How Can Glenn Beck Be Right on So Much and Yet Still Believe the book of Mormon? (serious question)

Posted on 10/26/2009 7:51:02 AM PDT by Scythian

I'm a huge Beck fan, in fact I'm listening right now here

http://www.ksfa860.com/common/gap_streamer.php

but something really confuses me. It takes the ability to use real critical thinking to know what Beck (and most of us know about the state of the country and where we are heading). That is, we have the ability to discover the truth no matter how much the media or conventional wisdom try to hide it. Yet on Mormonism, Beck is cleary wrong. Any Christian knows that the book or momonism is severely flawed and that Joseph Smith was no prophet. How can Beck cut through all the chaff of what is going on in our world and come to the truth and yet believe the writings of Joseph Smith? It doesn't make sense? I'm not saying he's up to something secret, not by any means, it's just that he's so right about so many things and completely wrong on the most important thing. Now, he just said on the air that he believes Jesus is the Savior of the world and that he is Mormon.

I also think that because he is Mormon he is not attacked near as much if he was a Evangelical Bible only believer. Anyway, am I nutz or does Beck being a Mormon seem bizarre?

We offer a religion forum here on FR to debate the merits of the various sects. I suggest they use it instead of annoying everyone in the news forum. It always cracks me up how some of these idiots think they know more than anyone else in history about scripture. Sure have alot of geniuses around here.

How about answering the questions in my post 523? Who took this "survey" that you quote "We had 150 people at the phone bank making calls. We found one Protestant, some Catholics and 90% LDS people."

Or perhaps I did not see you because you were with my friend who visited the hispanic ministers in East LA. He has many friends there that helped with Prop 22. This time they said it would be political suicide (democrats had gotten to them) to encourage their congregations to cooperate on Prop 8. I just don’t know where you were so I can’t comment on your participation. Evangelicals are great people, but you have to work with each congregation, there is not a clear upper level management that can order troops into battle. They are very independent which is fine with me. I do not think you have to feel attacked because you organize differently than we do. You are great people. You do not have to hate us.

Why do you care if he’s Mormon? What happened to Freedom of Religion or does it only apply to Baptists these days?

At least Beck doesn’t go around with an obsession of condemning other people’s religions...

(Yeah, we know...he tithes to have Mormom minion missionaries do that for him...the typical Lds philosophy we hear: "Speak softly and carry a big Pearl of Great Price stick")

Definition of a 'big Pearl of Great Price stick':
"You Christian sects are 100% wrong;
100% apostates;
100% creedally putrid;
100% corrupt as either believers -- or, well at least your leaders/teachers;
...Signed: Cordially, your "nice" Mormon neighbor
P.S. "Of course, we'll be polite & use Lds missionary doorstep language like 'universal apostasy' instead of pointing our fingers right @ you..."
"...and we'll fund the outer darkness out of hundreds of different Pearl of Great Price translations which mention ALL of the above as supposedly 'representative' of what our god thinks of you...so our 'big stick' will seem once-removed..."
"...But make no mistake about it, we've sent out literally over 1 million Lds missionaries who've carried this 'Big Stick' around the world!!!"

"As I said, their relationships were contemporaneous. They knew him. They traveled with him. They wrote their memories and accounts of him down on paper. Flavius Josephus wrote historical references about him."

All that is known about those relationships is what is written in the gospels and as noted, those accounts are not contemporaneous. And the apostles are not known to have written them.

It's not all that different from Mohammed.

"And don't drag wikipedia into a discussion of Jesus. Come on."

I'm not citing Wikipedia as an authority, I'm pointing to an article that simply explains the facts, which happen to be correct.

People, like you, who refuse to see the real enemies, are destined to be destroyed by them. We’re being invaded by foreign nationals by the millions, turning us into another 3rd world socialist dump and YOU are worried about Mormons. Insane.

Publana, why do you care about Scythian's religious vantage point as stated on this thread? What happened to Scythian's Freedom of Religious expression, or does it apply to self-appointed ThreadMasters who loom over posters and imply, "How dare you post such a thing!"

"...the apostles are not known to have written them."? Huh? Oh, really? Says who(m)? And Paul didn't write the epistles? You're either retarded or insane.

You can't try to parse your way out of your nonsensical posts or win the argument by changing what I said. And I notice you ignored my Josephus reference.

A former Muslim and scholar of Islam could find no evidence that Mohammed ever existed. That "some people say Jesus never existed", has nothing to do with anything.

