Maybe not a flurry, maybe just one of something terrible, but I say "yes."

I doubt the feds are going on holiday this weekend.

“Enemies within: America must face the threat posed by homegrown terrorists”
EDITORIALS

Saturday, September 26th 2009, 4:00 AM

SNIPPET: “Homegrown terror, so lightly dismissed by so many for so long, is sprouting perilously from American soil. Najibullah Zazi, indicted this week on charges of plotting an Al Qaeda bomb strike, is the terrifying face of a strain of radical, violent Islam within the U.S.

His case history documents how terrorists can fade into the fabric of the country’s pluralistic population and how easily they can fashion explosives out of readily available products.

But Zazi is not alone:”

Three judges take a pass on trying terror suspect Najibullah Zazi’s case (Cowards?)
NY Daily News ^ | 9/26/09 | John Marzulli

It was the case nobody wanted.

Three federal judges balked at handling Najibullah Zazi’s case after they were randomly assigned by a courthouse computer, the Daily News has learned.

Nina Gershon, Carol Amon and Sandra Townes all declined to take the case on Wednesday - a day before the indictment charging Zazi with planning a bomb attack was made public.

They are not required to give an explanation, but according to federal law, the judges have the right to step aside if their “impartiality might reasonably be questioned.”

“It’s extraordinarily unusual,” said a criminal defense lawyer who has handled terrorism-related cases.

Not really.

It could be they have relatives in one of the agencies or have other concerns.

“U.S. terror suspect visited family in Canada: report”
Updated Sat. Sep. 26 2009 10:34 PM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

SNIPPET: “Terrorism suspect Najibullah Zazi travelled to Canada on at least one occasion, according to published reports, including a visit to his grandmother in Ontario.”

SNIPPET: “According to his aunt, Zazi travelled to Canada “a year or two ago” to visit his grandmother in Mississauga for a few days.”

SNIPPET: “The revelations come after U.S. authorities told a Denver court Friday that they were investigating reports that Zazi made several trips north of the border, where he may have tried to organize a terror cell in Canada.”

SNIPPET: “”The word ‘several’ is important in this because it shows that he travelled into the country on a number of occasions, and that’s going to be very worrying both to the authorities in Canada and in the United States,” Workman said.”

SNIPPET: “U.S. prosecutor Tim Neff told a federal judge that Zazi was in the middle of making a bomb when he was apprehended by U.S. authorities.

U.S. authorities allege they found handwritten bomb-making instructions on Zazi’s computer, and they believe three accomplices helped him buy bomb-making items and may be at large.

Zazi’s indictment stipulates that he was trained to make explosives in Pakistan by members of al Qaeda.”

SNIPPET: “Prosecutors have alleged that the bombs were to be detonated on New York City commuter trains on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.”

“Good Week for U.S. Counterterrorism Efforts
But more terrorists involved in disrupted plots may be on the loose and still intent on carrying out an attack.”

September 26, 2009 - by Rusty ShacklefordPage 1 of 2 Next ->

SNIPPET: “This has been a big week on the counterterrorism front. The plots revealed this week serve as an important reminder that the war against violent political Islam is being fought right here, right now.

First, some mixed news. In the wake of the indictment against an Afghan immigrant named Najibullah Zazi, who received bomb-making training from al-Qaeda, law enforcement agents are still busy looking for possible accomplices.

A detainment motion made by the attorney general’s office against Zazi mentions that he “and others flew … to Peshawar, Pakistan.” It was in Pakistan that Zazi attended an al-Qaeda training camp and learned how to construct bombs.

While unstated, the implication is that Zazi did not go to these camps alone.

This is further alluded to in the detainment motion, which describes at least three other people in Colorado who were helping Zazi buy the materials necessary to make bombs.

As of this writing, several dozen Paksitani and Afghan immigrants have been questioned by the FBI. Only two have been arrested, although they have not been formally charged. Zazi’s father and an imam named Ahmad Wais Afzali, who tipped Zazi off that the FBI were investigating him, have only been accused of lying to federal investigators. Both arrests may be significant, but these two may have only obstructed the investigation. They have not been accused of being involved in the actual plot.

Which means that others involved may be on the loose and still intent on carrying out an attack.”

Feds: Zazi trips, shopping led to NY terror threat

(snip)

Many questions about charges that Zazi became a terrorist over the past year — and who was helping him — remain unanswered. Prosecutors refer to “others” who accompanied him on an August 2008 flight to Pakistan for terrorism training, by which time he had come to authorities’ attention, and who shopped with him in Aurora, Colo., for chemicals that could be turned into bombs. But neither accomplices nor explosives has turned up; Zazi’s father and a Queens imam face charges only of lying to terrorism investigators, and they deny the allegations.

(snip)

Over a few months in early 2008, Zazi opened dozens of credit card accounts and racked up thousands of dollars in debt, according to court records, making purchases at Macy’s, Radio Shack and Best Buy, among others. He filed for bankruptcy with more than $50,000 in debt in March, a couple of months after leaving the city for Denver.

(snip)

On Sept. 6, Zazi took some of his products into a Colorado hotel room, outfitted with a stove on which he later left acetone residue, authorities said. He repeatedly sought another person’s help cooking up the bomb, “each communication more urgent in tone than the last,” the papers said.

Jet halted at LAX; two men are removed by police
LA Times ^

Posted on Monday, September 28, 2009 1:53:13 PM by mnehring

A plane was stopped from taking off from Los Angeles International Airport, and two men on board were taken into custody, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. LAPD Lt. John Romero said the men, who appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent, were acting suspiciously. A law enforcement source said at least one of the men ran into a restroom on the plane and appeared to hide while the New York-bound jet was taxiing on the runway, according to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing. The flight crew confronted the two men and made the decision to stop the plane before it took off, the source said. The men were taken into custody by heavily armed law enforcement officials. The plane has been taken to a remote area of the airport to be searched by a bomb squad, sources said. The LAPD’s anti-terrorism unit and the FBI are on the case, but the source said it’s too early to tell whether terrorism played any role in the incident. FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said that she was aware of only one person being detained for questioning after the person failed to comply with airline safety regulations and directions of the crew.
