed — and no one here on FR has the guts to take it as far as the Branch Davidians did.

My strategy now is to stay alive until the system collapses on its own — and it will. Even the Soviet Union eventually caved. I intend to build my family into a fortress of Christianity and Reason and outlast the bastards. When it all comes crashing down I — or my descendants — will emerge from the rubble and play their parts in the great Reconstruction of the West.
_____________

I commend you for having a strategy to defend you and yours in the coming days. I also believe you are correct in assuming that a collapse WILL come. THe United States — at least the large portion of it that are the “productive,” will not long stand for or easily accept the Socialist system being foisted upon them as it is right now.

However, I don’t forsee most of those good people who love peace starting any kind of violence. I’m quite sure that’s not the way it would happen. But one large, jolting event could start the ball rolling — and none of us would be able to stop it. We are one major terrorist attack, one major economic collapse, one act of force against American Citizens, from seeing those good, productive people say “NO MORE!”

Ideally, a national “Atlas Shrugged” day would be ideal. Or, perhaps the citizens of a couple of dozen states reasserting their Tenth Amendment rights, and nullifying Unconstitutional Federal laws and withholding Federal Tax revenues on the State level.

Unfortunately, I don’t think it will be that “ideal.” The more likely scenario is an economic collapse that brings the “Have Nots” out in droves to the Suburbs and the countryside to loot and pillage. Or perhaps the Feds even ordering the “Haves” to “share” with the “Have Nots” in some way. Or, perhaps the aforementioned terrorist attack or maybe a “pandemic.”

In any of those cases, can you imagine the good, solid, productive Americans NOT defending their families and fortunes? Can you really see them roll over and play dead? Just shrug and accept their fate? Some maybe — but by NO means ALL. I would hazard a guess and say, not even MOST.

In Red Dawn, the “Wolverines” weren’t looking for a fight. They didn’t ASK for their enemies to take over and start shooting. But when they did, the Wolverines responded in kind. I think some of us, deep inside, retain that kind of fighting spirit, that kind of conviction and determination that we will NOT let them do this to our country. We may have to be provoked. THEY may draw first blood. But WE THE PEOPLE, like the fictional Wolverines, and like our nation’s Founders, WON’T meekly surrender. And if it does come to that, no fortress you build will be able to hide you from the fight that ensues. You’ll either be all in — or on your knees. That’s the nature of the coming battle.

Exactly the correct strategy, you get it. All those folks loading up on Ammo and Guns are wasting thier time, better off Reading the "Word" and enjoying your time on earth with your family and so on, teaching your children about God and the right things of life ...

Yup, you know it. I'm way closer to the city than I like. I had a discussion tonight to maybe change that...first thought, rural Texas.

This is PRECISELY the same sort of self-delusion the USSR used to engage in. It created a paranoia based on projection.

Because the USSR wanted world domination, it projected that same motivation onto the USA, then reacted accordingly.

The Dems are FULL of self-deluding paranoids!

For example: Because the Dems lie and cheat to win elections, they presume that's how the Republicans STOLE the election of 2000. In their minds, this gives Dems further license to steal elections.

This kind of paranoia is dangerous, and it will end up getting out of hand.

Life is short on this planet in it’s current form, but life is eternal, if the US is stupid enough to go socialist then it simply will. I have my eyes on the eternal prize, and that isn’t the US ...

I've seen this sentiment expressed before. Do you really think God put us on this earth just to sit back and do nothing as evil takes over? Don't you think He expects us to do something?

I wouldn't bet the farm on that. I'd say there are a good number who are fully willing, but they do not tend to be the types to spout off on this website about it.

“Why do you think you can't buy ammo?”

Because paranoid kooks since last November have been buying far more than they would ever need in any realistic scenario and naïve, wannabe commodity traders have envisioned profiteering with their stockpiles. “Have been” is key. Responsible ammunition and components retailers across our country are now limiting the quantities of ammunition and primers to individual customers to enable a greater number of folks to buy what they need or desire. And the concept is working.

Have you checked your retail outlets lately? Primers are again readily available for $35.00/m. Most calibers of center fire handgun ammunition are again available, with notable exceptions of 380 Auto and 45 Auto. They are coming through the pipeline and will soon be available for you to squirrel away and brag about to like minded kooks. Do you believe that you can really sell that hoard for a profit?

The notable exception is rimfire ammunition. Due to its relatively low price, as compared to center fire ammunition, many more people can afford to purchase and hoard vast quantities of the stuff. It is thought than many hoarders opted for rimfire ammunition when they couldn’t find the center fire ammunition they desired. It too will soon become available in great quantities.

A kook hoarder recently bragged to me that he had over 70,000 primers in his stash. Since primers are useless without bullets, I asked him if he had 70,000 bullets. He sheepishly admitted that he did not - but if times got tough he “could cast lead bullets but one can’t make primers at home”. When asked if he had bullet casting equipment and supplies at home, he indicated he no longer wanted to discuss the subject.

So, suckers, keep buying more guns and ammunition products than you need. It helps the economy and takes the demand off items that I desire.

Government health care will pass, cap and trade will pass, we will simply become a socialist nation without even the “mere” whimper some talk about.

Are you French? Did you daddy welcome the Nazis into Paris in 1940 with drinks on the house?
