Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

Then how did he get in it? I came late to the thread so didn’t read from the beginning.
They are reporting that some people “thought” they saw something fall out of it. We’ll just have to wait and see.

They said it was cardboard..the container. I dont think cardboard can support 30 pounds. They are saying if he jumped, he would have had to do it in seconds.

Maybe...maybe not. Because no one knows where he is at this minute. He could be anywhere.
It’s sounding a bit more suspicious as time goes on.
Don't forget we have adults who need to be disciplined, like parents for instance. The parents of this kid are not tightly wrapped.

At least it looks like the land there has already been harvested and plowed. Because that field is about to be trampled!
The family who was on Wife Swap was bizarre at best. Neglectful at worst. I remember that episode - my husband thought it had to be staged b/c they were so strange. They put their children in extreme and dangerous situations and lived a very “hippie” style life. Very few rules or boundaries. The ‘other’ wife who lived with them was very unhappy and concerned with the kids’ safety.

Hoax? The family are media hogs...appeared on “Wife Swap”..painted their cocker spaniel purple, etc.

As Lady Jag pointed out, there is a hatch or a door in the lower portion.

Apparently his brother reported seeing him get in the balloon. Wasn’t in it when it landed. Now the questions are: Is this a spoof by the kids. Did the child fall out early on as there aren’t any reports of anyone seeing him fall. Did the older brother accidently let the balloon loose and is blaming his younger brother. Other possiblities exist. So hoping that the child is safe and not harmed in any way.

My 4 year old would do that in a minute. Have to chain her down.
