Oh yeah, like Obama is going to actually use it. When considering what you can expect from Obama, start with the question, “What would Jimmy Carter do?”

The MOAB is not a bunker buster. That was a Fuel-Air Explosive.
A bunker buster is large, thick cylinder of high grade steel (some examples used in Iraq were made from old 8” naval gun barrels) filled with high explosives and equipped with guidances systems. Some have rockets to increase penetration.
They’re designed hit hard and to survive penetrating meters of rock and concrete before they detonate. They are actually a lot more complex than the MOAB.

The MOAB is an airburster...it detonates above ground and is for use against conventional military targets (i.e. troop formations, military bases, factories, etc.). This is designed specifically to to go after dug in, underground facilities, and will bury itself up to 180 feet into dirt, rock, concrete, etc. before detonating.

Love the Rods from God concept. Having a tungsten telephone pole dropped on your facility can really ruin your day.

I know it’s Debka and I hope to think that someone in this administration doesn’t have their head up their ass and might actually do something about this, but my comfort level that this is true is not that high.

When the first bunker buster bombs arrived in theater during the first Gulf War against Saddam, the bombs were still hot to the touch because the explosive had not cooled yet.

But they worked just fine.

Yes, Bush told Obama about this during the transition. Bush knew about it for some time and actually warned publicly that Iran was in violation without revealing the facility, but we were treated to such headlines as "Bush Levels Dubious Iran Nuclear Arms Charge" and "Report contradicts Bush on Iran nuclear program" and the most outrageous "Is the Bush Administration Planning a Nuclear Holocaust?". Now, I am already seeing "it's Bush's fault, he did nothing while Iran built nuclear weapons" arguments on other forums, while praises of Obama are being sung from the rafters.

This is why we need to capture and mine a small asteroid.

Fill reentry vehicles with rock and drop them from high elliptical orbits.

The Iranians, NKs, et al, can’t bury their stuff deep enough to survive a 100 ton penetrator.

Asteroid material makes this feasible because the launch costs of putting thousand of tons in Earth orbit is a lot more.

This is the new and improves MOAB. This one has a better penetration and a different blast pattern. Of course that has to do with the rock formation. Theoretically, this one produces more destructive shock waves to make new sand out of existing rock.

What was that a 1,000 or 2,000 lb ordinance?? From what I understand, the new bunker buster is 1/3 penetration shielding and a delay that can be tuned that will detonate the other 2/3 of the weight which is all BOOM! That is 10 tons of BOOM! That one is ther one I hope they film.

If the Iranians want nukes so bad, why don’t we give them a few?

Sorry to say they have the year wrong. It was not advanced but delayed after Obama took office claiming funding problems. To quote one article, "Funding delays and enhancements to the planned test schedule have pushed the capability availability date to December 2010." If I remeber all my facts correctly, it was actually delayed because funding was delayed by President Obama using the funds for something else not even Pentagon related.

It is foolish to pin all your hopes and defensive strategy (which Obama does not have in place) on a single, advanced penetrating bomb! Military technology is fantastic when used properly but to use it as the so-called “ultimate” answer to the entire Iranian NBC program is absurd.
One must assume that Obama will threaten to use it, oh, sometime around December 2012 by the time that Iran will be working on her 23rd atomic bomb. Then, in a Clintonian manner, the world will just yawn like they did with the North Koreans. the real question is what Israel may/may not do eons BEFORE Obama finishes his 18th hole!

Actually, he might sell the bombs to Iran for money to give to the unions and GM
