See www.urbandictionary.com for all such questions. I have them send me the urban word of the day just to keep up with the young folks. My kids are often amazed that I know these things.

“leetspeak

A form of writing whereby some letters in a word are replaced by a numerical likeness or other letters that create an identical or similar sound.

This style of writing was originally in use by hackers who were attempting to bypass word-filtering on mail servers. For instance, they would use the term ‘haxorz’ to replace ‘hackers’. Internet users new to hacking adopted the style in an attempt to emulate those more experienced, and usage became widely spread.

In recent times the method is almost never used to avoid word-filtering software, but rather to satirise script kiddies and 12 year olds, or to abbreviate for faster typing. It’s interesting to note that in most cases it takes more time to type in leetspeak (due to the constant swapping between numbers and letters) than it would take to just type the words properly.

When using leetspeak, you should be aware that you are almost definitely coming across as a moron.”

“pwn” stems from a typo on a cult video game that has a screen that pops up after it beats you...

you are “pwned”

meaning you are “owned”

the typo has achieved more fame than the game.

"pwn" is pronounced "[censored]".

Well, that's unfortunate.

'Can only say' but happens. . .it's own three-letter sign language; if you will; and when in a hurry; it gets the job done; so to speak.

I like the way Sarah speaks. The only people I’ve seen it bother (up until this thread) have some uber-lib-elitists that I know.

Still, if she has aspirations to be a force nationally and not just in her beloved Alaska, I’m sure she’s getting advice on how to talk (as opposed to “speak”) to such types, regardless of their party.

Is it derived from “pawn?”

To pawn, as a verb, of course is to exchange for money. However the pawnbroker usually gives you less money than what he can sell the item for.

There is the chess metaphor as well — “to make into a footsoldier,” I suppose.

Yeah, I know it’s text lingo — 2 lazy 2 type and all, but maybe you could give me some additional insights.

I missed McGruff’s post the first time around. I really don’t get it. It’s no easier to type “pwn” than it is to type “own.”

It sure sounded solid coming from Alaska Report News

Then, Rick Moran, you are an IDIOT or a LIAR. NOTHING coming from Alaska Report is credibile. To think you, Rick Moran, didn't know that shows how stupid you are or you are lying.

The Alaska Report cites a blog as a source for the info: The Immoral Minority. The Immoral Minority is part of the group of lunatics who have been filing ethics charges against Sarah Palin.

I found out all of this by GOOGLING! I think Rick Moran has a few more resources than I do!!!

This rumor is BS. She did not put out the story herself. It was put out by the same frickin’ crew that has given her all the grief on the ethics complaints. This story was put down all day yesterday, why is it still being posted?

Updated 5:21pm AKDT

3:51pm - AlaskaReport.com receives letter from Palin lawyer Van Flein (will post soon when we clarify missing information)

August 2, 2009
Palin lawyer threatens to serve papers at kindergarten, then balks

ImmoralMinority blogs breaks Palin divorce story

Updated 7:37am AKDT

By Dennis Zaki (CNN Stringer)

Thomas Van Flein, Sarah Palin’s lawyer, threatened Saturday to serve libel papers at a kindergarten to the owner of the highly trafficked “ImmoralMinority” blog for a divorce story on the Palins. The blog was given until 3pm Saturday to remove the story and post a retraction. The blogger stands by the story.

“Gryphen”, the owner of the blog, laughed off the threat and told AlaskaReport: - “Nothing that I wrote in my post was meant to be malicious (the HELL it wasn’t!) I trust my source and simply reported what I had been told.

Threatening to serve legal papers to an educator in a room full of five year olds? Now that is malicious.” (Hiding his identity behind a blog & now hiding behind five year olds!)

The blogger posted a story, most of which has been confirmed by AlaskaReport, about a possible divorce between former Alaska governor Sarah Palin and her husband Todd. Palin quit Alaska last week after complaining about 21 ethics complaints that have hounded her since she was found guilty in the Troopergate scandal.

See Thomas Van Flein threat to the “Immoral Minority” blogger.

Copy of letter at link above!

******

BTW, Dennis Zaki who wrote this piece is a CNN Stringer and friends with the two big fat ugly cows who have been filing ethics complaints against Sarah.

Another clue to who the ‘Immoral Minority’ blogger is, he works at a Kindergarten (full of five year olds!) He is also 49 yrs. old, 210 lbs, divorced and has a 22 yr. old gay daughter.

All of which I found by GOOGLING. You would think some enterprising JOURNALIST could figure it out if they wanted to unless they already know who he is.

It’s a gamer word. I think it originated as a misspelled word in the game Warcraft. It has been around a long time.

It was supposed to say owned.
