Colorado: Parents win against Obama Propaganda. Here is how they FORCED a student Opt-out 4 9/8/09

Posted on 09/03/2009 7:51:53 AM PDT by steve0

The purpose of this thread is to secure a commitment from each local Principal to provide an opt-out so that no one is forced to endure Obama's subtle, presumptuous speech. Below, I will provide a sample of reasonable letters we want the Principal to sign. If refused, we know where they stand and will take the appropriate action against them. Here is an article of how they roll in Colorado. http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/09/douglas_county_school_allows_p.php It would be useful if the only comments on this thread are how to do this, report your results and contact information for the press to report and follow-up on.

Yeah a win for the kids! I just talked to Dr. Ringstaff. The Superintendent will announce an opt-out policy for Virginia High School and maybe even the whole district. This will likely be communicated by email and letter. I asked them to announce it on their website, considering there is little time for parent's to take note of this issue and make their choice. When Ronald Reagan addressed America's students following the Challenger crash, was that a bad thing? When George H.W. Bush had a nationwide student address on drugs, was that a bad thing?

The world has changed. There was a time when people could put partisanship asside and recognize that the president as their leader deserving of respect, even if they disagreed with his politics.

Sadly, that time has passed. Politics and leadership can no longer be separated. Partisanship can never by any longer put asside. IMHO it started with the way the left incessastly attacked president Bush. What they have wrought cannot be undone, and this is the result.

Ronald Reagan addressed the nation. In this context, he also had a non-political reason for addressing a specific message to students regarding Christa McAuliffe.

Completely appropriate.

I am stunned by the fact that I called the high school in my town and found out they were not even aware of any of this pending Obomafication!! It is a very small town [under 3000] but I would think at least one teacher would have been online yesterday for the news...even if they are all Libs.

Personally, I think this is wrong. He is the president.

Do you recall when a school somewhere NOrtheast canceled their band’s appearance before President Bush because the prinicipal a democrat thought it was political?

He’s the president, he can do what he wants. It’s a free country. The schools also are public.

UPDATE: I just called the local liberal press(endorsed Deeds) an they just matter of factly said thanks for letting them know. I am sure they will cover the issue. But instead of "Odogma tries to bypass parents and politicize local schools" it will be billed as: "Racist nut jobs go nuts after Obama just wanted to encourage kids to stay in school and be there best" BTW: Yes I addressed that in my letter to Dr. Ringstaff.

Just got this email from my daughter’s elementary school (Cy-Fair ISD in Northwest Houston):

“President Obama will deliver a national address to students on the importance of education. The address will take place on September 8, 2009 at 12:00 EST (11:00 a.m. our time). Due to lunch, recess, large group, etc., we will not be stopping instruction to broadcast the speech live.

This is the first time an American president has spoken directly to the nation’s students about persisting and succeeding in school. We, at xxx, do feel that this is an important event and encourage students and parents to watch the president’s speech at home.”

So at least I know I won’t have to keep my daughter home.

We’re on our way to Mao’s “Great Leap Forward”. This amounted student gangs humiliating—or worse— adults for imagined offenses against the Dear Leader.

IMHO Onada and his crowd of Marxist thugs are premature in their use of these tactics. A sufficient number of Americans have not been dumbed down and propagandized yet.

At least the middle school had heard about the pending Obomination and ‘claimed’ they were not making it mandatory for a student to watch, but a student would be marked absent if not at school that day!

I just got an email reply back from my son’s first grade teacher:

“Yes, first grade is planning on watching this. We will tie it into our Civics unit for Social Studies, in which we are learning about being responsible.”

Well, I am debating on whether to yank my son out for that day or to ask for permission to sit in class. If my request is denied, I will pull him out for that day anyway.

Thank you Obama for yet another opportunity to get new people involved and informed about your kooky policy goals. Why would you think this could be good for your pols just off the heels of your summer Waterloo?

Have no doubt that the kids who choose not to be propagandized WILL be singled out. It’s the way the left works. Failing persuasion, which they can rarely do outside their own little group of cultists, they always resort to coercian.

