TUESDAY, AUGUST 4TH, 2009 AT 6:55 AM Facts Are Stubborn Things Posted by Macon Phillips

Opponents of health insurance reform may find the truth a little inconvenient, but as our second president famously said, "facts are stubborn things."

Scary chain emails and videos are starting to percolate on the internet, breathlessly claiming, for example, to "uncover" the truth about the President’s health insurance reform positions.

In this video, Linda Douglass, the communications director for the White House’s Health Reform Office, addresses one example that makes it look like the President intends to "eliminate" private coverage, when the reality couldn’t be further from the truth.

For the record, the President has consistently said that if you like your insurance plan, your doctor, or both, you will be able to keep them. He has even proposed eight consumer protections relating specifically to the health insurance industry.

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

Here are the complete videos that Linda refers to. First from the AARP:

And then from the President's news conference:

“Obama in 2007 Said He Wanted to Eliminate Private Health Insurance”

By Noel Sheppard | August 2, 2009 | 18:48

SNIPPET: “As President Obama repeatedly tells America that his plan for healthcare reform will not lead to the elimination of private health insurance, statements he made in 2007 and 2003 tell a different story altogether.

In shocking video uncovered by our good friends at Naked Emperor News, Obama, speaking at SEIU’s New Leadership Health Care Forum on March 24, 2007, said, “My commitment is to make sure that we have universal healthcare for all Americans by the end of my first term as President.”

Later in the discussion, he elaborated (video embedded below the fold):”

“Obamacare: The Unimaginable Suffering That Awaits Us”

November 5, 2013 By John Perazzo

SNIPPET: “There is a vital reason for all Americans to take a close look at how, specifically, the various government-run, single-payer healthcare systems around the world have already affected the lives of the people living under them. This is vital because Barack Obama and the Democrats actually have their sights set on creating precisely such a system here in the United States. For them, Obamacare is, and always has been, nothing more than a stepping stone toward their ultimate goal of a single-payer leviathan administered entirely by the federal government. Indeed, they’ve been quite clear about their intentions:”

Poll: 78% of Uninsured Not Interested in ObamaCare
brietbart ^ | 11-8-2013 | John Nolte
Posted on November 8, 2013 at 12:18:06 PM PST by tcrlaf

A new Gallup poll brings more terrible news for President Obama and his signature health plan, showing that only 22% of uninsured Americans intend to buy insurance through the ObamaCare exchanges.

One of the major selling points for using ObamaCare to disrupt our health care system (that polls showed up to 80% of Americans were satisfied with) was to insure the uninsured. But according to this poll, only a very small minority of that small minority is even interested in obtaining insurance.

Even more troubling is the realization that a month ago, that number was double; a full 44% of the uninsured said they would purchase insurance though the exchanges.

Over the course of a month, however, the reality of ObamaCare scared off half of that 44%

Dealing With A Terminal Illness Under Obamacare; Cancer Patient Denied Coverage

Bobby Powell
Published on Nov 11, 2013

Last week was a tough one, with bad news coming from two different sources. The first was from my wife’s oncologist who reported that her last two CT scans showed no shrinkage of the tumors that have invaded her liver.

A couple of days later, we found out that the Michigan Department of Social Services has determined that my terminally ill wife is no longer eligible for Medicaid. As of December 1st 2013, she will lose her Medicaid; all because I applied for Obamacare. She is so stressed and frightened that she has been in tears all week. The bastards even took away the free school lunches that my son was getting in school because that is tied to being a Medicaid recipient.

We are appealing that ridiculous decision, but if we are to fight to get her coverage back and win, we are going to need your prayers and the help of Almighty God.

This Obamacare nightmare is a scheme cooked up right in the very pits of Hell. I’m afraid that not only will many people lose their insurance, but some - including my wife - may very well die as a result of Barack Obama’s desire to destroy 1/6th of our economy with a plan that he knew full well would force more than 100-million Americans off of their insurance, leaving them unable to get affordable medical care.

I am putting together a show that will document this travesty in detail for publication later this week. Please lift my wife and me up to Father and ask that He be with us both. DeLynn doesn’t want to die any more than I want her to die, and we’re both frightened out of our minds.

I know this video might seem weird. I’m not quite sure how I am going to process this. I have no idea what I am going to do if I lose my wife. She means everything to me.