“Scary that some ‘conservatives’ work so hard to destroy that”

I have mused here whether they even are “Conservatives” or not. I know for a fact there are “plants” here from the other side.

Their obsessive/compulsive behavior & their uncanny knowledge & use of the liberal playbook (misrepresentations, distortions, out of context, lies, all in a very familiar way to Conservatives) certainly makes one go hmmmm. Trojan horse? I would be inclined to think not, but I do wonder.

Regardless, the end goal seems to be the same......Divide! There is often nothing unifying or Conservative in their posts what so ever. Looking at their posting histories, one concludes that they can go weeks on end without doing anything here but bash the LDS faith w/ hundreds of posts, nothing else.

I for one, can't even imagine that kind of life, but it is what it is. All that negativity for fellow Conservatives? They interpret the scriptures as giving them license to do what they do, & do what they do in the name of the Lord. I imagine the Lord isn't too pleased (IMHO). I know most Conservatives here aren't!

I'm sorry, but I've never seen "foreign nationals" as "the enemy," nor are Mormons/cultists "the enemy." The New Testament says we fight not against flesh & blood. No human is our "enemy."

Many of those "foreign nationals" you're talking about are here legally. Many of those "foreign nationals" you're talking about are our ancestors.

And just because those who come here illegally give a negative reputation to foreign-born folks doesn't give you the right to talk smack about them all as if they were all "invading...destroyers!"

It's ethno-warfare attitudes like yours that keeps the conservative movement from extending new veins among our legal immigrants.

As for Mormons, our discussions about ultimate spiritual aspects doesn't keep...
...Lds and Christian Boy Scout leaders from working together on behalf of our youth;
it doesn't stop us from working together @ food pantries to feed the poor;
and it doesn't stop us from working together to protect marriage.

Just because Mormons flatly label me as an "apostate" -- even though I was never a member of their church;
just because Mormons label ALL of my creeds as putrid;
and just because Mormons claim my church is "unjoinable" doesn't prevent me from linking arms with Lds to defend conservative principles, protect families, and nurture children in this country.

So get over your felt need to shield the Mormons from spiritual realities! Believe me, most Mormons I know are mature enough to handle dialogues, discussions, and debates -- even intense ones! Start giving them more credit for being able to engage in these things 'cause otherwise your attitude and too many other FReepers amounts to an awful lot of patronizing and treating them like children!

I would encourage you to stop patronizing your fellow Mormons as too immature to engage in open dialogue. By reinforcing AuntB’s comments, all that I said about Mormons in post #553 applies to you, too.

Ranting & raving are “mature, open dialog” to you? I have had “dialog” w/ you on several occasions. I have found very little that resembled maturity on your part, nor a willingness to conduct a civil, reasoned discussion.

Look at your posting history girl. The VAST majority of your posts deal in bashing LDS. What do you ever do here to advance the Conservative movement? You advance your agenda & nothing else, & at times, at the expense of the movement. Are you proud of that? Actually, don't answer that.

I don't know whether you were jilted by an ex-LDS lover or what, but the anger you exhibit has got to be eating you up inside. Take a break girl. Get some help. I sincerely pray for you. Let go of whatever happened. Forgive. Be happy.

Just because Mormons flatly label me as an “apostate”
_______________________________________

It wasnt that long ago that mormons were murdering non-mormons ...

And swearing blood oaths to shed the blood of non-mormons in their “temple ceremonies”

Attrocities by mormons such as the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 120+ innocent men, women, children and babes in arms, the Bear River Massacre, and Circleville come to mind...

At Circleville, where a lot of women and children were murdered, mormons chopped the heads of their victims and hung them on posts...

Just cause they werent mormons...

Tell us, Reno, re: the 60,000 Lds missionaries out & about labeling all Christians as "apostates" and daughters & sons & granddaughters & grandsons of "apostates"...what are they doing door-to-door for two full years that advances the Conservative movement?

Aren't they fostering intensified division by talking about a "universal apostasy?"
How inspiring is it for Christians to read that Mormons like yourself embrace 100% of our creeds as an "abomination?" Or that our Christian churches are supposedly unjoinable per Joseph Smith?

Why is it Lds can call me an apostate, call our leaders "corrupt," and tell others that their "Word" says our churches are unjoinable -- and that doesn't keep me from working together with Lds in the conservative movement -- but somehow the reverse can't be done?

If Christians don't take any of the Lds "scriptures" personally to let it keep them from working with Mormons on behalf of families, etc., then why do you imply that Mormons can't do the same in reverse?

What barriers to Lds have today that Christians haven't had since the 1830s in working with Lds?
