Rock legend Bob Dylan was treated like a complete unknown by police in a New Jersey shore community when a resident called to report someone wandering around the neighborhood.
The officers asked Dylan for identification. The singer of such classics as "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Blowin' in the Wind" said that he didn't have any ID with him, that he was just walking around looking at houses to pass some time before that night's show.
The officers asked Dylan, 68, to accompany them back to the Ocean Place Resort and Spa, where the performers were staying. Once there, tour staff vouched for Dylan.
The officers thanked him for his cooperation.
"He couldn't have been any nicer to them," Woolley added.

I don't think they will, but what they will probably do is descend upon Dylan and demand that he straighten his act out and become one of the offended and say those coppers were unAmerican and owed him an apology.
Wandering While a Wilbury?
I think Obama needs to get involved.
Ain’t Talkin’
As I walked out tonight in the mystic garden
The wounded flowers were dangling from the vine
I was passing by yon cool crystal fountain
Someone hit me from behind
Ain’t talkin’, just walkin’
Through this weary world of woe
Heart burnin’, still yearnin’
No one on earth would ever know
They say prayer has the power to heal
So pray for me, mother
In the human heart an evil spirit can dwell
I am a-tryin’ to love my neighbor and do good unto others
But oh, mother, things ain’t going well
Ain’t talkin’, just walkin’
I’ll burn that bridge before you can cross
Heart burnin’, still yearnin’
There’ll be no mercy for you once you’ve lost
Now I’m all worn down by weeping
My eyes are filled with tears, my lips are dry
If I catch my opponents ever sleeping
I’ll just slaughter ‘em where they lie
Ain’t talkin’, just walkin’
Through the world mysterious and vague
Heart burnin’, still yearnin’
Walkin’ through the cities of the plague.
Well, the whole world is filled with speculation
The whole wide world which people say is round
They will tear your mind away from contemplation
They will jump on your misfortune when you’re down
Ain’t talkin’, just walkin’
Eatin’ hog eyed grease in a hog eyed town.
Heart burnin’, still yearnin’
Some day you’ll be glad to have me around.
They will crush you with wealth and power
Every waking moment you could crack
I’ll make the most of one last extra hour
I’ll revenge my father’s death then I’ll step back
Ain’t talkin’, just walkin’
Hand me down my walkin’ cane.
Heart burnin’, still yearnin’
Got to get you out of my miserable brain.
All my loyal and my much-loved companions
They approve of me and share my code
I practice a faith that’s been long abandoned
Ain’t no altars on this long and lonesome road
Ain’t talkin’, just walkin’
My mule is sick, my horse is blind.
Heart burnin’, still yearnin’
Thinkin’ ‘bout that gal I left behind.
Well, it’s bright in the heavens and the wheels are flyin’
Fame and honor never seem to fade
The fire gone out but the light is never dyin’
Who says I can’t get heavenly aid?
Ain’t talkin’, just walkin’
Carryin’ a dead man’s shield
Heart burnin’, still yearnin’
Walkin’ with a toothache in my heel
The sufferin’ is unending
Every nook and cranny has its tears
I’m not playing, I’m not pretending
I’m not nursin’ any superfluous fears
Ain’t talkin’, just walkin’
Walkin’ ever since the other night.
Heart burnin’, still yearnin’
Walkin’ ‘til I’m clean out of sight.
As I walked out in the mystic garden
On a hot summer day, a hot summer lawn
Excuse me, ma’am, I beg your pardon
There’s no one here, the gardener is gone
Ain’t talkin’, just walkin’
Up the road, around the bend.
Heart burnin’, still yearnin’
In the last outback at the world’s end.
‘The officers asked Dylan, 68, to accompany them back to the Ocean Place Resort and Spa’
Funny. I guess the cops were lost and needed Dylan’s help finding the resort and spa.
It would have been awesome if he said no.
Old old news, search and reading is your friend.
Contrast this with the video of Chicago "youths" referenced here yesterday.
ML/NJ
That would have been awesome and then if he gave them free tickets.
Since I really don’t pay much attention to “who’s who” in entertainment - just about anybody could sit down at a table next to me and eat without me jumping up and going “Oh, OH, can I have your autograph? Will you take a picture with me?”
Personally, I wouldn’t know Dylan if I saw him on the street,so I think the police acted responsibly in this case.
How refreshing. A "star," who was being inconvenienced, who didn't act like he was too good to cooperate. Amazing how he didn't get arrested like Prof. What's-his-name.
I think that the key thing we can learn from this incident is not that the police acted responsibly here, but that Bob Dylan acted very responsibly here also, unlike Gates or ObamaYoMama did.
I know how you feel. I don’t recognize half the names or 99% of the faces that are called celebrities these days.
This is amerika changed, you can't just be out a wanderin anymore.
“I wouldn’t recognize him either.”
It is not that the cops did not recognize *him*, it is that they did not recognize his *name*.
It’s like the cops stop someone and ask him “Who are you?” The guy says “Paul McCartney” and the cops don’t either (a) roll their eyes at being goofed; or (b) say “You mean like the guy in the Beatles?”
And thus, the difference in outcome...
Contemplating while caucasian?
My guess is he was looking for an ‘illegal influence’ when the Police stopped him. SO, you be nice and let them take you back to the hotel, then get a roadie to get some for you.
