Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

Their jobs? This is a conservative forum! The CPS have WAY too much authority and no accountability. I wouldn’t wish them on my worst enemy! I think that CPS should be done away with. There is NO evidence that these people are abusing their kids. Being a bad parent isn’t reason enough.

Does anyone know that the kids were doing home on a school day? Are they home schooled, were the sick, or school holiday, etc?

Thank goodness. Poor kid probably thought he was in trouble for letting the balloon go, and had no idea people thought he was aboard.

I couldn’t disagree more. Every child is in danger because of the nature of being a child. Out of impatience my son threw open the door to our van and almost stepped out in front of a car yesterday. My husband was right there! Do you think we should be investigated?
The dad was home working on this project with his children. He went inside, maybe for a drink, maybe to use the bathroom. There are LOTS of children that come home to empty houses after school everyday. You want CPS investigating you if your child has to stay at home for 10 minutes alone because you got caught in traffic. CPS is serious business and a huge violation of our rights to privacy. ONLY in cases of physical and sexual abuse should CPS have any authority.

I have participated in such searches of homes where only after more detailed and successive searches have found the “missing” child hiding under a pile of clothes in a closet.
