One of the major problems I see in California is no rain falls on the crops for much of the year and water shortages have led to drip irrigation. In the midwest plants are regularly washed by rainfall, but not so in California. I just wonder if that doesn’t allow a lot more contamination.

Yo may be correct. It seems so obvious really...California’s produce is rarely washed before harvest.

There is a large man-made water shortage in California, on behalf of some “endangered” fish, IIRC.
