Meg Whitman - Candidate for Governor of Dead Broke California (She Spoke in Chico)
Post Scripts ^ | 8/25/09 | Jack Lee

Posted on 08/25/2009 6:33:45 AM PDT by OneVike

Candidate for Governor, billionaire and former eBay CEO, Meg Whitman-R, came to Chico today and spoke for about a 45 minutes at the Holiday Inn to an audience of about 150 mostly conservative Republicans. She received a friendly welcome and the gathering listened to her pitch politely, but with some reservation.

Mrs. Whitman opened with, ''Why would anybody want to be Governor of an insolvent state with all its troubles?" She noted that unemployment is creeping up on 12 percent and a K-12 education system now ranks a dismal 48th out of 50 states.

Whitman is a mostly moderate Republican when it comes to social issues. She is pro-choice, but she said she voted in favor of Proposition 4, which would have required parental notification if the girl was under 16. The initiative failed.

She is also for gun restriction in California. She said she supports Second Amendment rights, but that an assault weapon ban and handgun restrictions are "probably the right thing in California." She does not own a gun and was never a hunter.

Exactly. Which is why it is essential to stop illegal immigration. It has NOTHING to do with racism. California is bankrupt because of liberals enabling illegal immigrants.

And you are a member of the party because?

To teach the few good candidates around how to beat the left on environmental, regulatory, and social issues.

Socialist Kalifornia is destined to crash and burn, and a true conservative CAN NOT WIN there. It would be fitting for a Gray Davis-type hard leftist to go down with the ship. Neighboring states, prepare to be “Californicated” as folks scramble for the lifeboats...

It doesn’t always work out that way.

Maine is 98% white, and it’s not vital at all. The northern half of the state has a great deal of poverty. The democrats control the entire state government, the two House seats are dims and then there’s our two senators, the RINO stimulus sisters, Collins and Snowe.

As for California, I lived there for a long time. Back in 1978, it was 69% white. California would be better off if it elected a left-wing moonbat dim for Governor....the situation there has to get far worse so that enough people will wake up and start coming back to their senses.

I would NEVER vote for Whitman for two main reasons.

#1 - She is a Romney supporter.

#2 - I am a small business owner who does a lot of business on Ebay. Yes, she made Ebay a lot of money, but under her direction they treated small businesses like shit. She bent over backwards for everything the large businesses and the buyers wanted her to do and stepped on the smaller sellers.

#3 - Did I mention she is a Romney supporter?

BEWARE THE TROLLS posting nonsense to discredit conservatives.

And what may I ask do you mean? In your mind, who here are the trolls that may be posting nonsense about conservatives? Are you suggesting Meg Whitman is a conservative?

Please clarify your statement for us all to understand.

She is just another RINO in the group of RINO... Moderate, indeed! We need good strong people to know what is going on and to stand up against the liberals.

Have you ever been to Chico????? Talk about diverse dialects.

SD, you said a mouthful, and you are so right.

Many people do not realize that Chico is the most populated area north of Sacramento. We passed Redding a few years ago. With the increase of population we have also become quite a diverse City. Unfortunately it is not all for good.

“It doesn’t always work out that way.”

###

No it doesn’t. “ALWAYS” is a tough, seldom attained standard.

However, the preponderance of historical evidence supports my point, politically incorrect and “judgmental” as it may be.

"Considering only 40% of California is white, the chances of a true conservative winning are slim."

Wow. Is that true? I didn't realize it had reached that level, yet

My biggest problem with Whitman is her position on the 2nd Amendment rights. Sure, "pro choice" is problematic - but, it is California, so anything other position would be a non-starter, and at least she openly supported parental notification, which would be a BIG improvement in Cali.

Right now, California's biggest problems are financial. If someone - like Whitman - can restore the financial stability of CA, perhaps it would also restore the Republican brand name in CA, and open the door for a more traditional conservative in a few years.

Meg Whitman will only lead California deeper into the tank at 80 miles an hour instead of 90 miles an hour.

That’s no choice.

Didn’t people in California learn that with Arnold.

Lesser of two evils is an unacceptable situation for me right now.

NO MORE POLITICS AS USUAL.

