Sima Samar, women's rights activist in Afghanistan: "With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women's Affairs."
Ingrid Betancourt: French-Colombian ex-hostage held for six years.
"Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence."
Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition: "These organizations are recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped upon."
"Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for 'inciting subversion of state power.'"
"Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system. He now lives in the United States."
Since I do not pay attention to the workings of this bunch I do not know what their rules are. Who submitted BamaKennedy and when did ‘they’ submit BamaKennedy’s name? HOW proud old Teddy would be today to see his younger brother be so honored. (only slight sarcasm)
It is sure interesting for somebody who just appeared on this earth with no official documentation from birth to the US Senate to be given all these global acknowledgments for just being.
True-true, but it has to be Al Gore getting one that really chaps his hide.
The great grifter was outgrifted by a jackass scammer.
Now that had to severely torque'em off. LOL
I’m sure he didnt.
However, the award was devalued when Al Gore got it two years back.
Is it true that you must apply for the nobel peace prize? in other words your name is submitted, otherwise you are not elected.
My point, the deadline for nominations was the second week of february?
This is as big a joke as Time’s man of the year.
I wonder what Tom Sowell is going to say about this?
This inquiring mind wants to know who nominatd the zero in the firat place.
Oh That’s right, He has to go to Oslo in December to accept...that will cost 10 times more than the bloody prize!
Over our dead bodies.
“”Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China’s communist system. He now lives in the United States.”
I hope he can tell the difference.
Wow! What an impressive list of accomplishments that were ignored.
Great is their reward in heaven.
That, and somebody (like Alfred Nobel's heirs --- are there any?) should go to some International Court sue the pants off the Nobel Committee for common fraud.
“There ought to be a counter-prize for those upright and honorable men and women who actual labored through the heat of the day and the long dark nights, sacrificed, risked their lives, and accomplished much for peace and human rights.
Great is their reward in heaven.”
bttt
Good things come in small packages. ;)
Look at all the good the monitary reward could have done. Yes Obama said his money would go to charity....Just look at the charity that owns Rahm_e house and you’ll see his ilks idea of charity.
Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Sima Samar would have called attention to the importance of WINNING in Afghanistan.
Why did they give it to Barry? I think Rush nailed it. They did it so that Barry would find it impossible to send troops to Afghanistan or to bomb the nuke facilities in Iran. It was a brilliant political manipulation. We’ll see if it worked. The prize itself is forever devalued.
Embarrassed? What for? He should be used to having offices and prizes he has no business being awarded.
Neville Chamberlain...