If you’d like to help spread the word, maybe we can find someone to step in and save her life. I’ve composed a Tweet to Megan Kelly who has been asking for viewers to send in their Obamacare horror stories. I think this qualifies. Here is the Tweet (with 3 characters left to spare.)

@megynkelly #thekellyfile PLEASE read Obamacare nightmare of @TheTruthIsViral My wife will die w/o your help! https://t.co/iufSIsk9iP

Please help us get this video seen by as many people as possible. There HAS to be someone out there who can do something to save my wife’s life.

God bless and Semper Fi,
Bobby

Calif. Insurance Commissioner: More Than 1M Californians Having Insurance Cancelled Due To ACA
CBSSacramento ^ | November12,2013
Posted on November 12, 2013 at 4:02:38 PM PST by Hojczyk

Anthem Blue Cross of California has agreed to a two-month extension of about 104,000 individual policies after failing to give the required 90-day cancellation notice, state Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones announced Tuesday.

The policies had been set to expire on Dec. 31 but will be extended until Feb. 28 for those who choose to re-enroll. Notices informing customers of the extension will be sent out this week, Anthem said.

Jones said the company notified the Department of Insurance that it failed to give enough notice because of a computer glitch and voluntarily offered to extend the policies.

Anthem spokesman Darrel Ng said a subset of individual customers was “inadvertently omitted from the original mailing” notifying them that their policies were being terminated. He declined to say how many Anthem customers were being notified their policies were ending.

My husband and I are retired and at a very early age we planned for retirement.

We also planned for emergencies (including health emergencies).

What we didn’t visualize was a president worst than Carter & Clinton.

What we didn’t foresee was political correctness enabling socialism to grow out of control — a socialistic cancer, if you will.

Anyway, while our health insurance did not get cancelled; it just about doubled.

Unfortunately, our income has not doubled.

We received our yearly statement from our health insurance provider.

Monthly payments for health insurance were: $233.12 per month. They are now $438.36 as of January 1, 2014.

4 keys to scrutinizing Medicare Advantage cuts
Monterey Herald ^ | 11/13/2013 | Tom Murphy
Posted on November 13, 2013 at 2:51:02 PM PST by artichokegrower

Ominous warnings about Medicare Advantage plans have sounded for more than a year now.

Health insurers say federal funding cuts to these privately run versions of Medicare will force them to whack plan benefits, hike premiums or leave some geographic markets entirely as they continue to fight rising health care costs. The government is paring back the money it provides for this coverage as part of its effort to fund the health care overhaul, which aims to cover millions of uninsured people.

Plan changes are starting to crystallize for Medicare Advantage customers who are about a month into the annual open enrollment window in which they can search for new coverage. Benefits experts say patients are seeing fewer plan choices this year, and more are losing doctors from their insurance coverage networks. Open enrollment lasts until Dec. 7, and many customers wait until the final weeks to pick a plan.

Ted Cruz and Mike Lee Warned You (And Sarah Palin, too)

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: You know, the... No, no, no. What’s interesting about that is like Kay Hagan, Democrat senator from North Carolina. All these Democrat senators now want to be exempted from all the fallout of this. There are 13 of ‘em, a baker’s dozen. They knew when they voted for this. I don’t think they deserve to be let off the hook. The Democrats that now want this all delayed — they want the individual mandate delayed — they want things delayed ‘til after the 2014 election.

They’ve trooped up to see Obama. Folks, they knew. Everybody knew that you were going to lose your plan. They knew it, and they’re lying if they’re now acting surprised and acting like they didn’t know it. They did know it! They were just being loyal to Obama, being loyal to the party, not their voters — and now they want a do-over. I think is a point needs to be drilled home. Every one of these senators now crying and whining, they knew what was in store for people.

You probably have heard that a million Californians have lost their policies. It’s in an AP story. You have to read to the last paragraph to find that out, though. That’s so far. That’s right, just a million so far. “Health insurer Anthem Blue Cross of California has agreed to a two-month extension of about 104,000 individual policies after failing to give the required 90-day cancellation notice, state Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones announced Tuesday.”

That’s how this story on a million people so far being canceled begins. “The policies had been set to expire on Dec. 31 but will be extended until Feb. 28 for those who choose to re-enroll. Notices informing customers of the extension will be sent out this week, Anthem said. ... More than one million cancellation notices have been sent to Californians as [Obamacare] begins allowing individuals to buy insurance through exchanges...” Not “allowing,” requiring!

