HONOLULU -- State officials again are confirming that President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii.
Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said Monday she has seen the original birth records that verify Obama was born in Hawaii, and is a "natural-born American citizen."
Fukino made the announcement in hopes of ending any lingering rumors about Obama's citizenship. She issued a similar press release Oct. 31.

I think he should reveal his birth cert not a copy and if he can’t reveal it he should have a good explanation. Leaving this up in the air really doesn’t make sense from a political perspective unless there is a good reason. Eventually even peeps who dismiss this out of hand begin to start thinking there may be something to this especially as his popularity continues to fall.
You asked — So theyre not making the document public because....?
—
It’s not legal for them to do so...
So that's it? You're just going to accept this person's word that Obama is a natural born citizen of the US? Geeez, you're easy.
Forget that ..... SHOW US THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE.
You should put your race as “Earthling” and your occupation is the Queen of England. LOL
And for the next trick, Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino will testify to the reality of the Tooth Fairy.
You asked — We still havent seen it. Why not?
—
That’s because there is no legal requirement for any candidate to produce and show his birth certificate. And there’s certainly not a legal requirement for the President to produce and show his birth certificate...
You asked — Since they claimed all along not to be able to reveal any information regarding Obamas birth, what changed?
—
Only one thing can do that — permission from Obama...
No mention of a Birth Certificate. It's lawyerese, and I don't buy it for one second.
her october statement that DID mention the "Birth Certificate" only said they had it on file.
BTW, your favorite dingbat, Okubo, came out today and stated that the DO NOT DESTROY the paper records.
Didn’t they just say last week the records were discarded in 01. Can’t they get the story straight?
Over? Surely, you jest. This statement by the Hawaiian health director isn't proof of anything. Only the release of Obama's long form birth certificate can end this.
Cool. We can all get copies of it.
I did not read all the replies. Has someone found this on the Hawaii State Department of Health website or has someone found the quote from Dr. Fukino.
Fukino made the announcement
Show me the quote and..
I want to see a Hawaiian source.
My google news search, Fukino hawaii, did not get any Hawaiian sources (that I recognized, lots of dailycuss and the like however).
Is this a planted PR story?
If you can get that permission... :-)
State law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest.
So simple—document dump of the Certificate of Live Borth (that would be the long form for those of you who think this is a waste of time); and document dump from all the other sealed institutions such as his education records. Because he won’t do it, controversy continues.
Hold on. Why this, why today? Why not three months ago?
This is too convenient.
The Department is being inundated with requests.
I did a cursory search of the home page and the latest news releases.
She's no such thing. She's a public servant who is charged with the keeping of public records.
She's not a Justice of the US Supreme Court. She's no more qualified to state that "Obama is a natural born citizen", than a state DMV worker is.
Where is that little detail documented ?
Not disagreeing or pushing if you don’t have a source no big deal. But that is an interesting aspect as it would explain teh whole thing.
I missed the part about the fire. Do you have a link?
The reports I saw implied the documents were deliberately discarded (perhaps after being scanned, however?).
However, according to World Net Daily:
"I am not aware of any birth certificate records that have been destroyed by the department," Janice Okubo, public information officer for the Hawaii DOH, told WND. "When the department went electronic in 2001, vital records, whether in paper form or any other form, [were] maintained. We don't destroy records."Okubo affirmed that beginning in 2001, all vital records, including birth records, moved to electronic formats.
"Any records that we had in paper or any other form before 2001 are still in file within the department," she insisted. "We have not destroyed any vital statistics records that we have."
