PHOENIX (AP) - About a dozen people carrying guns, including one with a military-style rifle, milled among protesters outside the convention center where President Barack Obama was giving a speech Monday—the latest incidents in which protesters have openly displayed firearms near the president. Gun-rights advocates say they're exercising their constitutional right to bear arms and protest, while those who argue for more gun control say it could be a disaster waiting to happen.

I for one value and support our Second Amendment rights, but don't think it's appropriate to carry firearms to town hall meetings and to make a show of it, even if it's perfectly legal. What do all of you think?

Here's a hypothetical situation: Someone who illegally possesses a gun(A) opens fire on the crowd at BO's speech. The person who legally possesses a gun (B) draws and shoots, killing (A) before anyone is shot.

Would you still think it was inappropriate for (B) to carry the gun at BO's speech?

Amen! the whole point of the second amendment is to defend and protect the citizens of the USA...a citizen is responsible for his or her actions...the 5’ female armed is more than equal to the Union Thug who tries to deny her or their right to assemble peacefully, yes it does give great pause to the style of the Debate, yea think???

EXACTLY!

The people screaming the most about lawful firearms use are completely silent about the Obama Brownshirts, union thugs and ACORN!

It’s bad enough that we’re fighting to exercise our right to open carry in Wisconsin, anyway. Sick to death of limitations to everything we try to do.

So more power to these folks.

This guy is a supporter of 0bama. The woman behind him
in the purple shirt is from SEUI.

Apparently there were folks on both sides openly carrying.
Looks like things need only a spark to set the nation on fire.

Please, everyone, keep a cool head and be safe.

Yes, I believe it is going too far and will just cause them to start trying to make more gun laws. Used in this manner looks threatening.

Don’t you just know these people each had a little ‘red dot’ focused on their heads the whole time??

Our elected leaders must be shown well and clearly: they represent a free people who will spank them verbally, and if need be, physically, should they attempt enact laws to enslave. This principle has suffered a decades-long evaporation due to indifference. Obama and his followers are pushing all the right buttons to bring about a physical spanking, however. Let them keep it up. “Live free or die” is not just a string of pretty words. I appreciate the fact some of our citizens are brave enough to act accordingly, and appreciate even more the media meltdown when free people do what they do best.

I guess I don’t understand what you’re getting at.

If he was SEIU he has the same rights as anyone else (if he’s an American citizen) Until he actually makes a threatening move I still don’t have an issue with it. I grew up around guns and don’t feel in the least threatened by them unless they’re pointed in my direction.

Please know in your heart, everyone knows what the man or woman with a gun is doing when strapped to ones leg! It does make for a more solemn occasion vs the hate filled thuggery by the left, they are self/anarchist first, Marxist 2nd, dims third...

‘Hey Everyone—I know we have Second Amendment rights, but don’t you think actions like this might be inflammatory?’

My questions is, does it matter if it’s inflammatory? I never thought of our Rights as things that should be cherished unless it ‘looks bad’. As far as winining over the average moderate, we now have had a few instances where armed citizens were in the vicinity of townhall meetings, and they behaved wonderfully. That’s good PR, IMO.

If I polish a rock and paint it green then chuck it at an AP reporter did I use a military-style assault rock?

protesters have openly displayed firearms near the president.

That's a pretty damned broad interpretation of the word "near".

I'm certain Mr. 0bama was well outside the operational range of any of these firearms. Which, in fact, puts him nowhere near any of them.

This would especially be true under Alinsky’s rules, if the firearm carrier was pro Obamacare but undeclared. The purpose of the rifle is to demonstrate the “threat” against the “peaceful” socialists who want us to have no rights. This is classic, “false flag” methodology. Let the media imply he is a right winger obvious conservative, and he has done the task.

If they were under greater surveillance so be it...it makes for a more civil exchange of ideas..., the trouble is when government tries to disarm a citizen within his or her Rights.

I believe the Secret Service has no way of knowing WHO is carrying legally or illegally and if one person starts shooting, the S.S. could start shooting at others who openly have guns. They would have no way of knowing if this was a ‘group’ action or what.

To me, the right to carry is so important that some common sense should be used.

‘armed citizens were in the vicinity of townhall meetings, and they behaved wonderfully. ‘

I would also commend the Secret Service and the local LEO’s for handling the situations effectively so far.