Sorry to be yelling. I know it scares a 25-year-old woman out there, but this is just... More than one million cancellation notices have been sent to Californians as [Obamacare] begins allowing individuals to buy insurance...”? Why are they being canceled, AP? What do you mean, “allowing individuals to buy insurance through the exchanges”? This is mandatory! Have you ever heard of the individual mandate? They’re being canceled, and this is just the beginning.

As I said, wait until people who get their health insurance at work start losing their policies starting in January. Right now we’re just talking about the individual market — and now, by the way, there’s no way the website’s going to be fixed by the end of the month. Everybody involved is admitting that, and now there’s a drop-dead date of this Friday. That’s the “de facto deadline” before Democrats defy Obama and back the Republicans’ fixes for Obamacare.

“CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash told her network’s anchors on Tuesday that the end of the week is the ‘de facto deadline’ at which point the White House needs to have settled on a series of fixes to address the crisis of Americans losing their health coverage. After Friday, Bash reported, House Democrats are going to be backing GOP proposed fixes to [Obamacare] against the wishes of President Barack Obama’s administration.”

Now, this doesn’t even talk about the 12 senators. She’s talking about House Democrats. Now, folks, I want to take you back to Ted Cruz and Mike Lee a month ago. They were trying to warn people what was coming. They were trying to get people back then to delay this, to defund it, to prevent this that’s happening from happening. They knew it was coming, as did every other elected official. Everybody in both parties knew this was coming, folks.

Do not doubt me on this.

Everybody knew.

Obama knew.

These 12/13 senators asking for a do-over knew. The House Democrats, everybody knew. They voted for it, and they need to be reminded of that, and they knew this was coming. But back when Ted Cruz was leading the effort, what was being said about him? “Well, he’s a terrorist! Well, he’s holding people hostage! He’s demanding ransoms! He’s an extremist.” He was right, and he was one of maybe two or three people who had the guts to go public and tell people what was headed their way.

He was one of two or three only had the guts to warn people what was coming and tried to do something to prevent this. Ted Cruz. You go back, thinking what kind of names he was being called and the insults being tossed at him and Mike Lee and everybody involved in that effort, just a month ago. Now the very people who were throwing those insults out — accusing him of being a terrorist, accusing him of wanting to take hostages and ransoms and so forth — are now the people begging to be exempted!

They’re begging for the rules to be changed, begging for there to be a delay so that they’re not negatively impacted. They knew this was coming. They voted for it. This is the kind of stuff that ticks me off. These guys, the pioneers take the arrows, and they were right on the money about it, and they are owed an apology. They are owed an apology from the Republican establishment. They’re owed an apology from Obama. They’re owed an apology from the media because they called it.

They predicted this.

Ted Cruz and Mike Lee and everybody involved in their effort was trying to prevent what is happening now from happening. All they wanted to do was defund it or delay it so that this wouldn’t happen, so that you wouldn’t begin losing your policy. That’s all they wanted to do. They knew you wanted to keep your policy, and for that they were insulted. They were impugned, they were attacked, and everybody in the Washington establishment from both parties, tried to destroy them.

We’re coming up on the holiday season, as you know, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and what’s Obama thinking about now? Not Merry Christmas. No way, folks. Obama’s thinking about merry cancellations. (playing of parody) That’s right, my friends, and that’s probably the way the Regime is going to try to deal with this is buy you off. So we have a drop-dead day. The Democrats are threatening, according to Dana Bash, to line up with the Republicans on Friday if something isn’t done.

Ted Cruz and Mike Lee tried to warn everybody. So did we here. We were on board with Lee and Cruz. We knew what was headed our way. You knew what was headed your way. So did the people who voted for it, and now everybody’s in the CYA mode, and it is obvious. Well, I don’t want to jump the gun, but there’s Republicans talking, “Well, we knew this was blown implode,” and we’ve got some Republicans now saying this could be the end of liberalism.

The end of liberalism? What do you mean, “the end of liberalism”? You can’t just sit by and have the end of liberalism happen! You’ve gotta join the fight and bring it to a close, screeching halt. End liberalism? Because it’s gonna implode? All Obama’s gotta do is get legislation passed for one-time subsidies for everybody that lost their plan, and liberalism’s just fine. BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Ray in Providence, Rhode Island. I’ve got 30 seconds, and you had a good point and I wanted to get to you.

