WAUSAU, Wis. A central Wisconsin man accused of killing his 11-year-old daughter by praying instead of seeking medical care was found guilty Saturday of second-degree reckless homicide.
Dale Neumann, 47, was convicted in the March 23, 2008, death of his daughter, Madeline, from undiagnosed diabetes. Prosecutors contended he should have rushed the girl to a hospital because she couldn't walk, talk, eat or drink. Instead, Madeline died on the floor of the family's rural Weston home as people surrounded her and prayed. Someone called 911 when she stopped breathing.

Neumann, who once studied to be a Pentecostal minister, testified Thursday that he believed God would heal his daughter and he never expected her to die. God promises in the Bible to heal, he said.
"If I go to the doctor, I am putting the doctor before God," Neumann testified. "I am not believing what he said he would do."

You are an island of sanity in a thread gone mad. :)
In the Bible, there is the story of Jalpeth's daughter, which is exactly that sort of case.
Watching her suffer and die over weeks as this "father" did, to prove his loyalty and religious beliefs (per the story) is wrong.
here is no room for academics or shades of grey there.
Sorry, I mean Jephthah.
>>here is no room for academics or shades of grey there.<<
I agree with that. There is, however, a great deal of room for it here.
I would have a VERY hard time watching her get worse and worse and not do anything. Some would say that is common sense. Others would say it is a lack of faith. There were times when Israel gave up on God as things looked hopeless, much to their loss. It really is possible that such things were actually on the father’s mind. But I honestly don’t know.
I have yet to see a diabetic, type one or type two, suddenly, out of the clear blue, keel over comatose on the floor, with no prior inkling or clinical signs of their blood sugar being in the stratosphere, and their energy being zilch, while they drink like a fish and pee like a racehorse, until they become acidotic, dehydrated and unconscious, on the living room floor, while both parents look on, as well as friends and neighbors. It may not have been years, but it wasn’t, “suddnely, we noticed that she didn’t look so good.”
Yeah, about that “line” I was talking about.
Gee, that’s nice. Nothing like personal attacks when you don’t agree with him. Cheez.
Next the liberals will try to remove prayer from people’s homes because it’s a deadly weapon. Well, against the devil it IS.
If I’d been in that situation, I would have called an ambulance and then prayed over her, but that wouldn’t mean faith. Logic perhaps.
I’m sorry Mary. But if a nut is a nut I’m going to call it that. I’m not going to call a nut a pineapple.
I pray that as well. Christians will have to trust in God for healing. I’m not taking any computer chip into my body (which at some time will be required) just so I can have health care. If I die, I’m not afraid because I’ll be with HIM.
I believe that too.
Don’t be so sure. This is going to be LAW and we won’t have much to do about changing it. This is going through. We can’t stop it. God help us all, and buy your supplements in bulk while you can.
Then ask yourself if a diabetic would go from normal to that condition in 48 hours without any inkling of abnormalcy prior to that time.
The jury did not believe it, and they are not even medical personal.
God didn’t command Jephthah to do that. He did it on his own.
I'll bet there are a lot of old Y2K nuts from FR...
I'll bet there are a lot of old FEMA is taking over nuts from FR who would sell you their packages of dehydrated beans.