Back in 1992 or so, one of my sons began his college career at Miami U, of Ohio. He had to attend the mandatory PC orientation. One student said he wasn’t interested in being told what to think. He was shouted down. My son stood up and said that although he was saying things the PC crowd didn’t like, he had every right to speak his mind.

When my son returned to his room, someone had drawn a swastica on his door. Otherwise, these PC people are really nice, caring folks.

I don't defend Obama. I loath him and will do whatever I can to defeat his legislative agenda, as well as his candidacy in 2012.

That is entirely consistent with my efforts at debunking idiotic conspiracy theories about his eligibility that do nothing except make his opponents look stupid.

Here is the letter that I just sent to the administration and faculty of our local School District:

This is vitally important. I will be expecting a reply from each addressee on this email. Regarding President Obama’s address to the nation’s students…

I trust you will continue with your PLANNED lessons and activities on Tuesday, September 8th. I have an expectation that each and every day’s lesson plans are part of the overall curriculum required to complete the school year. Otherwise the school year would be shortened. I also trust my children’s lunch period will not be disrupted by airing the speech in the cafeteria.

The planned address by President Obama would disrupt this schedule, interfering with the education of my children. I have examined the menu of activities published by the U.S. Department of education and find it totally inappropriate to compel students to listen to the speech and participate in these activities. The President does not have the academic credentials to teach any Elementary or High School lesson. In fact, his academic performance is a mystery since he has never released his grades from High School or College. He has never released his graded writings or thesis papers that led to the conference of his degrees. He is unqualified to speak to the subject of setting academic goals since he has never stated how he set academic goals and plans, and how he achieved them (and how his grades reflected those goals).

It is also no small thing that President Obama has admitted to using illegal drugs including marijuana in his youth. This well known fact can provide these impressionable teens the rationale that they too could engage in these destructive activities and still achieve their academic goals.

If you insist on using the taxpayer funded facility to require students to listen to a partisan political speech and directed activities (the “Menu of Classroom Activities” is political), then you have quite a dilemma on your hands. Parents like me, will not consent to our children participating in this activity because of the concerns stated above. You must set up a separate facility within the school for these children and provide appropriate academic activities to keep them engaged (I am also requesting you publically release the lesson plan for these activities). The other side of this coin is that these children will be separated from their peers and some division will naturally occur where there wasn’t any before. Some of the activities specify that the children create posters and such that will be posted in the classroom or hallways, since my children will not participate in that activity they will be unduly subject to political peer pressure.

If you insist that all students at school that day must participate in the President’s lecture and activities, it will be necessary to keep my children home. Therein lies another dilemma for you. My children will not be sick and therefore it could be a classified as an unexcused absence. Will such an absence be held against my child in ANY way? That is a question that must be answered.

I believe a fine alternative for parents who wish to participate in this event is for them to keep THEIR children at home and watch the speech and do the specified activities with their child. That way no parent will be denied the academic exercises that they choose for their child. I choose the academic exercises in each subject area that are part of the curricula defined for this academic year.

As I mentioned; I expect (as a tax paying parent entrusting the education and care of my children to this school district) that each addressee will respond to this email. I have seen the talking points that have been released by the National Education Association, and hope you will not resort to such “canned” statements.

I will release this as an open letter to the media, but I will not release the names of the addressees. I ask that you extend the same courtesy to my family by not releasing my name or the names of my children. I would consider such a release a violation of ethics and privacy.

Submitted with all due respect and appreciation for the fine work that the ________ County School system provides for our children and community…

Thanks for your attention and actions in resolution of the matter.

Sincerely,

It goes back a lot longer than that. I think that when Robert Bork got the reception he got from the Democrats then that really started it and it grew from there. Reagan begot Clinton which begot Bush which begot Obama. Now each side is using anything as an excuse to retaliate against the other.

Good for your son altho I know it was hard for him in college.

Interesting that back when GHW Bush spoke to school kids the 2 leading Dems in Congress harshly denounced it saying we should not use taxpayer money for it.
now of course it is ok with obamites
