The Yamal Implosion
September 29, 2009
There is a great deal of excitement among climate sceptics over Steve McIntyre's recent posting on Yamal. Several people have asked me to do a layman's guide to the story in the manner of Caspar and the Jesus paper. Here it is.
The story of Michael Mann's Hockey Stick reconstruction, its statistical bias and the influence of the bristlecone pines is well known. McIntyre's research into the other reconstructions has received less publicity, however. The story of the Yamal chronology may change that.

So AGW is a crock of sh*t?! “Surprise, surprise,” as Gomer would say.
Apparently the whole concept of peer review is staggeringly different between Climatology and other hard sciences. How is it possible that the actual dataset was withheld for almost ten years and even when finally presented (because the Royal Society has a much more rigorous publication requirement than some other journals) a good bit of the metadata was still withheld?
This is a major scandal. Even if AGW is subsequently vindicated (doubtful, IMHO) clearly the books were cooked with regards to this particular researchers whole career.
Hey Steve, thanks for posting this important story.
I’m going to go to the link to read the rest, but for future reference, remember that you can post excerpts up to 300 words on FR.
It really helps if we readers can get the meat of the story without having to click through to the source (not that I mind, if an article is really excellent).
Thanks again.
The amount of work he's done is truly incredible, and he deserves the Medal of Freedom.
Come on, Freepers. Get the facts, and get confident. This Emperor has no clothes, and we need to stop this UN power grab as much or more than the Health Care nonsense.
If you can't handle the math, start with the guy who started the Weather Channel, over at ICECAP.US
This war is a long way from over.
Don’t be so sure. A LOT of Freepers are regular followers of CA. And Andy Watts. CA tends to be a bit technical, but for us tech types, its math porn.
After all, I, too, have been a Freeper since nearly the beginning of Jim's project.
Nevertheless, it seems to me that opposition to "anthropogenic global warming" (AGW) is not yet as focused as it should and could be, most likely due to (1.) a profound, incessant drumbeat by the alarmists and their Fools among the fashion police, and (2.) a shortage of those translating, and then writing and disseminating, the many excellent fact-based rebuttals.
It's not yet enough just to dislike Al Gore and the preening progressives, especially our "president," who have succeeded in making of empirical science a tool of partisan politics, shameless greed, and power and rent-seeking behavior.
Since the tide has turned, primarily because of the fact-checkers and the courage among those who have laid their reputations on the line to oppose the Hockey Team and the UN, those of us who understand the facts of the situation owe it to them to help get the word out, also.
I think we will know we have really turned the full corner when Al Gore, and especially Socialist Democrats wielding political power, like our "president," start to become fearful of being exposed as clowns, frauds and fools.
We will know we have made real progress when Republicans start to fear parroting the UN's ridiculous talking points. (I won't use John McCain as an example since I doubt reason and facts would move him to examine the facts, but there are Republicans who would welcome some political will to help foster their growing "a couple.")
And we are SO CLOSE, far closer than I would have imagined possible two years ago. (Thank God for the prolonged Solar Minimum and the evidence of "climate change" (really, just "climate") elsewhere in the solar system, etc.
We will have turned a corner when news like "Cherry-picking of historic proportions" rates more than 50 comments when posted here on FR. That's as excellent and accurate a measure of political progress as any principled Conservative could hope for.

I seem to recall reading an article about how there were hundreds of factors that affect climate and the model tracked less than 12 or so.
This issue is totally political and no amount of truth and statistics correction and credibility will have any effect on the socialists who are using this fairy tail to bring us a command economy and minute social control.