CALLER: You were talking about those with courage to speak out against Obamacare like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, there’s one person, the granddaddy, actually, the grandma of all public and outspoken Obamacare critics. The first one, going way back to the beginning, is Sarah Palin, in 2009, when no prominent Republican was publicly criticizing Obama. And look how she got hammered. But, boy, if anybody deserves an apology and praise for being prescient, it’s Sarah Palin.

RUSH: Well, it’s a good point. She was the first to identify the death panels. And you are absolutely right. That is why I, whenever these people, I don’t care if it’s Cruz, if it’s Mike Lee, if it’s some conservative media people, I always try to defend these people because the assault is not on just them. It’s on everything they believe and everybody who agrees with them. But you are right, she was the first to identify the death panels. Mike Lee and Cruz were actually specifically trying to alert people we should stop Obamacare because of this particular thing, losing your policy.

Obama tells supporters to fight ObamaCare ‘misinformation’ - talk it up at holiday parties The Hill ^ | November 18, 2013 | Justin Sink Posted on November 18, 2013 at 11:09:59 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife President Obama told supporters Monday night that he needed their help battling against “a lot of misinformation” spread by political opponents about his signature healthcare legislation. He said that some individuals would still need to be enrolled by phone or in person, even after repairs to the website were complete. And he accused Republicans of complicating efforts to get the program off the ground. “Obviously, we haven’t been getting a lot of cooperation from the other party,” he said. Obama encouraged supporters to talk face-to-face with neighbors, friends, and family members about the law. He also suggested that proponents of ObamaCare should use holiday parties and family gatherings to encourage their loved ones to purchase insurance. “We have to remember the conversations we’re having around the dinner table,” Obama said. He also thanked his backers for their support during the trying early weeks of the ObamaCare rollout. “Despite all the noise out there, despite all the criticism, despite all the setbacks that we’ve experienced during this process, I’ve never lost faith,” he said, adding that his supporters were “what keeps me going.” Despite the president’s assurances, his tone throughout his 12 minutes of remarks was noticeably subdued — an issue amplified by a scratchy phone connection that made it, at times, difficult to hear the president. Many reporters struggled initially to join the call because of buffering issues with the website, an ironic twist considering that a purpose of the teleconference was to downplay problems with HealthCare.gov. Still, OFA executive director Jon Carson announced that over 200,000 individuals had accessed the teleconference. The president also took a brief detour from discussing his signature health care law to denounce a move by Senate Rpeublicans to filibuster the nomination of Robert Wikins’s nomination to the D.C. Court of Appeals. Obama blasted the move as “obstructionism” and “completely unprecedented,” while hinting that the fight "may get more attention" in the coming weeks. That could indicate that Democrats are steeling for another battle over Senate filibuster rules. Following a similar filibuster of Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.) to oversee the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Vice President Joe Biden said it was “worth considering” the so-called nuclear option. Democrats could change the upper chamber’s rules so that only a simple majority was necessary to confirm nominees.

He also thanked his backers for their support during the trying early weeks of the ObamaCare rollout.

“Despite all the noise out there, despite all the criticism, despite all the setbacks that we’ve experienced during this process, I’ve never lost faith,” he said, adding that his supporters were “what keeps me going.”

Despite the president’s assurances, his tone throughout his 12 minutes of remarks was noticeably subdued — an issue amplified by a scratchy phone connection that made it, at times, difficult to hear the president.

Obama blasted the move as “obstructionism” and “completely unprecedented,” while hinting that the fight “may get more attention” in the coming weeks.

“Thousands of Doctors Dropped by Insurer After Obamacare Funding Cuts”
Posted 11/16/2013

SNIPPET: “from Newsmax – UnitedHealth Group has dropped thousands of doctors from its networks in recent weeks, leaving many elderly patients unsure whether they need to switch plans to continue seeing their doctors, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

The insurer said in October that underfunding of Medicare Advantage plans for the elderly could not be fully offset by the company’s other healthcare business.

The company also reported spending more healthcare premiums on medical claims in the third quarter, due mainly to government cuts to payments for Medicare Advantage services.”

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, health adviser to President Barack Obama, is under scrutiny. As a bioethicist, he has written extensively about who should get medical care, who should decide, and whose life is worth saving. Dr. Emanuel is part of a school of thought that redefines a physician’s duty, insisting that it includes working for the greater good of society instead of focusing only on a patient’s needs. Many physicians find that view dangerous, and most Americans are likely to agree.
