This picture truly is worth at least a thousand words.
I am stunned that the official White House Blog published this picture and that it is in the public domain. The body language is most revealing.
Sergeant Crowley, the sole class act in this trio, helps the handicapped Professor Gates down the stairs, while Barack Obama, heedless of the infirmities of his friend and fellow victim of self-defined racial profiling, strides ahead on his own. So who is compassionate? And who is so self-involved and arrogant that he is oblivious?
In my own dealings with the wealthy and powerful, I have always found that the way to quickly capture the moral essence of a person is to watch how they treat those who are less powerful. Do they understand that the others are also human beings with feelings? Especially when they think nobody is looking.
I think this photo constitutes another major Obama blunder.
As some AT commentators point out, this picture becomes a metaphor for ObamaCare. The elderly are left in the back, with only the kindness of the Crowleys of the world, the stand up guys, to depend on. The government has other priorities.

Friggin’ unbelievable....But, I’ve seen him do the same thing with Michelle....She was carrying a bowl or something and he was well ahead of her....just like this!!
You never would have seen Reagan or either Bush in shirt sleeves, ignoring his invited guest in a situation like this. Obama doesn’t respect the office, he doesn’t respect the country, its people, its laws or history.
So what does he respect? I guess nothing. He who respects nothing deserves no respect.
Is “obama” really Kenyan for “utter narcissist”?
How many ways can “Obama is a jerk” be said?
Great post, great picture.
Very telling.
...first one to the pizza box takes three slices
I think the most telling thing about this picture is that the WH is apparently full of people just like Obama, who don’t have a clue that there is anything at all out of place in this photo that they released.
It’s the so-called little things that define character in a person and determine how they will respond to the larger issues.
I would help the Sgt till my dying day.
I will spit on Gates until my final breath.
Thing is, I don’t know if Gates is even man enough to agree on a superficial “this was unfortunate” with Crowley. It was like Obama pushed a cat and a dog together.
Blacks are, sadly, not the only people blowing this out of proportion. I saw a thread earlier today by some white cop in New York who sounded the refrain that nothing should ever be done that might “make the police hesitate” and that “if the law was ever trampled on for racial reasons this is it.” Well, I do believe the Philly trouble with the Black Panthers at the polling places was worse — this was right on New York’s back door, they can’t have missed it. And perhaps new procedures can be developed to clarify to a confused citizen why he might be asked to show ID in the house where he lives, like “we see a break-in here, we don’t know everyone by sight, we want to be sure you belong.” (Crowley would not need to apologize for the old procedure because that’s not under his control.)
That’s sad isn’t it?
Have you been on twitter yet? Great place - lots of politics info and stuff.
obami is human garbage.
That's exactly the way the tools who posted the pic think; they see nothing at all wrong here, they see the natural order of things. Of course we all agree and wish it were us in the photo, bathing ourselves in the glorious healing light of the immaculate one.
BTTT!
"Protect and Serve" vs. "Be Protected and Be Served"
Gates had said he could “see” the narrative going through Crowley’s head when he was asking him to step out of the house and show his ID. And, of course, that narrative was black man = thief, burglar, criminal.
I now see the REAL narrative was not in Crowley’s head but in Gates, which was “evil white boy cop harrasing me, a Harvard Professor! I’ll show HIM!”
The narrative in Crowley’s head was probably “Ok, this old guy probably does live here, but let’s follow procedure so we can ensure everything’s safe and I can get going elsewhere.”
And the narrative in Obama’s head? “Hey, I don’t have any facts as to what actually happened, but let me show the World I’m going to stand up for MY people! (who ought to be all of us Americans, but in that one revealing moment we now know is only a subset of us.)”
Your analogy to the aged Americans that will be left to die as quickly as possible under obamacare sent chills down my spine.
I have always said the Rats are the anti-human party.
I’m ok the hell with you. Good cop lousy President.
Yes, the other spin is that Zero had Crowley so beaten that he bettah help old man Gates.
Look through the lens of Obamabot.
I agree with most how Crowley was the better man, but his remarks afterward were too forgiving. IMO
I didn’t like that it was the POTUS and one of his BLT fellows/friend and just Crowley. Biden never counts, and didn’t crash the party, he was there for balance.
says it all.
