Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten said Kyle Blackburn was taken to Loris Community Hospital in South Carolina, though he did not know the extent of his injuries.
The shooting occurred on Soles property in Tabor City when two men went to the senators house and tried to kick in his front door, Batten said.
The other man involved in the incident is B.J. Wright, Batten said.
The State Bureau of Investigation is probing the shooting, Batten said, because the agency is already looking into accusations against the senator.
A man accused Soles of attempting to molest him, leading authorities to ask the SBI to investigate. The man later said his allegation was false.

I am guessing that because we do not see Republican Republican Republican that he is a D? Whenever they do not specify a party that is usually an indicator that they are a D.
Nice reporting. What Rat party does Soles belong to...?
(D) as indicated by no mention.
Democrat, NC... looking for his position on gun ownership....
Lucky for him he is clinging to his guns!
Since R.C. Soles is a DemospLabRat, is he a dinosaur, since he has a gun?
So the guy shot someone breaking into his house, and that’s a bad thing?
You guessed correctly and are the winner to tonight’s edition of “Name that Pary!”, the fun filled media game in which Democrats embroiled in scandal and compromising situations are never, ever, identified by party affliation.
The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into allegations that state Sen. R.C. Soles tried to molest a 15-year-old boy.
Rex Gore, district attorney for Brunswick, Columbus and Bladen counties, said the Tabor City police chief asked him Thursday morning to contact the SBI to conduct an investigation after a local TV station aired the allegations.
I agree that they need to be examined, Gore said.
The young man told a TV reporter Soles tried to touch him in a sexual manner when he was 15 years old.
Soles, a 74-year-old Democrat and the longest-serving state Senator, has been the subject of recent media coverage about his relationships with several young men in Columbus County since the home of one of them, Allen Strickland, was torched by an arsonist two weeks ago.
Gore said Tabor City police believe they know the origin of the fire and expect to make an arrest next week.
Gore said the Tabor City police enlisted the help of the SBI because they have limited manpower.
The DA emphasized that the preliminary steps have been taken and no charges have been filed. He said his office will examine the evidence collected by the state to determine the credibility of the allegations.
Soles did not return a message left at his law office in Tabor City.
In an article published by the Brunswick Beacon, Soles explained his relationships with the young men, who are also clients of his law firm, as that of a benefactor. He said he has given money and gifts to many in Tabor City.
In the article, he also said he had trouble with some of the clients stalking him and has called the local police to step in.
Maybe Ive been too giving, he said.
Considering Senator Soles’ estranged relationship with the truth there must be some doubts about the facts in the case. Maybe he invited a couple yutes over for some booze and weed and when he tried to grope them they resisted.
Oh my... seems NC is already looking into allegations of the Senator’s alleged predilection of getting romantic with underage males... it is an allegation, not proven.
Good thing he didnt stick his foot under a restroom stall, it would mean the death penalty.
Sounds to me like he’s been ‘wee weed’ up
If he were a Republican the story would’ve mentioned his party affiliation 16 times....
Not to mention numerous calls from the media to resign.
Translation- He was the pitcher, not the catcher.
