BRISTOL, Fla. -- Authorities said a burglar with a fake gun was shot and killed by a Panhandle homeowner with a real gun.
The Liberty County Sheriff's Office reports that Octavious Barnes, 24, broke into the home of Bradley Harvil, 82, home and tried to steal about $1,100 in cash Sunday night. Authorities said Barnes was waiving around a toy pistol, colored black with a marker to look real, and assaulted Harvil.
The homeowner was able to get to his real .357 magnum and shot Barnes in the chest and in the eye.
Authorities later concluded that three women had helped Barnes plan the burglary. Deputies have charged Jessica Nicole Long, 19, Heather Marie Ammons, 22, and Mandy Allen, 43, with felony home invasion and second-degree murder.
I would wager that the three “women” were hired caregivers or other type of help that had cased the home.
At first, the gentler side of me thought “Well the guy had a real gun, you could have just held the guy for the cops.” Then I saw the perp was 24 and the victim was 82. Ventilate the bastard.
Darwin Award nominee??
Uh huh, uh huh. A .357 does seem to level the playing field doesn't it?
Hopefully this case gets wide publicity. The lesson, criminal element, is do not go breaking and entering.
He colored the orange tip of the toy gun to make it look real? So clearly he had the intent of making people believe it was real.
What’s the story with the three girls who helped him plan this? They knew that this guy had a stash of cash in his house? And they told their buddy Octavious? And he thought, here’s an easy payday?
Amen. I should be so good at 82!
Heart/head double tap? We have a winner!
Just hope some POS prosecutor doesn’t use this as evidence that the homeowner was a pro and therefor could have used less lethal force.
Yes, especially a .357 against a .000!
Wow. He double tapped him. Nicely done.
Since the accomplices were charged with murder, I doubt the homeowner will be charged.
I wonder if this Barnes guy was a bit on the “slow” side, and the three women put him up to it with a promise of “favors.”
My question?
Were the women that were involved part of an elder care operation? Visiting nurses or such? Cleaning staff?
Need to know more.
THAT had to hurt!
True, good point.
“The homeowner was able to get to his real .357 magnum and shot Barnes in the chest and in the eye.”
Never bring a knife to a gun fight. The .357 Magnum is the ultimate small handheld instrument of death for home intruders.
That's funny.
A .357 in the eye...shot and killed...I’d imagine.