We need sanity and Meg Whitman Republicans are far from it.

"She isn’t great, but she’s at least better than Steven Poizner - the other announced GOP candidate."

Don't forget Tom Campbell. Of the bunch, he's looking the best to my eye. Consider: his campaign tagline is as pure a distillation of conservative principles as has been uttered by any candidate in memory: "Less government. More freedom. Individual liberty."

Now, some who (like me) are pro-life will object to his pro-choice position, which Poizner and Whitman share. My advice: this state is simply not going to go pro-life at this time. It simply won't. Maybe someday. For now, we abort, and some of us pray for its end and for the souls of the victims. It isn't going to change, not until the culture does. Politically, our best strategy is to tear a page from the incrementalist playbook of the leftists who have won so relentlessly in the past two decades.

I don't yet know with certainty how I'm going to vote in the primary. Whitman has executive experience but is a political novice and has already said some regrettable things. Campbell is an experienced politician and educator with deep constitutional roots but with little first-hand private-sector experience; he is also a really nice guy... I've met him on several occasions and feel very comfortable with him as an ethical, moral human being. Poizner, I can't quite put my finger on it, but my initial reaction is just yecch. It's possible I'm doing a disservice to him, but I doubt it.

We could use a Deukmejian today; a Reagan even more. We don't need another girly-man Schwarzenspender adulation whore. And we sure as hell don't need a DemocRat governor to match our DemocRat legislature. Look how well that's working out in Washington. No, give me a GOP governor with a veto pen full of ink, and a devotion to "Less government. More freedom. Individual liberty."

Based on the little I know about her from reading that article you are probably correct.

ANOTHER Jon Corzine, Gubernator, Kennedy, Whitman (Chrissie), Pelosi type clone.

Just another rich clown with nothing better to do with their money than buy their way into office.

We can really thank that s.o.b. John McCain and his Marxist buddy Feingold for this.

Campaign Finance Reform REALISTICALLY means only the very affluent, generally liberal (they don't live in “our” world) can afford to run for office. Look at Kerry, Bush, Gore, Bloomberg, Rockefeller, etc. People with lots of bucks, no common sense, and utter contempt for the Founding Fathers and the little people like us who are forced to finance their socialist agenda with endless taxes.

The Guillotine was a great invention.

She isn’t great, but she’s at least better than...

The same sentiment was expressed before the last election. As a result, California ended up with The Terminator.

How has that "half-a-loaf" sentiment been working out for California?

How are Poizner and Campbell any better than Whitman? All three of them are thoroughly RINO and are bad on a whole host of issues besides abortion. It's like debating whether you'd rather be infected with Whooping Cough or Chicken Pox.

Poizner's wife is a registered Democrat (hmmm, reminds me of Arnold) and Poizner has given, and generously at that, to major Democrat candidates for office (Gore, Kerry, etc.) in addition to several Democrat controlled committees (DNC, etc.) Poizner ran for the State Assembly in a liberal Bay Area district, spent millions of dollars of his own money and still lost. He ran that race as the "model of a liberal GOPer" according to press accounts then.Poizner says, “I am not beholden to any party." That sure sounds like the making of the next Ahnold-Republican, doesn’t it? Poizner has a long history of supporting tax hikes, an intimate connection to unions and a cozy relationship with tax and spend liberals.

Campbell is far left on social issues and votes down the line with Democrats on abortion and homosexuality issues, including taxpayer funded abortion. Campbell was Ahnuld's budget director (now there's an achievement for being a "fiscal conservative), lobbying for Ahnuld's failed "special election" tax-hike schemes, and pushed for increasing the gasoline tax for one year by 32 cents. Campbell admits he wants to increase taxes and to support the teachers’ unions.

Seems me all three of the major candidates for Governor are little more than Ahnuld redux and are totally unacceptable for any conservative in the primary. I can't see how any of these guys would improve things much.

There is one announced conservative candidate for Governor, Scott Vyka , but sadly he seems to be a long shot at this point. Given the alternatives, if Vyka is the only conservative on ballot I'd gladly vote for him over the RINO trio.

What about Duncan Hunter? Leading California to a recovery would go a long way towards filling in that executive experience hole.
