Rep. Bart Stupak (D.-Mich.) told CNSNews.com yesterday that he has organized a group of about 40 likeminded Democrats who will vote to kill the health-care bill if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) does not allow a floor vote on his amendment to prohibit federal funds from going to insurance plans that cover abortion.
Under Stupaks plan, the approximately 40 Democrats in his camp would join with all House Republicans in voting to defeat the special House rule that would set the terms for debating and amending the health-care bill on the House floor when it is brought up for a final vote. If a majority of the House does not first vote to approve this rule, the health-care bill itself cannot be brought to the floor.
We will try towe, theres about 40 likeminded Democrats like myselfwell try to take down the rule, Stupak told CNSNews.com. If all 40 of us vote in a bloc against the rulebecause we think the Republicans will join uswe can defeat the rule. The magic number is 218. If we can have 218 votes against the rule, we win.
If you hold all 40 of your guys, how many votes do you have? asked CNSNews.com.
About 220, said Stupak.
So, youve got a two-vote margin there? asked CNSNews.com
Correct, said Stupak.
If Stupaks bloc of Democrats holds together against a rule, Stupak said, They cannot bring the bill to the floor.

Hey!
Democrats AND Republicans.
I'll take a Stupak over tem thousand Snowes any day.
Thanks for the ping. I pray these 40 Democrats stick with it and maybe more!
Oh you! Got me LOLing, you did
Hell, I doubt we could get 40 Republicans to do that. Either way, it has to die.
Now comes the “cordinated excuse” wagon when this doesn’t pass. Like demoRATS bailing from a sinking ship.
(Joker voice) “And here we.........go!!!”
And if Pelosi, for instance, is a tyrannical twit for saying she can pass it without Republicans, then we are worse than imbeciles if we think we can block it without Democrats.
Good news bump.
Most democrats in his district are yellow dog, social conservative retirees, government workers, Chippewa, or in the paper industry.
The abortion issue is one I actually appreciate Rep. Stupak on. I don’t think he’ll ever vote in a pro-death way.
Thanks for the ping!
I guess this will be ‘put up, or shut up’ time for all those supposedly pro-life Democrats who were elected in 2006 and 2008.
They’re not feeling enough heat because they’re still messin’ with this POS bill! None of it should be considered! We’re lowering the bar of our standards if we think it’s a victory to get the paid abortion portion removed. Big f’n deal.
“Stupak: If no Pro-Life Amendment, About 40 Likeminded Democrats Will Vote to Kill Health Bill”
...yaaaay for Stupak!~sarc He’s here to save the day!!!~sarc My hero!~sarc...this a%%hole sure thinks a lot of himself! Believes his constituents will vote him back in because he’s here to “save the babies”, “save the taxpayer”, whatever other horse squeeze he wants us to believe. Vote Stupak OUT!!!
BTTT
Listen here buttface! You are presumptuous in your posts to both myself and Mrs. D-ono in thinking that we are “happy” and accepting of this result. How dare you imply that? We want no government run health care period!
Wow, good for Stupak. Can we exchange her for Snowe and a ham sandwich?
Stupak is a he not a she. There are no women named Bart!
