Third Horseman Appears!
Soylent Green Alert!
by
Paul L. Williams, Ph.D.
"We are a nation built on the strength of individual initiative. But there are certain things that we can't do on our own. There are certain things that only a government can do. And one of those things is ensuring that the foods we eat are safe and don't cause us harm."
America enjoys the worlds safest, highest quality, most abundant, diverse and affordable food supply.
This situation is about to change with the Food Safety Enhancement Act (H.R. 2749) which was scheduled for consideration this week under suspension of the standard rules governing congressional legislation.
The Ranking Member of the House Agricultural Committee urged his colleagues not to rush The Food Safety Enhancement Act (H.R. 2749) through Congress. The move to suspend the rules was defeated by two votes.
The suspension would mean limited debate of 20 minutes and no opportunity to offer amendments. Congressman Frank Lucas (R-Oklahoma) is ringing an alarm. He says the proposed legislation is the result of a flawed and incomplete process that would lead to huge regulatory burdens that will force the majority of Americas farmers and ranchers out of business without contributing much, if anything, to the goal of safer food.
Though the rules have not been suspended, the legislation is still expected to meet with House approval.
Few on Capitol Hill are heeding Congressman Lucass warning.
As proposed by Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Los Angeles, H. R. 2749 will grant the Food and Drug Administration the power to regulate all farms and farm produce

It would be ironic if government safety regulations on food growers and ranchers forces them out of business, leading to more imports from countries where food safety cannot be ensured or even monitored.
Would you like a dash of DDT with your salad senor?
Some chick was on tv recently, saying we don’t always eat all the fruits and vegetables and grains we are SUPPOSED to eat. She has no clue. My husband is diabetic and can only have 20 gr of carb per DAY, that limits what he can eat. He can have almost no fruits or fruit juices too high in carbs. He can have very limited vegetables and NO GRAINS. He is thin as a rail. He went to a specialist, a DOCTOR in Kansas City who designed a diet just for him. People who make generalizations have NO CLUE. And Obama thinks he should tell us what to eat, and I noticed he drinks BEER, eats burgers and fries, eats donuts, eats ice cream and SMOKES! We don’t do any of those unhealthy things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like Chinese imported foods with melamine in them????
One of the major problems I see in California is no rain falls on the crops for much of the year and water shortages have led to drip irrigation. In the midwest plants are regularly washed by rainfall, but not so in California. I just wonder if that doesn’t allow a lot more contamination.
Melamine gives food that fresh “crunch” that all the family loves.
Nanny government. Why do I despise it? There’s probably not one government person in a thousand who has ever grown anything anywhere at any time except some hair on a mole on his, her, or its (if you know what I mean’s) nose. Their decisions are not made objectively, but rather on the basis of which politician has the greater clout at a particular moment. Glad I’m old. This country is either out of control or under the control of a bunch of perverted morons, not to put too fine a point on it!

Yo may be correct. It seems so obvious really...California’s produce is rarely washed before harvest.
Another gift from Waxman...
Their rules are for all people to be placed in large boxes so that they cannot travel or go anywhere. And the purchase of food from their Communist and Nazi brothers in the dictatorships to the south and west is their other goal.
Just ignore the law. There’s gonna be a lot of that going on the future.
And there’ll be firepower to back it up.
Oh, and Obamaloon idiots - don’t count on your military to help you.
Oops, I meant “our military - not their military” ‘cuz it most certainly won’t side with the loons that 1) removed absentee votes from overseas soldiers , 2) will destroy the military retirement and health benefits, and 3) doesn’t have two people in the whole administration that could pass the entrance criteria for a security clearance.

Because people are too lazy or stupid to wash and cook their food before they eat it and want the Government to DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!
...giving the power mad ruling elite the excuse they need to take even more control over the people.
Precisely. Although at issue here is not that food production in our country has become too costly for natural reasons, but because government regulation has added to the overhead cost of being in food production. Up to a point that overhead can be offset by efficiencies in food production technology.
Small farmers were regulated out of the main food market decades ago. New regulations threaten to do the same to large corporate farms. Eventually, and I think this is the overall purpose of the Socialist agenda, the government will step in and say that government must solve this problem and they will take over “farming”.
We’ve seen how the Socialists regulated the banking industry into a credit crisis. The crisis was created by banking regulations put in place in the late 1990s by Clinton and a Democrat Congress, forcing banks to make loans their own formulas said were problematic. The banks, in an effort to offset the problematic loans on their books created new financial instruments using the sub-prime mortgages as collateral and sold these off for cash. The government, complicit in this, especially Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, purchased these financial instruments in order to inject liquidity into those banks that could not be guaranteed by the bad loans alone.
In the end the government created through its regulations a situation that they now blame on greedy bankers and Wall Street. And yes, there were lots of greedy bankers out there making the best of a bad situation. It isn’t as if they could stop without the Feds coming down on them and forcing them to continue, so they continued and did as our Public Masters insisted they do.
Bush went to Congress maybe four times to get them to change these regulations, and Congress denied his request. The press went after Bush because the changes he proposed would’ve reduced the sub-prime mortgage lending, thus depriving many minorities of a chance to own a home. They called him a racist among other dirty names. Bush knew this was coming and because it was a domestic issue, the Congress held the power to enact the change that was necessary, and the Republican Congress again failed to step up to the plate. And when the Democrats took over Congress, well they told Bush he was a lame duck and a racist and proceeded to wreck any and all of his policies that they could, including traveling abroad and interfering in foreign policy, which is not a Congressional power.
Today they’ve gone ahead with bank takeovers, manufactory take overs, and they’ve appointed a position in the Executive branch to review corporate executive pay, as if that would help solve any of the problems. They’ve sold our nation a bill of goods and an empty crate, and people still think the Dems and Obama walk on water.
It is pathetic.
Does anyone know if this applies to family farms or only to farms that sell to the general public.
(This will be the death of the farmer’s market... forget “locally grown” produce.)
Yup. Frankly I am surprised that home gardens are not included.
