Skip to comments. The obligatory “David Brooks really impressed with Obama’s pants” post (ultra-barf)

If its not Frum and Bruce Bartlett demanding greater outreach from Republicans while sneering at them at every turn, its Brooks breaking his arms patting himself on the back for being an intellectual
who happens to find political portent in how well Barack Obama irons his pants.
That first encounter is still vivid in Brookss mind. I remember distinctly an image ofwe were sitting on his couches, and I was looking at his pant leg and his perfectly creased pant, Brooks says, and Im thinking, a) hes going to be president and b) hell be a very good president. In the fall of 2006, two days after Obamas The Audacity of Hope hit bookstores, Brooks published a glowing Times column. The headline was Run, Barack, Run. Obama sees himself as a Burkean, Brooks says. He sees his view of the world as a view that understands complexity and the organic nature of change. Moreover, after the Bush years, Brooks seems relieved to have an intellectual in the White House again. I divide people into people who talk like us and who dont talk like us, he explains. Of recent presidents, Clinton could sort of talk like us, but Obama is definitelyyou could see him as a New Republic writer. He can do the jurisprudence, he can do the political philosophy, and he can do the politics. I think hes more talented than anyone in my lifetime. I mean, he is pretty dazzling when he walks into a room. So, thats why its important he doesnt fuck this up.

Brooks also says he dislikes ideologues, but apparently has a mancrush on Obama, perhaps the biggest left-wing ideologue since FDR, if not ever. David Brooks is the definition of a pseudo-intellectual.
Why doesn’t Brooks just come out of the closet already?
Hard to tell who was the “dumbest man in the room” at that meeting.
He should reveal that he and Rahm are good friends, they really are.
Isn’t David Brooks supposed to be the Conservative voice on Jim Lehrer PBS??
Any “man” who finds it necessary to comment on the crease of another males “pant” has some serious gender identification issues.
Maybe Brooks should reveal the real reason he was looking at Zero’s pants....hmmmm
You can be sure Bummer didn’t iron his own pants, and neither did Michelle.
Talks a mite light in the loafers too, but to be fair I don’t know.
Real men always admire the “crease” in other men’s pants! Hey! How ‘bout those Bears this year! LOL! - John Candy. RIP.
Well, he's worse than that, he's a whore who sold out to the Slimes', homosexual cabal to be their dancing bear. They let him out for brief epsiodes, on a short chain leash, and watch in amusement while he attempts to parrot what he thinks they want him to say. At the Slimes this is laughingly called the "Willam Safire Chair of Political Commentary." and Brooks is the rightful heir.
It sounds like the right kind of person could easily pull the wool over this pseudo intellectuals eyes!
The right person just needs to have gone to the right schools, wear the right clothes, and project the right persona.
I suppose when you’re published regularly on the NY Times op-ed page it’s particularly difficult to realize when you’re really embarrassing yourself.
Sure. Just like John McCain is the Conservative voice on CBS-- or whatever.
An intelligent person is someone who can solve problems. A person who writes and reads all day but doesn’t know how to screw in a light bulb is an academic pseudo-intellectual.
Thought so ...
... does he get a tingle up his leg when he sees the crease in Othuggo’s pants?
