Candidate for Governor, billionaire and former eBay CEO, Meg Whitman-R, came to Chico today and spoke for about a 45 minutes at the Holiday Inn to an audience of about 150 mostly conservative Republicans. She received a friendly welcome and the gathering listened to her pitch politely, but with some reservation.
Mrs. Whitman opened with, ''Why would anybody want to be Governor of an insolvent state with all its troubles?" She noted that unemployment is creeping up on 12 percent and a K-12 education system now ranks a dismal 48th out of 50 states.
Whitman is a mostly moderate Republican when it comes to social issues. She is pro-choice, but she said she voted in favor of Proposition 4, which would have required parental notification if the girl was under 16. The initiative failed.
She is also for gun restriction in California. She said she supports Second Amendment rights, but that an assault weapon ban and handgun restrictions are "probably the right thing in California." She does not own a gun and was never a hunter.

I must admit, this is a pretty pathetic state, and I am not sure California is worth the headache anymore.
I’m sure a conservative will run, but Whitman has billions of dollars plus the backing of the party to secure the nomination. She isn’t great, but she’s at least better than Steven Poizner - the other announced GOP candidate.
“Dead Broke California”
hmmm....I have been calling it the “PRK” for years, looks like I might have to change my name for it to “DBK.”
In reality, Kalifornia wishes it had enough money to be considered broke.
You know, since you incorrectly placed this in Breaking News, that every single person who glances over at the title for the first time will think it’s reporting that Meg Whitman is dead?
Considering only 40% of California is white, the chances of a true conservative winning are slim.
America, this is what’s coming to you next.
“Isn’t there a conservative out there that wants to throw their hat in the ring for California?”
Why would they? They would give the voters a ton of good reasons to vote for them, and then be rejected by the Kalifornia electorate as being too far out of the mainstream.
There are no conservatives left in California. They left. Gone. Buh-bye. And if one tries to run, they get bowled over by the inept RINO machine and the Dems. It’s gotten to a point of, “Why bother?”
Pro-Murder...
You cannot run a state or a country the same way you run a corporation. These are entirely 2 different entities. I’m not sure if Meg Whitman is the right person for the job.
RINOs
I’ve had enough of her type with Swartzie thank you.
(Tom McClintock—phone home!!!)
“She is also for gun restriction in California. She said she supports Second Amendment rights, but that an assault weapon ban and handgun restrictions are “probably the right thing in California.” She does not own a gun and was never a hunter.”
Pro-murderer, too...
For a second I thought she was speaking in a California dialect I hadn't heard of before. ;-)
I would be very careful. She sounds like a RINO and you know they turn on conservatives.
“Considering only 40% of California is white...”

Dare I say that the percentage of whites in any given geographical area has a DIRECT and irrefutable correlation with its overall future viability, health and vitality.
Why yes. Yes, I beleive I will go out on that limb and state the obvious.
If this individual is even REMOTELY connected with RINO ex-governor Chrissie Whitman of New Jersey, forget her.
Her policies sound IDENTICAL to Chrissie Whitman’s, as well as her wealth.
Gosh, where have I heard this type of drooling stupidity before... Oh yeah, that's when Arnold ran for grovelnator. It put us under a mountain of debt, gave us the equivalent of cap and trade, locked up heaven only knows how much real estate, regulated industry into non-existence, INCREASED the bureaucracy faster than any Democrat, all virtually without opposition. And to think it gave "Republicans" a bad name to boot!
And whom does Arnold blame? Why the legislature, for not increasing taxes enough!
This state came within 300,000 votes of electing a real conservative in 2002, and but 5,000 votes of putting McClintock in the controller's office with the State GOP actively sabotaging both candidates.
This bogus crap of "he can't win" is EXACTLY what gave us George Bush, who gave the Slave Party nearly all they wanted and took the blame to boot. If you want to do that to Missouri, go right ahead, but keep your RINO-pimping trap shut when it comes to California. Our real problem is our own party, not the people.
