Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

Would you describe your area as suburban or rural/farm land?
Looks like it is an exponential decay so figure .5kg. IT would not be able to get very high.
Larimer County Sherriff’s department is doing picture enhancement on the picture “speck” - they are pretty sure that Falcon climbed into the battery compartment box. The box is still attached. The brothers said that Falcon climbed into the box and then the balloon took off. Falcon was wearing a blue shirt and blue pants. They have searched the house and the neighborhood with no positive results.
He’s been found!!! At the house!!!
The boy’s alive
He’s been found alive!!!!!!!!!!
Sheriff just reporting this on the news. He was informed during his press conference. At the home.
No need to.
Just take accurate measurements and use some math, bingo.
Your way would be more fun, though
He’s at the house they just said!
Im very confident we will find him. I think its a matter of him being a little scared, she said. Maybe hes not ready to be found.
That is the scenario for which I'm hoping and praying.
Falcon has been found at the house alive!
It looked like they were trying to kill a giant python or something...seemed amateurish to me.
WOOO HOOO!
maybe that was the attached “box” they said was on the balloon.
“The desperate child jumped
google maps shows a reservoir (pretty good sized) sse of the home.. maybe a mile or so...??????????????”
I could easily see a child thinking a body of water would cusion the fall. Cartoon physics and all that.
Off course, it would not (not enough, anyway).
Me too Jewbacca (btw, yours is my favorite moniker on FR. Makes me laugh everytime.)
I was listening to Hannity the whole show.
Not ONE of the callers had any clue about what they were saying.
One of them multiplied the 20ft x 6ft... and said “120 cubic feet couldn’t lift a child”...
That is true... but he forgot to multiply by 20 again (approx) so his answer was way off.
Others were thinking it was a hot-air balloon, since that is what Sean kept saying. True: that size a hot air balloon could never lift that much, but it is HELIUM.
If I could have gotten through, I would have been MUCH more capable of giving a reasonable guess at things than any of those.
This WAS EASILY able to lift a boy. And, unfortunately, it seems to have done so.
Radio chatter says he’s been found safely at home.
